It has been a long time i've posted something here. And i saw some threads about imageready. So here's a nice tutorial if you are new with Gif animation.
We gonna be making this: What do you need? - Virtualdub http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/v...3.zip?download - Imageready this is included with Photoshop It's not free so you have to download it somewhere, try bittorrent or kazaa or something. I'm sure you'll find it. What else do i need? - A avi, or movie to load in Virtualdub, for example Naruto_100RAW.avi etc.... - Make a folder on your desktop and call it "Test" I'm gonna keep it very simple, so you don't have to use much of your brain Ok let's go!! ► We need virtualdub to make a movie into a sequence of images, which we can put together in Imageready to create those Gif animations. So Extract Virtualdub to your computer and start the virtualdub.exe ![]() *GO TO File open Video (or CONTROL + O) Now the movie loads in 2 screens, we don't really need to pay attention to it. Just make sure you resize them so that you can edit the time line. Go to the desired timeframe and press BEGIN (the begin of your image sequence). After that, keep clicking on 1 FRAME FORWARD until you think the action has stopped. After that click END (the end of your image sequence) ![]() Last edited by Aoi; 01-14-2005 at 11:05 PM. |

Be careful not to make a selection bigger than 300 frames because that will work very slow with editing.
Only thing we have to do now is to save the sequence. *GO TO File save Image Sequence You will save the images to your "Test" folder (Or any folder you like the images to be in) on your desktop *.tga is recommend it will keep the images smallest. ![]() Last edited by Aoi; 01-14-2005 at 11:51 PM. |

And after you press ok you'll see this.
And if you look in your "test" folder, you will see the images from 0000001.tga to 0000200.tga Or something like that. Now start Imageready and go to file import folder as frames ANd see this ![]() Last edited by Aoi; 01-14-2005 at 11:07 PM. |

Go (above in the toolbar) to image > imagesize and reduce it to 100 x 75 (or use your own settings)
Now the whole sequence has been reduced to 100 x 75 Just look to this image, you will understand where all the images are coming from. Upperleft bar is the preview window, the bar below is the timeframe, the bar on the right is the layer frame. We will only use the timeframe in this tutorial. WARNING: You can only edit the image if you set the preview window to Original, and NOT to Optimized ![]() Last edited by Aoi; 01-14-2005 at 11:58 PM. |

If you click optimized you'll see some usefull data
That's pretty big for a gif animation so we'll have to reduced that. Removing frames is the simplest way to reduce size. (first go back to original preview mode) Select a frame, and hold shift till the last frame you want to delete. And press the recycle bin. And remove the frames ![]() Last edited by Aoi; 01-15-2005 at 12:00 AM. |

Now edit the refreshrate of the images, i used 0.03 seconds. (delay time)
After that *GO TO File > save optimized as MyAnimation.gif ![]() Last edited by Aoi; 01-15-2005 at 12:02 AM. |

And enjoy your own gif animation!!!
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Internet Explorer users expierence a slower refreshrate than FIREFOX users. So keep in mind that u do not want your refreshrate to get lower than 0.04 seconds. As example about how different browsers perform: ![]() If you have questions about the gif size, or dimensions. You can ask them here, for the comfort of this tutorial i've kept those settings away. But you might wanna take a look in CANVAS size and plugin settings. Succes. Aoi. Last edited by Aoi; 01-15-2005 at 12:03 AM. |

Nice tut, although I save my frames as an avi file instead of export them as images. Both ways are cool

Ow yeah, i had that problem too, a long time ago. It seems the RAW versions of a Naruto episode have some kind of weird codec...
Just download all different codecs, but no hacks.. I downloaded the nimo codec pack and my error dissapeared. If that doesn't work, try google. This may be the solution: http://forum.digital-digest.com/arch...c/37401-1.html |

Do a google search for Divx 3 , even if u have divx 4 or 5, you will still need 3 to playback those codecs on Virtual Dub. Download, install and try to play the file in Dub, it will give you an alert saying something , just bypass that and the movie will play ![]()

Looks great! I've always wonder how people made those animate gifs. I have one important question: Is this Virtualdub program compatitable to MacOX systems?
