Btw does Kishi REALLY hate Sakura? Has he admitted to hating her in interview or anything? Cos I'm seeing the 'Kishi hates Sakura' meme everywhere. I wish I didn't like the character, I'm considering asking for a section ban from the HoU because it's turned into the We Hate Sakura forum.

I asked the modling there to section ban me, cos at this rate I'm going to lose my temper and end up getting banned. I'm just sick of all the anti-Sakura threads disguised as innocent questions. Some of the bashing is just plain reaching. It amazes me just how much hate people have for a woman who doesn't exist. Kishi isn't helping by taking a huge dump on her development. It's as though the Sasori arc never happened.
And I know I shouldn't be all srs bznss about the thread about Sakura being an abuser, but it makes me angry cos it trivialises what abuse really is. The idea that Sakura is an abuser and that Naruto is a victim is laughable. I work for a criminal defence firm. We deal with domestic violence cases. They are far more serious than an overplayed tsundere trope (and on a personal note, my stepsister's boyfriend used to beat her up, and I have friends who were in abusive relationships, so it's a touchy issue for me), and Naruto isn't showing any of the signs of a typical abuse victim.
(Note to self: STOP BEING SO FUCKING ANALYTICAL, GIRL.)
Btw I wish Naoko Takeuchi was doing some of the art for the databook. It would be hilarious to see Sakura drawn Sailor Moon-style with mahoosive eyes!

It just seems like she's taken a step back. She's gone from the confident girl who was in the Sasori fight to crying and spending a lot of time beating herself up because she's causing Naruto pain. And then there was the confession, which I don't want to go into as pairing talk is banned here, but the whole thing just depressed me. At least she made the decision recently to go off and talk to Sasuke herself (I don't think she's planning to kill him).

Yeah, I agree. I rarely go into the HoU, but every time I do there's a ton of Sakura bashing. :/

I hope Kishi gives her something like the Sasori fight again.

By my estimation, her first real bout with despair comes about when she's confronted with the reality of Sasuke's misdeeds and forced to reevaluate the merits of her quest. I'd like to think this warrants deep introspection and, yes, tears.

Re: the confession,

Is it her proposition (i.e, giving up on Sasuke) that's troubling you? The fact that parts of it are wrapped in romantic sentiment for Naruto? Something else?

Oh, and how do you feel it stacks against Sakura and Naruto's confrontations with Sasuke around his defection from Konoha?


Anyway, Episode 135 is really good. Now I want other segments of part 1 redone, especially Sakura's bit of the preliminary portion of the Chunin exams. I've gone back and forth on this fight, and now I've decided it's sour because, baring the part in which they exchange their final blows, Studio Pierrot does it zero justice, and its horribleness overpowers my perception of the fight as it happens in the story.
