Ok my intention here is to teach a particular grammar target using examples from Naruto.

This class is aimed at any level fom beginners to roughly 3kyu.

lesson 2
サスケ君たらシャイなんだから
Sasuke-kun tara SHY nandakara
Sasuke's such a shy boy!

Like the English language the Japanese language is full of foreign words. Learning many of these foreign words (English) can increase your Japanese vocabulary with very little effort. Though the pronounciation is often different many words used in naruto are from English. For example "shai" is "Shy" in English and has pretty much the same meaning. Other examples are.

rajio - Radio
terebi - Televi(sion)
san kyu -thank you
shinpuru -simple
naisu -nice

It's important for us now to look at the pronunciation guide for Japanese. Japanese is a relatively simple language to pronounce. The 5 vowels are all present in English
A -as in epple
I -as in see
U - as in true
E - as in met
O - as in go (but with a fixed open mouth)

pp- Any double letter should be pronounced with a slight pause as in "bookcase"

look at the above words and try saying them with this in mind:
eg. rA -jI -O (rah-gee-oh) =radio

Here are some words from naruto that are taken from English, have a guess at their meaning.

1.Tesuto
2.torappu
3.haaremu
4. getto
5. faasuto kissu

* this may seem very hard but try to remember that Japanese words never end in a consonent. This means an English word like "pet" would beome "petto". Notice that the characters names never end in consonents (except N) nA-rU-tO, sAsUkE, kAkAshI..etc.

Now try these. Saying them quickly out loud will help you to work them out. "r" can be either R or L try it both ways.:)

1. Ba-ra-n-su
2. cha-a-mi-n-gu
3. re-be-ru
4. bu-u-bi-i-to-ra-ppu
5. sa-ba-i-bu-ru

Some more hints to help you are these.
There is no V in Japanese so all Vs become Bs
There is no TH in Japanese so all THs become either za or di
there is no si(see) in Japanese so all SIs become "shi"
there is no c in Jaspanese so all Cs become K (except for chi)

so "this simple van" would be "disu shinpuru bannu"
"the secret pet" would be "za shikuretto petto"

1.toreiningu
2. imeeji
3. sensu
4.

Don't forget to explain long marks, and small tsu
like in your example : shikuretto is really shi-kuretto ;)

These can make words sound differently, leading to a different word all together when said.

It makes a big difference when saying stuff like
Picchi = pitch vs.
Pi-chi = peach
