Are there any writers on here, people that write original work or fan fiction. I was just wondering because I really enjoy writing and I didn't seen any threads about it much. I'm not really the fan fic type, although I was going to do an original character fic with made up Naruto characters. But I'd just like to hear from other writers and ask what kind of stuff they write! Thanks.

The fanfiction section of konoha(not naruto) fanworks is generally where all the writers gather, you could open this thread there, or ask a mod to move it.

Now that's out of the way, I myself am a lover for fantasy type stuff, there's some up at my site, but the stuff that's up for now is only in Dutch because I feel more comfortable writing in my native language, and translating is a bit hard for me...

Sorry, on my home forum the artist writers sections are together, I guess I'll ask a mod to move it.

I don't really post my writing on my deviant art since I never thought it would get much attention on the account that it is so long and drawn out. And it makes it hard to edit when it is like that because I think you have to use html.

Not only that, I myself have a hard time reading stuff on DA for some reason. It's not pleasant on the eye to me...

Well the fonts there are small, and many times when people post stuff writing wise I notice that they do not really format it. I used to go to fanfiction.net, but this was years ago before that place go so horible that you have to wade through miles of terrible stuff to get something decent.

I kinda fancy Da,. I do agree tho, getting accustomed to that demonic greenish paste-like bg took a while to get used to. But I was getting tired of having to save pieces to my Da from my favs artis/phtographers. So I decided to make one to ease my stalking of them. Plus it's realkly awesome, and the mroe you add to your gallery, the more peopel you'll get to know. And knowign people is awefully rad =]

I know how you feel, I myself kind of stopped browsing through FF.net, because most decent authors post update-notices on live-journal communities anyway.

Then again I can always visit FF.net if I wanted to snark a mary sue for the SONPS or GAFF...

I myself only use it for pictures and artwork, because then I have a reliable server where my drawings are save from being eaten by site-protocols and where people can see and comment on them comfortably.

I never really look at it anymore because back before they started the big editing thing, there was so much slash flying around that didn't even make sense. Vivi and Eiko fan fics that had less than appropriate overtones, I mean she was nine for crying out loud.

I think that it really is impossible to have a large writing community that is successful and popular without it getting bad. FF.net was cool like six years ago, it was semi popular, there was enough on there about every fandom you could imagine. Then there was an explosion of populairty of fan fiction, ff.net was on the news, Harry Potter camer around, people stopped flocking to their little inner circles of ff and started to flock to larger sites like ff.net.

Suddenly there's so many users you can't breathe and they have to break the site in half; one for original work and the other for ff. Then we have writers like JK and Anne Rice complaining that people are butchering their characters, so you can't write about it anymore because they don't want the site getting sued.

Now ff.net has soooo many rules in place, I would take back the slash just to have some freedom.

Huh? Anne rice has forbidden FF to allow kids to write fanfiction based on her work, I know that, but JK rowling never claimed so seriously that people butcher their characters, actually her statement is that she allows it, as long as that you keep the adult-oriented stuff away from the kids.

Now ff.net has soooo many rules in place, I would take back the slash just to have some freedom. Argh, yes, I wanted to use three single asteriskes as scene break, as I had seen before in many books, but the site wouldn't allow me, so I had to use those ugly ruler things.

But what do you mean with the part I underlined?

I'm currently on my way of minoring in Literature, and I write a lot of fiction, however it's not complete, as it's one big story. I do fantasy and science fiction, because it's a great way to think out of the box, although I like to keep many motif's about today's life and today's problems, like the threat of the seemingly endless impending destruction from nuclear arms. I also have a lot of the "big explosions and total destruction" that the japanese style has had since the atom bomb was dropped there.

The main character of my story is Szilard Faraday, (pronpunced Sa-lard Fair-a-day) and if you do some research on those names, they are the names of the original inventors of the atom bomb's chain reaction theory. The world it's set in is a post apocalyptic world that has been rebuilt by the Xavörs, a mysterious omniscient race, and there are only 3 human cities, while the mysterious Xavörs control everything from the background. I love hidden symbolism, as it's set in the future so there are a lot of symbolic reference's to today's society and ideals.
It's basically a look at our flaws, and it's going to be great when it's finished. (Years away.)

What I mean is that they don't allow adult oriented stories anymore, I would rather them allow that and everything than impose silly rules right and left.

True, but FF.net has had soo much wank in the past, that I think that Xing(the owner) can't really see it anymore...

I honestly cant wait to take a bit off that mate. Do check out 20th Century Boy, it will surely blow you away (it's a manga, but trust me, it's no shonen-go-berserk-24/7-and-save-the-big-breasted-lady kinda manga)

I love manga, even the stupid ones like Tenchi Muyo. I haven't heard of 20th Century Boy, but it sounds interesting, and I've been looking for new manga to read. If I had to compare my story to anything, it would definitely be Neon Genesis Evangelion, except I'm not going to focus on religious symbology in the amazing way Eva did. But as for the human issues, Szilard is a "regular" guy so far, but he has a destiny that he is supposed to follow. Not like a Jesus parallel like Neo in the Matriz or something, I think that's kind of tired. I already have the ending plotted out, it's a shocker, but I think it's an original idea. A spoiler is that a lot of humans will die. Sound uninspired? It's why they die, and how.

poo @ you! I hate it when I hear about a good book and lack access to reading it. It's like hearing about a great gig coming to to town and they're out of tickets. Do please keep updated on it's progress, and Im extremely intruged thus far.

20th CB (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=1507210&postcount=141) is so up your alley then (along with Monster by the same author; Urasawa). IT's probabily the best manga of all time (well okay, Im a fanboy, but it's seriously untouchable. Kinda like Coltrane - Interstellar Space).

I'm a writer, I'm currently writing a novel, I'll post the chapters on dA, or I can send them to you if you care to give 'em a read. My devaccount is full of drawings of the protagonists in my novel, it's http://koboshimaru.deviantart.com

I am actually writing a series right now, and it's going pretty well. I think that this is like my sixth rewrite of this same story, which I know must sound kind of sad. But I think that this might be the last or the second to last just judging on the characterization.

I love to remake characters and reinvent them. Its like I had a character that was evil, then he was good, but the kind of good that all of the other good ones hate, and now he's pretty much just good. Funny how things change from rewrite to rewrite.

My story is about a group of FBI agents, what's yours?

It's just.. >_> My friend couldn't bear me anymore because I kept saying "Omg, they haven't update the fucking fanfics!" so she told me I had to go try and write myself one .. And I did XD it's kinda funny to do I have to say.

I write occasionally from time to time, whenever I am in a writing mood. I usually write stories similar to books or movies I have watched/read, it helps plan out my work. My first hardcore writing was a Kung Fu writing I wrote in seventh grade. :laugh

Lately, I have written works with an Ernest Hemingway style to it, since I love his works but the issue is that its very hard to write like him.

As you can see, there are a few of us floating around, though the writing forums have their ups and downs.

As yet, I have never written a fanfic, but have written a good deal of original fiction, a lot of the early stuff incomplete and unlikely to ever see the light of day, but I have written a few short stories. My only complete, full-length book is the Book of Hondo, which I have been posting in this forum, and which you are welcome to read. The whole idea started a few years ago when my friends started their own religion, and joined on the condition of writing their sacred text, but the Book quickly evolved into an epic tale about nothing, filled with a weird blend of original characters laced with parodies of all manner of books, TV shows, movies, famous people, etc, so parts of it do have something in common with fanfics. Most people who've read it tell me it's the funniest thing they've read in a long time.

Feel free to post anything cardboard tube knight, short stories, excerpts, what have you, and we will read it.

I'm a writer, though I never post any of my work except for maybe a few odd poems here and there. I read fanfics, but I don't write them. I'm more into original works. I used to have a real issue of actually finishing my stories, but just a month ago I wrote a pretty long one (which I still have no title too, lol), and I'm working on another right now. This thread reminds me that I still have to finish the fourth chapter. xD;

@Hokage Naruto--

Ernest Hemingway was indeed an amazing writer, and I know that, from an English project, interpreting his style of writing and trying to duplicate it is very difficult. Good luck on your efforts, though.
