well it's only 20 chapters and believe me near the end you see how fucked up everything is. Besides the little one shot stories there is an overall plot that gets explored during the last ten or so chapters. I'd say the first ten chapters are like season 1 of Higurashi while the last ten are like season 2 as it wraps everything up.

The ending itself is messed up though. I can't tell if Shuichi and Kirie got a good or bad end.

You make it sound like it's a huge chore. :laugh After all it's 20 chapters. It won't kill ya. Not like I'm asking you to read over 500 chapters or something.

Heck the hospital arc and the post-typhoon arc alone were probably my favorite arcs though I did enjoy the one chapter stories as well. Admittingly at first it seems like a shock horror series but over the series it does become deeper and more character involved. Much like Higurashi was. Heck look at season 1. The majority of arcs consisted of the whole "how will the characters die this time?" formula. It wasn't until the last two or three answer arcs that everything started coming together.

So yeah at least get to the end. If it still didn't impress you I respect that. Just odn't give up on it cause you think it's nothing but a shock horror manga. I almost did that myself and if I had I wouldn't have kept reading and appreciated the series as I do now.

I hated Uzumaki's ending. The series was great for a shock factor but other than that it wasn't anything amazing in my opinion. I fell in love with Higurashi because of its characters. They will stick with me through the rest of my anime career.

Anyways I finally got a Higurashi set again.

Here's what what know about season three.

1. It isn't really a season.
2. It's a few OVAs.
3. It's called Higurashi Rei.
4. Likely, it'll be about Higurashi Rei.

From what I hear though, the Rei VN's were real short. Onikakushi translated to 4 anime episodes, so if what I heard is correct, all of Rei's 3 storylines should translate to 1 each, if the past is any indication.

But there will be an Umineko anime coming apparently. I think this year too. Hopefully, they'll cut out the scenes where Battler talks only about people's heights and names.

Yes. They solve it in Kai. All Rei (the alleged third season) can possibly be is from Higurashi Rei the visual novel... which is three storylines that aren't even Onikakushi-size in length...

However, in Higurashi Matsuri, they have different versions of three sagas, including the last one. I really hope they do those cause they sound awesome...

I loved this series. I first heard of it on friday, downloaded it, watched it satruday, and watchec kai sunday/today, then went on to make my sig (it didnt come out like I wanted but I love it, it makes me itch though). Just got the Nekogoroshi special, so gunna watch that now.

But it's pretty popular in Japan. The games sell very well. Umineko sold out in a half-hour. I read the sales only have a rival in Tsukihime as far as competition goes.

anyway it was an awesome anime all in all, especially the early arcs... or world.. or whatever;

Absurdity was why I love it.

The idea behind Higurashi was that psychopath mode, which came first, brought about all the wrong results, screwing everything up and making it chaotic.

Then later, the reverse happens. They realize that violent tendancies were a waste, and they decide to simply be their playful selves. And that is truly what brought everything down, physically and mentally. It all goes full circle. People may not like it, but objectively, there's very little they could've done better.

100 or so years of knowledge also played a role. They weren't mere kids. They were kids that saw similar situations happen hundreds of times. You know how many times they had to lose before winning once? It makes total sense why they could be able to do such things.

Sorry for the double post, I found info on when Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rai will be released.

The software developer Ryukishi07 (Seventh Expansion) revealed on Wednesday that the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni franchise's first video anime series, the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei collection of side stories, will begin shipping on December 26 on DVD and one month later on Blu-ray Disc in Japan. The first of five volumes, "Hajisarashi," will be a gag story set in the municipal swimming pool. The next three volumes, which will be the "Saikoroshi" arc, will be a serious drama involving one of the story's heroines after the resolution of the two previous television series. This arc will be released between February and June of next year. The final volume, "Hirukowashi" on August of 2009, will be a slapstick romantic comedy based on a novel spinoff from the Higurashi Daybreak game, which is being ported to the PSP.

Toshifumi Kawase, the series supervisor of the previous anime versions of Higurashi, will direct the new series with new character designs from Kazuya Kuroda (Chrono Crusade, Vandread, Spice and Wolf). Kenji Kawai will return to compose the music. Funimation has taken over North American distribution of the first Higurashi television series from Geneon Entertainment, but no announcement has been made yet of future Higurashi anime licenses in the region.

Hajisarashi? That's cool. I know nothing about it. I do wonder about Batsukoishi-hen though. That was part of Rei. It was deemed too silly, but IMO, Higurashi as a slice-of-life, would be better than most of them, bar maybe NHK. The cast's just too loveable IMO.

My friend Girlhair and I were working on something pretty similar to that. We managed to make Higurashi a little bit more populated than Death Note. Our eventual goal was to beat Haruhi. And then his internet self disappeared...

For me, I'm pretty much got over my Higurashi funk weeks after Kai ended, so I'm not that affected if the Japanese keep killing each other because of claims that it was "inspired" by Higurashi or Death Note. Not unlike before that incident in Kai where Episode 12 was delayed.

It's the pseudo-sequal to Higurashi. It's not quite as good as Higurashi, but it has, what, two arcs out so far compared to Higurashi's already complete nine?

Though IMO, the first two Umineko sagas were better than Higurashi's first two, so chances are that I'll ultimately like Umineko better in the end.

It has a few elements of Higurashi. Mystery and cruel deaths. Seemingly supernatural deaths, but it probably isn't. Cool main character. Frederica.

3. What exactly happened at the beginning of episode 9? Did they discover a body or something? If yes whose body is that?

If I remember correctly, the Shion that suddenly appeared was just a figment of his imagination. That or a wizard did it.

1. Rena didn't know about Hinamizawa Syndrome then. She thought there was a disease that made maggots in your blood and she thought aliens were cloning people. The fake notebook Takano gave her lead to to believe in all of that. So, yes, they were lies made by Takano so the syndrome would advance. Either Takano wanted to make more test subjects (doubtful since she knew she would soon gas the village) or she was doing it for the lulz. The Shion Keiichi saw at the end of episode 8 was an hallucination caused by the syndrome. He died of an acute heart failure.

2. The anime never explained it, probably to prevent unnecessary confusion. Mion is actually Shion and Shion is actually Mion. That's why Mion doesn't mind Shion taking her place anytime she wants, since she stole her identity by accident.

3. It was Rina (Teppei's girlfriend). She was killed for the same reason she was killed in Minagoroshi; trying to steal money from the Sonozakis.

Daemon Tools allowed the installation of the program, but it wouldn't let me proceed any further without the first disc. I have it, and I tried two different mounting programs and neither were able to get me further.

Mion (birth name Shion) loves Keiichi, is the heir of the Sonozakis, is usually seen wearing a long dress and a tie. She's the one that never goes crazy. She is the younger sister (only by a few seconds) and wasn't born the heir. She was originally the outcast until they gave her the oni tattoo by mistake.

Shion (birth name Mion) loves Satoshi, is an outcast of the Sonozakis, is usually seen wearing a short skirt and carrying a taser. She's the one that goes crazy in Watanagashi and Meakashi. She is the older sister (only by a few seconds) and was born the heir.

Ushiromiya Jessica: Inoue Marina

I only remember Ono from Haruhi as Koizumi who is IMO, the most forgetable of the bunch. But the voice fits, IMO. Not as good as say, Keiichi v. 2, but I bet he'll be full of surprises.

Inoue Marina. Don't remember watching an anime with her, but looking at clips and stuff, she doesn't sound like a tomboy schoolgirl that hates to study.

I wanna see Kanon's VA. I hope it's real good, cause he's my fav after Battler.

Not sure if this is new or not. not exactly anime related, but Higurahi related :p it's about a new manga chapter, also in article about a new TTGL chapter/manga whatever.

The Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Kokoro-Iyashi-hen (When They Cry - Higurashi: Heart-Healing Chapter) manga will also start later this month after a preview in the current Comp Ace issue. The story will be about the character Rika and her after-school club's first summer vacation together. Yuna Kagesaki (Karin/Chibi Vampire, Strange Mansion, Hekikai no AiON) will draw the manga based on Ryukishi07/07th Expansion's mystery suspense visual novels

Evil eyes are easy to make into a signature, but that's pretty cliche.

When the maximum height's so small, it's very hard to find something.

A small montage of various Higurashi moments would be what I'd choose. You know, a little bit of bloody Shion here, a little bit of Rika's OO face there, Rena holding the lighter, Hanyuu with her scary face. And then fill up a signature with them.
