Video converters help

Okay, I'm pretty new to this video editing game, but eventually I want to make AMVs. I'm hearing all this stuff about converters, and it's confusing me. What exactly are converters and what do they do?

converters??? errrr.... well, what I think you are talking about are programs that change the format of the video file you are editing. go to animemusicvideos.org, and read the guides there. they can be kind of confusing for a newbie so if you have any questions at all just post it on their forums or/and over here and you'll get all the help you need.
