When Rika was telling the doctor her story, I knew it wouldn't go well. In his eyes, she's only a child. A child who's probably making up stories to feel special, so she won't feel alone now that her friends have moved away. A comfort, away from Satako. I could see where he was coming from, and I understood why he rang Rika's mother.
But still, Rika, and us viewers, still felt betrayed all the same.
And oh lawd, Rika with the chair. :lmao
I half expected to see blood. And I'm surprised Satoshi didn't react so much to it. He goes to, understandable extremes when the uncle abuses her, but when it's a fellow classmate who bashes her repeatedly with a chair, he asks her to be his friend. Different circumstances, I know, but still.

Glad that there was finally a subbed version of this. Though the part where Mion, Satoshi, and Reina were talking to Rika took so long that i actually got bored. From the next episode preview it doesn't look like Rika kills her mom but she dies and she gets back to the original world.

Wow, good episode. I love the bit where Rika beat up Satoko with a chair. I was surprised that happened, since Satoko has been Rika's best friend for hundreds of years now, by Rika's perspective. I never expected her to snap like that.
Poor Rika has to kill her mom. :( I wonder how that will go through.

Wow, talk about a mind fuck. Rika got thrown into a world where everything has completely changed.
Although I kind of blame her for taking the unnecessary risk in getting herself killed in her previous world. I wonder which world will Rika end up choosing now that she knows where the fragment is hiding?

Oh yeah, one more thought about the third OVA: What is wrong with this school? The school doctor calls Rika's mom because of something Rika said, which could be imaginary as far as he knows, and no one calls Rika's mom because Rika beat up Satoko with a chair?

Perhaps the school probably chalked it up to a typical kid fight. The doctor on the other hand probably found that long thought out explanation of Rikas' to be a bit too detailed and most likely thought it was a bit disturbing if she were having such grand delusions.
In any case violence always takes a back seat to mental and emotional issues. xDD
It's probably why people will cry bloody murder at a sex scene but fine when someone head's blown off. And thinking about this series that's probably a more likely outcome.

It's different.
The first season focused on the personal issues of the characters, that always led them to some gruesome killings and deaths.
These personal issues are solved and the situation is explained right at the beginning of the second season and after that they focus on defeating a common enemy (and to survive together). So it's not that bloody (yet there's still plenty of violence, especially around Satoko) they concenrate more on solving the mystery.
IMHO it's a bit weaker than the first season - maybe because I liked the murders better than the mystery-solving part

No, it wasn't a dream. That world did exist and Rika did kill her own mother to return to the old world but Hanyuu wants Rika to think of it as a dream. A dream that she showed Rika to be mean.

Wow, quite a bit philosophical discussion going there :S
I wanted to see exactly how Rika chose her world. I refuse to believe it was just a dream Hanyuu created to teach Rika a valuable lesson. I can understand that world in fact became a dream after Rika made her decision but everything leading up to that point seemed as if she did in fact go into that clean world and needed to make a definite decision as to which one she wanted.

Yeah, I pretty much knew that. I guess my post was kind muddled. I wasn't being actually being literal when I said, I couldn't believe it was a dream. But it might as well be from a human perspective, if Rika wants stops playing the role of a semi-god.

After Saikoroshi-hen comes Miotsukushi-hen. Unfortunately I doubt Deen will animate this last one, and it's a shame because...
All the remaining misteries such as the end of Watanagashi-hen (behold the zombie girl, MWAHAHAHAHA!!) to give a example, are solved. And what's more, finally Lambdadelta shows up and confronts Berkanstel and the Hinamizawa gang in the most epic fight of Higurashi.

Miotsukushi is an alternative version of Matsuribayashi. Miotsukushi also wasn't written by Ryukishi07 so Matsuribayashi + Saikoroshi is the canon ending.

Miotsukushi is an alternative version of Matsuribayashi. Miotsukushi also wasn't written by Ryukishi07 so Matsuribayashi + Saikoroshi is the canon ending.
You should check more info if you're not sure:
The chapter name "Miotsukushi" is a pun of Mio-tsu-kushi (or traditionally Miwo-tsu-kushi) (澪標, canal sign?) and Mi wo tsukushi (身を尽(く)し, Mi wo tsukushi?), a conjugation form of Mi wo tsukusu (身を尽くす, serve one's body?). This pun is very famous in Japanese poetry such as Haiku.
After finding out who the real murderer is, Rika and Keiichi decide to put an end to the whole mystery, but they are in a different situation than Matsuribayashi-hen. Before they can do anything, they have to solve other people's problems first. The problems of Watanagashi/Meakashi-hen, Tatarigoroshi-hen, and Tsumihoroboshi-hen are met here and all of them must be solved. While Matsuribayashi-hen is the epilogue of PC-port games, it is considered to be the "Good End" of the series. According to the original author, Miotsukushi-hen should be considered the true end of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
By "original author" it means Ryukishi07. Alchemist would be unable to make such arc full of epicness.
Also in case you don't know...
In Miotsukushi-hen it's Lambdadelta who rewinds time, with the sole purpose of annihilate everyone and defeat Berkanstel.

Even in wikipedia. Also, 07th Expansion were involved in the additional console editions, which confirms Ryukishi wrote the script for the new arcs and the true ending. But I already knew it, because as I already said, Alchemist would be unable to make this by themselves. The involvement is further emphasized in 07th Expansion's website.

It's hard to compare season one and two. Despite being the same anime, they're very different from each other. You can criticize the first for being too random, too repetitive and relying too much on shock value; You can criticize the second for being too slow, no suspense and not having enough violence. Rei, the OVAs are more of season two's style. If you want more of season one's style then read or wait for Umineko.

Of course the manga owns, cause it tells the story exactly as it's in the original novels. Ryukishi07 is the writer and many ilustrators draw each arc.
But to be fair, the second season started good, Minagoroshi-hen was fine, but then it came Matsuribayashi-hen and, what the hell, excluding the beggining that was a fucking filler.
And though first season was the best, there were many things modified and/or omitted.
If someone hasn't begin to read the manga yet, I recomend to do it now. It's epic, truly a masterwork. Currently I'm reading Watanagashi-hen (up to chapter 7). The differences with the anime are abismal.

In Matsuribayashi Satoshi dies. I don't remember have seen that in the anime. However, in Miotsukushi-hen, it is revealed that Doctor Irie put him under heavy sedation in the underground parts of the clinic.

http://www.onemanga.com/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_-_Minagoroshi/1/10/
Who are you going to trust more? Deen or Ryukishi07:)
Satoshi doesn't die in Matsuribayashi. He's in a coma.
Miyoko and Lambdadelta look the same but they aren't the same person.
I know the Frederica part from Minagoroshi because I've read it. The first 7 chapters of the Minagoroshi visual novel was translated.

My bad, I misunderstood coma with death. Still, a post-Matsuribayashi-hen arc called Kokoroyashi-hen, written by Ryukushi too (all the arcs were written by him), reveals Satoshi didn't awake from his comatose state yet.
As for Lambdadelta, I know they aren't the same, but she and Frederika live as Miyoko and Rika in Hinamizawa
I watched the anime, and though lots of things were modified and/or omitted I enjoyed it...
...until I checked some pages of the true end of Watanagashi and how the whole scene really happens. It was then when Deen ruined the anime adaptation for me, and the height of stupidity came when they omitted the epilogue of Tatarigoroshi where the entire village is annihilated and Keiichi goes mad (man, that interviewer might be really scared).

Well yeah. The first season had A LOT of material cut because they tried to squeeze 6 games into 26 episodes. The second season was a much more faithful adaption. It still had cuts but not nearly as much.

Most likely because the gruesomeness of some scenes. Now Umineko anime is coming, I wonder how they will animate some of the bloody parts. Like this one:

They were remade for a reason.
Also, licensing the computer games might make people think twice about buying them. For example, if I heard the game was licensed for the DS, I'd definitley buy it. But, hearing that we're getting a PC version doesn't fill me with the same eagerness.

It's not even in that arc, I have no idea why Studio DEEN put that there.
And it's 6 different arcs but one of the arcs are only 2 episodes. I don't really think I should spoil what the arcs are about. But if you really want to know It's pretty much only around Watanagashi, but it's not always the same year. Also they're connected.

It has nothing to do with that arc, I think.
If my memory serves me right, it's because she didn't want to give Shion the satisfaction of killing her herself, so she chose to take her own life.
I wouldn't click that if I were you, it would spoil nearly two arcs.

Scenes like that is what makes the manga full of epic. Also it's the only way to read the story as it's in the games (cos it's written by Ryukishi himself).

In regards to the Higurashi game being licensed, the plan is to release two sets with four arcs each (so question arcs, and then answer arcs). Also, I've heard that the company doesn't have psychical releases, but download only. If the original doujin game being licensed didn't put me off enough, this surely has. What's the point, when the game is being translated, anyway? Even if it's at a snail's pace.

It's just lost its entertainment value. "WHAT, A CURSE? AND A BOY? LIKE ME, YOU SAY? MURDERS? Explain this to me for the next two episodes, 'cause in this alternate universe I've yet to hear about it."
Then it all plays out almost exactly the same 'til the conclusion, which is different. It just always adds little details to the same story to change them up. Just explaining everything over and over is making me uninterested. I'm gonna keep watching, but it's getting a bit meh. I want some answers already. >_>

Watanagashi: Mion and the Watanagashi festival
Tatarigoroshi: Satoko and...
Himatsubushi: Rika and...
Higurashi is part mystery. Part of the fun is taking everything you learn and trying to figure out the answers before it tells you. Episode 16 starts the answer arcs, where you'll start getting answers. But it's not until the second season that you get the big ones.

If you compressed Higurashi into a small period of time, you'd get House of Flying Daggers-esque storytelling, and that'd just be silly.

Also, apparently mangagamer's translations for Higurashi are the best that they've done. Which is excellent, considering their typos and spelling errors are rather infamous at this stage. I think they realise that Higurashi is a title that might actually sell outside of the eroge market, so they're pulling their proverbial socks up.

[16:55] <dan88> How is the translation of Higurashi going so far?
[16:56] <EvoSpace> the first chapter is already translated and edited
[16:57] <dan88> Is the editing going well, or lots of typos making it through?
[16:58] <EvoSpace> I personally thought the English grammer is better than the Sonzaki's version
[16:58] <EvoSpace> now its just the choices of special terms...
[16:59] <dan88> <EvoSpace> I personally thought the English grammer is better than the Sonzaki's version<---awesome if true
[17:00] <dan88> better quality then the KiraKira translation?
[17:00] <EvoSpace> right
[17:00] <dan88> nice
[17:00] <EvoSpace> higurashi > shuffle > kirakira in terms of translation XD
[x] (http://archive.easymodo.net/cgi-board.pl/jp/thread/3003617#3004602)
That's a good sign, anyway. I got Kirakira, but the grammar and spelling were horrible, to be honest. Rather Engrishy, and it totally took the fun out of playing it. It was like the feel of the game wasn't translated. People have been saying that Shuffle's translation is excellent so far, so hearing that Higurashi surpasses it in terms of translation is really good news.
More parts about Higurashi from the chat;
[16:24] <EvoSpace> I'm actually more concerned about higurashi right now tho
[16:24] <EvoSpace> did you guys hear about that rumor?
[16:24] <VDZ> What rumor?
[16:24] <EvoSpace> that email between someone and the higurashi creator('s company)
[16:24] <VDZ> You mean between the twins and Ryukishi?
[16:24] <VDZ> That they got official permission?
[16:26] <VDZ> Huh...I'm sure that if that was true, 07th Expansion would've noticed by now
[16:27] <Azurite> Where did that rumour come from?
[16:27] <VDZ> I'm sure that some angry fans will have sent letters to 07th Expansion about you stopping the fan translation of Higurashi
[16:27] <EvoSpace> right
[16:28] <EvoSpace> so I wonder if this email in question was forged by the fans of the sonozaki sisters XD
[16:28] <VDZ> About Higurashi...you port all games you release to your own engine, right? So Higurashi won't be ONScripter anymore?
[16:29] <EvoSpace> VDZ: I believe so
[16:30] <VDZ> You're not planning to store the game music in the game folder in unarchived format, like 07th Expansion does, are you?
[16:30] <EvoSpace> no idea about that
[16:49] <EvoSpace> They did hire another proofreader for Higurashi though
[16:49] <EvoSpace> other than sonozaki
In case some of you didn't know, the 'Sonozaki twins' are actually a pair of real life twins, who were (rather slowly) translating (http://sonozakifutagotachi.blogspot.com/) the Higurashi games.

Hey everyone, I made an AMV. A tribute for my favorite pairing K1xMion, but true Higurashi Style. Or at least, that's what I'm hoping :hehee
Please do take a look at the storyline before watching, because the video might me confusing :argh
STORYLINE
After Shion lets Keiichi know that Mion likes him, he does some thinking and realizes that he likes her too. They get together afterwards, but to Keiichi's horror, Mion is spending too much time with Satoshi, who has woken up. The paranoia hits him full-force, and he fails to notice that all along, the one with Satoshi wasn't Mion, but Shion. Mion and Keiichi start having issues because Keiichi just doesn't trust her anymore, and the paranoia takes over him and he ends up murdering Satoshi.
Shion, after Satoshi goes missing, is hit by the paranoia herself, and she blames the Sonozaki family for what happened, especially Mion, and kills her. She then proceeds to pretend she was her, and tries to kill Keiichi as well, for she lost Satoshi and it's only fair that her sister lost her loved one, too. Keiichi realizes what has happened, and the mistake he made, and he's crushed. Out of vengeance and pain for Mion's unfair death, Keiichi kills Shion.
And at the end, he's completely overwhelmed by the disease and ends up tearing his own throath.
So no happy endings here Rika, I'm sorry.

The only time I got involved with Saimoe was in 2008, and I don't even have to tell you who won that year. :hehee
Seriously, that was the time where people in this thread really came together as one, like the village of Hinamizawa and fought against fate of the internetz. I mean, I can't forget how the Higurashi fandom was hated after Rena unexpectedly defeated Kagami (and it doesn't matter what everybody said at the time), and Rika just rode easily to win it all. And it all happened when Higurashi became NF's Anime of the Month. Ah yes... I remember those days.
And yes, after that year, I couldn't care less about Saimoe.

I don't know which is scarier - an L5 Rena with a cleaver or a Rena under the influence of the magatama. And Rena takes her famous "USO DA!" to ridiculously hilarious levels. :lmao
Yeah, what a good way to end a series that started three years ago. :amuse

With all of those screen shots of Renas "I'm gonna kill you" face I thought it might be at least somewhat serious
Sort of funny but it was completely random, kind of like a one episode naruto filler

T'was rather silly, and I was expecting that. A lot of people are bitching about the fifth episode in the MAL discussions saying that it wasn't 'like Higurashi at all. With no blood, no gore', and are comparing it to the original series, and Kai. It's a rather pointless thing to do, considering Rei is separated from the main story, and was for the fans. My favourite bit was towards the end, where Rena told Keiichi that she loved him. So sweet.

Why am I not surprised hearing the same comments as when the first OVA came out? :amuse
Even though I admit that I was expecting to see Rika go on a rampage in Saikoroshi-hen, but it never happened. :hehee

Just what you said, Rei was made for fans. At least this episode was for the Rena X Keiichi shippers. That's all there is to it.

I suppose comparing it to a naruto filler was too far. Fine, any other generic anime filler. How is the setup any different?
A sudden and random anime problem has occurred. Main char and friends go to solve the problem whilst running into other random/funny shenanigans
Although yes, I have stated there's little room for more blood/horror elements, it doesn't excuse how random the first and last episodes of Rei were. Why add them in the first place? It was as if they were trying to parody themselves with this last episode. "USO LOL"
I give the first and second season 8.5-9/10, this 5/10 at best.

Higurashi ended in Kai for me. Rei is just a "nice-to-have" thing. It's not necessary as you can skip it entirely, but being a fan, I just had to see it for the heck of it.
Suffice to say, the shenanigans of the first and last OVA are acceptable to me, at least. It made me laugh at parts, and it's nothing to take seriously.

Finally watched the fifth OVA and it wasn't as bad as I imagined it to be. The forced fanservice was lame, though.
Rena wasn't nearly as annoying as I'm used to and I even found the Keiichi/Rena pairing pretty nice.

I had another look at the Mangagamer site, and they still plan to release Higurashi by the end of November. They're also planning to release Kai around December, but it'll probably be pushed back.

I have no long winded post for this, I watched the first three episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and here was the expression on my face.Death Loli's :wha-As of episode 8
Just finished watching episode eight, it was possibly the first time I ever felt scared during an anime watch. The ending actually made me flinch, it's possible that the atmosphere in my room is adding to the suspense, right now it's pitch dark. The series has still been fairly random and droll, but oddly enjoyable.

Brrrr, that terrifying ending of Watanagashi-hen, the Sonozaki Zombie... Everytime I remember that, it gives me nightmares. That part, between the anime and the original (novel and manga) there's no point of comparison. It's a million times scarier in the later.

According to Mangagamer's forums, somebody actually emailed them asking why they didn't mention anything about Higurashi on the main page. The answer was that they wanted to avoid putting up a game on the website (and give it a release date) until they have a solid release date scheduled, to avoid repeats of the problems from multiple games last year (released for a day/many postponements/etc).
And apparently, Higurashi has been pushed back to December. Not really surprising.

Does anyone have Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai DVD ripped megaupload links, or even a decent torrent? I started watching and couldn't help but notice how low the video quality was in the first episode, I take it their standard TV rips. This series has been out for a while so I thought the links I wanted wouldn't be to hard to find but apparently I can't find anything of decent quality.

Apparently Akasaka is a night ninja that occasionally stunt doubles for Jackie Chan, I had to laugh at the random Kung Fu moves he pulled in episode 22. Since when was this guy a black belt in karate. This series is forever dubbed Higurashi: Akasaka's way of the fist :lmao

There was one thing in the first season of Higurashi I've always been confused about. Keiichi before he ever moved to Hinamizawa started shooting kids with BB guns. Did he actually injured the kids with the BB guns or was Keiichi just fooling around? (Sorry if the question sounds stupid but I don't really know that much when it comes to guns)

Unless he went for the eyes, I doubt it. Most BB guns don't do anything more than sting.

He shot a little girl in the eye who went blind. Keiichi's dad paid consolation money and they moved to Hinamizawa so none would know what he had done.

Same. As I mentioned a few pages back, one of the translators said that this is the company's best translation yet. The main reason why it keeps being pushed back is to ensure 'the highest possible quality', so that's good.
For anyone else wondering why there's all talk about proper translations, this company is infamous for their half-assed translations, and disgraceful typos. I wouldn't really care if it was a few random fan translators, but this is an actual company, making people pay for the games. You'd think paying 35 euro a pop would mean that you're getting some quality entertainment, but that's not the case with this company. I'm hoping Higurashi is the start of better translations from them.
