Anyways I just watched episodes 3 and 4 and wow this anime filler story arc is really good in my opinion. It's getting really creepy. As for episode 5 I'll wait till the sub comes out.

starting episode 6 is Minagoroshi-hen so we'll be seeing lots of death.

Oishi said about finding Rena's hat in the mountains during his "talk" with Satoko. Even Satoko had this "vision" of Rena running in the mountains and being chased by the men in gray.

IMO, Rena could have found something about the "true cause" of the so-called "disaster" and she was needed to be silenced by the men in gray.

I'm more of a lurker on animesuki, but I do post some of my opinions/theories of each episode on the Higurashi forum. And there's also the TIPS/other supplimentary info/material on the series.

All I can say after watching this.... What. The. Bloody. Hell. I'm friggin' lost with words here. So much trauma in one go. Those bastardized MIG and that nurse. I feel so bad for Satoko. Seeing her best friend's dead body, running away and clinging on the bottom of the bridge. It looked like she drowned but she survived only to be in very unstable conditions. I don't get why Ooishi had to do all that though. Well at least I'm glad it wasn't because of that that killed her. What the hell is the deal with those MIG + nurse?

Something doesn't add up though. Was Rena really there? There wasn't a scream when we first saw Satoko running for her life. How did Rena even escape the massacre? Well I do think she is clearly dead though from the blood. If this massacre was at midnight did those MIG bring them all to the school or something? It's not like there was a late PTA meeting, right Leon? lol

Ugh, can't believe I had to sit through Rika's death again. And I thought they were hinting it could've been prevented but I was dead wrong. Ah, one last thing. Hanyuu didn't appear nor did I notice a faint outline. Makes you think... what and ending too. Just when Ooishi was gonna find out the truth.

Very big kudos to Studio DEEN for this. This is a mighty solid episode. A+
And next week, the moment we've been waiting for. Minagoroshi-hen. I dunno, but from the looks of it, it will be like what we've seen now, only we will find out approximately all the answers to the questions we've asked for a long while. I do hope this will be as good as this episode, hell I'll be damn amazed if it turns out way better. Better than the Great Hinamizawa Disaster episode? Quoth Ooishi, "You're fucking kidding me!"

Well, I also disagree that Yakusamashi-hen = filler arc. We all know that it's Ryukishi07's way of filling holes the first season left open.

Well, for all we know, the MIG are the culprits of the crimes in Hinamizawa, but that nurse, I don't know if she's greatly involved. For all we know, she could also detest the Houjou family, and knowing that a member of that said family is the sole survivor of the disaster...

I thought that the massacre happened during the day. I thought that was the case in Tatarigoroshi-hen. Last time, Keiichi found Rika dead during the day, but in this arc, Satoko got to Rika, freshly disemboweled...

I was hoping they'd incorporate more TIPS and things that only appeared in the game, but yeah. Wow.

Another strange part is why wasn't Rika or Satoko taken to the school as well. They didn't need to cut Rika alive.

On why Rika and Satoko were not brought to school: Considering the scenario that "some of the MIG disguised themselves as soldiers and led villagers to the school because of the supposed gas leak and killed them there", this would explain why Satoko and Rika were not included. Not to forget that this could explain why the victims were wearing their casual clothing rather than their nighties AND why Oryou and Kimiyoshi were among the dead.

On why Rika had to be cut alive: The MIG targetted Rika to begin with. I'm not sure, but I remember that Rika was considered by the villagers as a reincarnation of Oyashiro-sama. And the MIG had to perform the "watanagashi" ("wata" = intestines) on Rika so that they could tie-in her death with the "disaster" and the so-called "curse".

Seems like the MIG are a force to reckon with...

I don't know if the pedo doctor had something to do with the whole tragedy or not. I notice that aside from Tommy and Takano, he also dies in most arcs.

If he was involved with the MIG, maybe they had to "dispose" him and make it look like a suicide.

I wasn't sure either, but a few pages back there was something about him having to do something with the disaster... he also has some connection with Takano, since she is a nurse at his clinic... and she is usually found burnt...

I also wondered why Irie gave Keiichi a shot in the first arc? It didn't seem like he actually had a cold. To me, he doesn't seem like he has any bad intetions but... you never know. Giving the shot was suspicious.

I just hope that doesn't come back to bite it in the ass. Tsumihoroboshi's heaven or hell match disappointed many with its poor animation. How good Minagoroshi is will depend on how well DEEN handles it. So far they're doing great with Kai but they could still drop the ball.

Yes, Kai will have 24 episodes, and to think that they'll be spending a lot of episodes for just one arc. I mean, Meakashi-hen has the current record for having the most number of episodes with six. Considering that the events of the last two are pivotal, I wouldn't mind the number of episodes.

I started watching Higurashi because of my initial misconception that it was a harem anime. Having a knack for the genre, I watched it right away. Yes, it does have the girls, but it's definitely not harem, IMO.

I would lie if I said that I don't fap dig the Higurashi girls (especially Rena), but if there was a meganekko in the cast, then maybe I'll be her biggest fan. :P

We could like the series for whatever aspect (the girls, the violence, the disturbing moments and what not), but if you ask me, it's more of the mystery that I'm more interested in. No, I'm serious with that. :amuse

There's also the eyes, you can actually tell what the eye colour is... or maybe that was just me. I only noticed that Keiichi had purple-ish eyes during the scenes where they... "constrict."

I'd say in the third row, Keiichi seems to have lost that weird "cute-ish" feeling... but he's a little more.. defined?

Very nice episode. Brings back memories of Watanagashi-hen/Meakashi-hen.

Rika's character is now revealed and more Hanyuu! It explains how Rika knows so much. And the whole deal with parallel worlds. It's amazing how Keiichi can change the outcome. Not only did he stop the card game but he gave the doll to Mion. Actually, the funny bit is that stopping the card game should've prevented Keiichi from getting that doll but he did it anyway so is fate trying to go with how it was supposed be to be? If so then this might not even turn out good in the end.

Oh yeah, Hanyuu mentioned there was one time it ended up good. Do we know that one?

it's not even horror anymore. And it's definitely not scary. So far it's turned into some kind of dramatic thriller


wth are they thinking with the covert military stuff? are these random filler guys in military outfits supposed to be scary? ugh

a demonic presence following people around, and how you'd hear him walking behind you, but when you turn around he's not there... that was scary

a village with people with demonic blood in them...that was eerie

but something as mundane as a military group?!? they've pretty much exterminated the creepy vibe the show had.

I know there's more going on behind the scenes, maybe the alien stuff will pick up, but the military angle is ruining it for me so far. It's just not scary anymore

Frankly, it was always about the mystery and everything entangled in it. And there are some creepy things in last episode. I mean, the Great Hinamizawa Disaster was pretty much thrilling in my eyes.

I'm not surprised to hear someone say that he/she is disappointed with Kai because it's not scary anymore. IMO, that's what the people behind the GHD (and maybe Ryukishi07) made us think - that the weird incidents in Hinamizawa are caused by supernatural means, hence, it was "scary".

Although by Himatsubushi-hen, it can already be presumed at the most that it's bullshit. Someone is pulling the ropes from behind. And it's not the Sonozakis.

The game is simple. You insert knives into slots on the barrel until the guy jumps out and whoever makes the guy inside jump out you win.

I think Rika is trying to break the rules she mentioned at the beginning so that the "true good end" is reached. That's why she has been telling Keiichi about past incidents in more than one instance, in hopes that the other two rules would be broken.

Remember that Rika had this hopeful face during Tsumihoroboshi-hen when Keiichi was telling them about the events of Onikakushi-hen. And the fact that Keiichi was able to break one of the rules in Tsumihoroboshi-hen made Rika believe that Keiichi can definitely do something to alter fate. And now, in Minagoroshi-hen 1, Keiichi makes Rika hopeful AGAIN.

Having said that, Keiichi's appearance in the village was pivotal to Rika's aim to get out of the endless loop that is June 1983.

Well it's not that gory and horrific as the first season yet(although it's a little early to judge that) but the second season seems to focus more on the story. Well I really liked episode 6 and I'm really looking forward to know what is actually happening now.

Considering the fact that Rika decided to break the silence and give Keichi some tips about what's happening it would be really interesting to know what will happen. Some things didn't happen the same way, but is this going to prevent another tradegy? Since this chapter is called massacre there is a high possibility that it will not be prevented but I guess some thing will go a bit differently.

Oh, and Hanyuu is teh cuteness :P

Things are scary when you don't know what's going on. The first season was all about introducing the mystery. The second is about answering it and resolving the story. I'm glad the solution isn't some supernatural BS like aliens; It would be a huge copout. The tragedy feels much more real and depressing when you know there's a logical explanation behind it. Higurashi never focused on the horror aspect. Even during the first season, the "horror" scenes were few and far in between.

Well a good episode even if the clinic scene was a bit too long or else I miss something very important.
Rika has high hopes now with Keiichi trying to change fate but I feel it will trigger something worse than before.
I think Shion and Rena could be 2 murderers in this Hinamizawa just because K1 gave the doll to Mion. Shion can't stand the sight of Mion happy, Rena could be jealous and thinks K1 belongs to her. Mion could be another potential murderer with the whole "K1, why are you cheating on me?" Well, the title doesn't really help to expect something good. Poor Rika chama, she will surely fail once again.:cry

New season is such a letdown

it's not even horror anymore. And it's definitely not scary. So far it's turned into some kind of dramatic thriller


wth are they thinking with the covert military stuff? are these random filler guys in military outfits supposed to be scary? ugh

a demonic presence following people around, and how you'd hear him walking behind you, but when you turn around he's not there... that was scary

a village with people with demonic blood in them...that was eerie

but something as mundane as a military group?!? they've pretty much exterminated the creepy vibe the show had.

I know there's more going on behind the scenes, maybe the alien stuff will pick up, but the military angle is ruining it for me so far. It's just not scary anymore
I'm sorry, but if you're watching Higurashi just for the blood and violence, you're watching it for the wrong reason. It was always more mystery and drama than horror. DEEN just used all the horror elements in the first season, without spending much time on the other aspects of the series.

Also, you should be able to tell by the OP that the new season is going to head towards more to a drama direction than horror. Although, I have heard that Minagoroshi-hen is one of the bloodiest and most brutal arcs in the series. I mean, there's probably a reason why it's translates to massacre chapter.

Anyway, episode 6 was awesome. I loved every minute of it. KOOL Keiichi = awesome. I've always thought Keiichi was awesome since the first season, but now he's even more so. I can't wait to see how the rest is going to play out.

Oh yeah, I also can't stop listening to the OP. I've probably heard it over 20 times during the past few days. I need the long version soon. ;_; The TV version is too short.

Crunchyroll is worth joining, especially if you are not into torrents. They usally get the subs up pretty quick, which can be helpful if people keep releasing them in formats you can't watch. The Demon Tag episode had a huge portion missing, though.>_<

Could that mean that time could have reset to years before? That would explain how Rika would know that Mr. Akasawa's wife would die and how she predicted all the Watanagashi deaths. Or does she really have foresight?

Judging by what was said when Rika "woke up" at the beginning of this, after her death, she goes to that wierd place with all the fragments going around. At some point, she and Hanyuu reset time, and she ends up in the past. She has been able to go back years at one point, but now their powers are weaking and they can't go back that far anymore. In other words, they are running out of time to save Rika and everyone else.

There are definately a lot of mysteries involving how the time resets work, since we see Rena grown up long after Rika's death. People had said they were parallel worlds, but this is disproven by Keiichi remembering what he did to Rena and Mion in the first arc. I hope we are told more at some point.

The thing about Rena being grown up might have been just a way of showing us what would have happened after. We didn't know that everyone in the village died, right? We thought it was a good end. At least, I did.

Adult Rena was an anime change so they could have her talk about an important scene they skipped in Tsumihoroboshi; The scene where Rika confronts her and tries to give her an injection. In the game she was killed in the disaster.

Yes, but even in the games, characters have lived and grown up beyond Rika's death.
I believe that whole episode was based on the TIPS after Tsumihoroboshi-hen, and the scene where Rena tells about Rika's confrontation with her if from another TIPS, but I don't know where.

I'm not really saying that they were only showing an adult Rena for the sake of it, but more about what she says, and the rest of the information given throughout the episode. I always thought that they were just trying to incorporate more TIPS.

There were also some Higurashi manga stuff that showed Mion (possibly Shion) alive, and introducing other characters. That wasn't meant to show what Shmion would be like grown up, but I suppose it was to provide information about Satoshi? (it seems to go that way, even though I only read the first three chapters DX)

er... no offense I'm happy that there is a Higurashi live action movie. I actually wondered when they'd do it... but that trailer just makes me facepalm. I mean it looks rather cheaply made not to mention cheesey and well... outside of the clothes the girls look nothing like our favorite killer loli's...

I will give my two cents about the time reset after Rika's death. The only thing that contradicts the parallel worlds theory is Keiichi being able to remember a previous Hinamizawa, because parallel worlds would imply no connection whatsoever between them.(except Rika of course)
My theory is based on the hypothesis that all the characters of Higurashi have kept somewhere, experiences from previous Hinamizawa. You have some hints that their behaviours have changed between the Hinamizawa arcs. For example, Shion being very friendly with Satoko during the last arc, when you know how much she hated her before...
So Rika's death is the trigger of the time reset, and I think there's a time freeze at this moment with all experiences of Higurashi characters being almost erased but some part remaining in their unconscious mind.
Nevertheless, it doesn't mean there are no existing futures after Rika's death but it shows how the world would have continued, that explains the first episode of the second season.

I think it works like this.

A ----x-y----

C ----x-y----

The x is where Rika starts in the world and the y is where she's killed. When she's killed in world A then her memories are sent to world B then when she's killed in world B, it goes to world C and so on... There's an infinite amount of realities that all exist at the same time. Hanyuu uses her power to transfer Rika's memories from one reality to another. Of course Hanyuu can only transfer the memories to an alive Rika and the further back you go, the more time you have to avert the death.

Reset can have several meanings. The world doesn't end when Rika is killed.That's enough proof that they're different realities.

Hanyuu and Rika are spiritually connected. She can only transfer the memories of Rika.

Keiichi's memory recall was simply a miracle. There's no logical explanation behind it. That's what makes it a miracle.

Could it be possible that Rika was in this dreamlike place for longer than was shown? Or maybe, time is supposed to go slowler compared to time in the real world?

If you insist that situations such as the first episode of Kai really did happen, and are not possibilities of the future to show us certain details (such as Rika's confrontation with Rena), then this could explain it? They might not be creating a new world, and Rika's usage of the word 'world' might not mean that it is a seperate world. Rika might just be a time traveller after all.

It has to be a different reality. Demon Script takes place 25 years after the disaster. I severely doubt Rika sat in limbo for 25 years.

Also, Rika mentions in the game that in some worlds Keiichi never moved to Hinamizawa. If she were only going back in time, then the past would always be the same.

I think Keiichi was simply delusional/too paranoid in that chapter, but it just didn't happen in other chapters... and maybe the card game happens, but isn't shown?

Now for the arc's

We already know what happened in the first arc. Casey moves to Happy Town, and desperately wants a popsicle but Rachel won't give him any. Instead they decide to go to a Fi-YAY-sta where there are taco's with cheese and Casey get's to hit a pinata. Later he is taken to the hospital because he is lactoseintolerant.

Watanigashi-hen

Milly get's all jealous because Casey gives Rachel a cute doll because Milly secretly wants to tap that ass. Casey then goes to the local club and hit's on Milly's sister Shaniqua and learns that the two are twins. Milly and Shaniqua then decide to get revenge on Casey by playing a mean trick on him where they'll write all over him with permanent marker.

Tatarigoroshi-hen

Sally's evil uncle Biff comes to town and tries to make sally his servant while he freeloads off of her. Sally also begins to see a lot of her brother Sammy in Casey and freaks out because of Sammy running off to join the circus. Casey then decides to save Sally from her evil uncle Biff and gives him a good talking too. Officer Oswald acts like a total douche in this arc for some unknown reason, and sally helps Casey overcome his fear of bungee jumping.

Himatsuboshi-hen

Special Agent Antoine De Salle arrives in Happy Town to save the president's son. Here he meets Rika who warns him that he should go back home. Antoine ignores this but in the end it's too late because he finds out that his wife who was terminally ill has died and he never was able to find out. Rika then tells him the events to come in June of 1983

Maekashi-hen

It is revealed that during Watanigashi-hen Shaniqua was the one who was bringing everyone to the family fun room despite Milly's protests that she wanted to play a trick on Casey only, but Shaniqua had plans to trick other people like Sally who made her brother Sammy run off to join the circus. Oh how she loved Sammy and all. Then in the end Shaniqua tries to fly off a building but fails. She was prepared though and landed on a cushiony soft mound of marshmellows.

Tsumihoroboshi-hen

Rachel's dad is dating again which brings distress to Rachel because she never did get over her parents drifting apart. The new girl Reene seems nice at first but turns out to be a floozy who's actually with Sally's evil uncle Biff. Rachel get's mad and chases them away by threatening to call the cops on them. Then the gang put on a big school play with Casey and Rachel having a huge battle on the school roof. It was the best play ever.

Anyway, I was able to get some very nice Higurashi music courtesy of Youko.

"Kakeramusubi" and "Dear You" are definitely made of pure win. No, I'm not saying this because I'm a fan, but as a music lover, I can't help but listen to the songs in those two albums over and over after I got them.

Especially the "you" and "Dear You" tracks - greatness. Although I may find myself getting the last song syndrome because of these songs.

Interesting how they say Mion's weapon of choice is an airsoft gun (which isn't said anywhere in the anime)

and Rika's is none. I figured they'd say a syringe since at that time you believe she tried to kill Shion.
Does Rika use a syringe as a weapon in Daybreak? Or was it Takano? :P

No, seriously, with her small frame of hers, I think Rika won't be able to defend herself even with a weapon equipped.
