As always, the first part of the arc is more of the "happy days" part before it starts getting bad later (I presume). And it's refreshing that Shion's part of the gang now.

The zombie tag game was just hilarious. Rena blew-off Keiichi's almost-perfect game... twice. :lmao

Now I wonder what kind of "medication" Satoko is taking. Maybe it's the same "medication" Rika was trying to give Rena in Episode 1. Wonder what effects it has?

Not really. I watched all of the first season over 2 days to get ready for Kai, so I can't say I absorbed all the information. But i remember Rika having 'inside information' before, but I'm still a little confused as to what that might actually mean.

I don't think Triad is subbing season 2. I'm hearing that WinD is still missing people (they seem to be jinxed when it comes to this series. I mean, last season, they had to recruit new translators/encoders almost every arc). Ayu... just tends to take their time. For now, I'll use Hau~'s until one of them releases their subs.

Anyway, awesome episode. I love the fact that they included the My Favorite Wine TIP in the beginning, and the zombie tag had a kind of... morbid humor/comedy to it. I see lots of foreshadowing. I really wonder how this arc will end since its non-canon to the games, save for the TIPS that are shown.

As always the appetizer episodes are neat, but this one was clearly one of the best. They should always do some club activity for the start.

Rena's strategy was just too dirty. How could Kei1 resist? I laughed a lot during this whole run. I'd never fall for those tricks like family crisis but the girls and the Zombie tag thing was just too hysterical. But oh no, those two again. Funny how Keiichi learns every bit of the Hinamizawa disasters in this when in Onikakushi he only heard about it from Tomitake and they went postal on the girls.

I'm starting to think Rika is like one entity in numerous parallel Hinamizawas. Good job DEEN. BTW, has it said how long this arc will be?

I'm convinced that Rika has been alive for a really long time (and doesn't have split personalities like I once thought some time back in the first season). To describe something as "endless" means that whatever is occurring repeatedly must have been doing so for an ungodly amount of time.

As far as the length of Yakusamashi-hen, we don't know. Although it was initially presumed to be eight episodes long for each arc. But since Episode 1 wasn't part of the first arc, then maybe it will go for seven. Who knows? :amuse

They leave in the years as Showa. The translation is pretty standard. There's somethings that are good, some that are questionable. It's in .mp4 format too. Personally, I think WinD's subs make it a bit more simpler to read and understand. Ayu has a great fanmade logo though. @_@

All the evidence is in, and my verdict for myself is to stick with WinD. I liked the translation, and it is easier to read, and I prefer avi format. It's easier to work with for editing/ DVD burning etc.....Sure I could convert any video type to an avi but that takes time and is a pain.

What is the best sub for episode 2?For preference sake, stick with WinD. Ayu's is a very good sub though they tend to make quite literal translations. For instance, they translate "Oyashiro-sama" as the "Shrine God." If you'd like a slight better quality and smaller size, then Ayu's would be the way to go.

After Episode 3 and Satoko finding out Rika's anticipation of death, it is likely that her friends will try to do something for her. Whether we'll see that in this arc, we can never tell.

I think Rika's gonna try to save Tomitake and change fate. I saw a new trailer where someone has mixed scenes from previous trailers, Kai episodes, and screenshots, and it seems that might be why we see her running so desperately in her shrine maiden outfit. It really can't have been to escape her killer, since she was wearing her festival outfit. Plus, when you think about it, he's a lot like her. Every time, he dies. He never gets a happy ending-he never gets to live. And unlike most of them, he never is shown snapping, killing anyone, or even acting mean. He shows more of an interest in stopping the murders as well. Rika might thus feel a connection with him and want to try and save him.

That's an interesting view there regarding Tommy. Well, yes, in every arc, it's always him and Rika that dies. Maybe Rika thought that maybe she'll get to live if she can prevent Tommy from dying.

My theory was pretty much right. I'm glad Rika made an effort to save Tomitake, but I'm more than a little disappointed that he didn't seem to take her seriously. I'll have to wait and see it fansubbed before I really know though. Either way, I need to use that scene for a new set. Anyone here know how to make animates sigs and such?^^;

I checked the raw for Episode 4. Interesting... things are starting to become ugly...

I only think that Rika is drastically trying to change her fate with the slightest of differences. Just like what I said, even though she knows what is going to happen, given her physical body, it is less likely that people will believe her, just like her warning to Tommy.

And isn't it interesting that the epilogue of Tsumihoroboshi-hen happened in this arc? I mean, with Oishi talking to Rika this time regarding the murders. But even if she did tell him about the truth, it will just be the same, I think.

I have to wait for the subs to get a better understanding...

I've been thinking, what if he does believe her? At least, about it being possible he's going to die that night. He knows the murders occur every year and that his activities with helping Takano break into the shrine make him a target. Maybe he does not heed her warning for his own reasons. For example, a soldier going off to war knows there are fair odds they will be killed, yet still choose to go anyway. Maybe Tomitake has something he simply HAS or WANTS to do, even if it means his death.

Here's what I think...

Well yes, Tommy has got himself involved in the mystery, although why (and how) he dies everytime is another question. Obviously, he doesn't have a recollection of his death in every "world". Now, if he did remember (like in Keiichi's case in Tsumihoroboshi-hen), then maybe, he'll believe Rika's warnings.

The thing is, he just doesn't strike me as the foolish type, nor the type to just cast aside someone's warnings, child or not. I can't shake the feeling that he knew he was in danger with whatever he was up to that night. He seemed more than a little freaked out when Rika confronted him with the fact that he was going to die. I know, who wouldn't be, but it was more like reminded him of something he already knew. I'm still unsure of exactly what he said, but his later reaction seemed to support that. Rika was clearly really upset. I think normal Tomitake would have tried to comfort her and not just kinda left her there all upset. But if he kind of believed her, he might have trouble doing so sincerely enough to be convincing.

Well, that was how the first season was patterned... and received by viewers. Every arc features people killing and getting killed. It won't be a surprise if something like that happens in Kai. I mean, Episode 4 is a start. But as I have been saying, there's more to Higurashi than just the killings. Once you have figured out why the whole story is somewhat repeating itself, then the more you would like to find out the mystery behind it.

Seriously, I'm getting tired of hearing comments from people who say that the new season "isn't Higurashi yet" without the violence, gore and disturbed people. It's about time they realize that Kai is aiming to tie up loose-ends of the Hinamizawa mystery than just being a bloody, disturbing series. Although, as I said, deaths and killings are inevitable. What matters is everything falls into place.

But I'd be lying if I said that I don't want to see "the usual stuff" for this season... :P

After watching the subs, I don't think Tommy was really anticipating his death. He had this "WTF?!" face when Rika said about his apparent death and he even kidded about Rika "cursing" him. I think he was oblivious to what he got himself into.

Notice that it has something to do with him taking pictures of the festival and/or barging in the shrine? Don't you think SOMEONE is making him do these on purpose, then kill him so that it will all point to the curse of Oyashiro-sama?

Just a thought.

When a small child says something like that to you, you're gonna react like that no matter who you are, most likely. I think he then made a joke to try and cover up how much he really knew. One person has died and one person has vanished every year-we all know that he knows that. And he was clearly involved in some troublesome stuff that would make him a target, like breaking into the storehouse. I can't think of him as naive enough to completely brush her off. He must have had an idea he could end up getting killed.

Well, he sure has an idea, but after that warning, maybe he realized it was too late, and that he was in deep shit (since minutes later, he met his demise). Now, if Rika could have told him days or hours before the Watanagashi Matsuri, then there could be a little chance that his life would be spared. Although it is really hard for Rika to make people believe her, really.

And Maybe Tommy got scared shitless seeing a little girl talk in such a mature voice, and talk about his nearing death. :P

Well, yes, it is ALWAYS said by Oishi, but anime-wise, we haven't seen the said assault. I haven't played the game or read the TIPS posted over at AS so understand that I'm a bit shady about Tommy being attacked by villagers.

Still, no matter where you look at it, it's really impossible to take on a group of people by yourself, unless you're superhuman or something. :)

Speaking of Satoko, ever wondered why she didn't ask Shion? I mean, with regards to this arc, Shion has been very supportive to Satoko that the latter could have asked the former for help.

Although, what could be the assurance that something can be done even if Satoko does that? Like what, ask the Sonozaki Estate for "back-up" against the mysterious stalker? That would be impossible since the Sonozaki clan detests the Houjou family. Not even Shion can do something about it unless she offers her nails as "distinction"...

Shion was completely overlooked, it seemed. And for her "distinction", that really had nothing to do with the Houjo family. In the mind of her grandmother, she'd caused a lot of trouble. She snuck out of boarding school, returned to her home area, started dressing as Mion and hanging out in Hinamizawa, revealed her true identity to the police, and even gave an alibi to a person who was quite possibly a murderer.

Oh. My. God. There's not enough words to describe how I feel about Episode 5. All I can say is that this episode owns ALL Higurashi episodes to date, IMO.

The first half was really emotional for me. I can't stop feeling so sad for Satoko. She wasn't able to protect Satoko like what she wanted to do, sees Rika watanagashi'd, get chased by the murderers, falls of a bridge and sees the death of a lot of people, especially her closest friends... resulting in her comatose. Not to forget that Oishi roughed her up, desperately trying to get her out of it. :cry

And it's funny that when Oishi was getting near in solving the mystery, the key in solving it suddenly dies.

And I quote, "You're fucking kidding me!"

Next week is the start of Minagoroshi-hen. With 19 episodes left, I wonder how long will this arc be?

I'd talk more about it, but I'm seriously ticked off right now.^^; That one admin at animesuki has been treating me bad since day one, even banning me. It finally got lifted awhile ago, but now he deletes and gets every other post I make in trouble. Does anyone here post in the Higurashi section there? If so, have you noticed it? Because I got banned again, which really makes me mad. It was supposedly for discussing an image and whether it was appropriate or not...in the image discussion topic.>_>; Then in the episode threads, I asked if anyone knew if an avi fansub of that particular episode was out, but then those posts were deleted for allegedly being off-topic, even though people have been doing the same since the thread for the first episode of the first season. And in that topic, he didn't bother to say a word to the twenty-some people who had been discussing that very thing before I ever became part of it. It just really ticks me off that there are unfair people like that who ruin the Higurashi experience.>_< That forum is also riddled with major spoilers, most of which go unmarked or poorly marked, which is how most of the series got spoiled for me, along with how I've been treated by the staff there.>_<
