Hehe. That's good to hear. :)
And to at least lessen the pain of waiting, I'm rewatching the first 15 episodes, and planning to finish the rest. :amuse
Edit (again!): I have finished all 26 and felt so damn good about it. Now I'm more excited than ever for the next season.
Meakashi-hen is the best arc. Shion is just... fuck. :amuse
I'm also having fun with some other Higurashi media. Right now, I'm listening to the titular OP, as well as watching gameplay videos of Higurashi Daybreak. That game made me laugh, really. :laugh

A second season comming? Wohoo!
This was one series I really enjoyed... even though some parts made me feel a little sick to my stomache and staring at the screen like "Did that really just happen?"... The part when Rika pounds her head against the butcher knife.
Oh, and I loved the OP for the first season. :P

12-19-2006, 11:46 AM
"Casey & Friends" is even more disturbing than Higurashi. :P
*points up*
Hey, same sentiments here. Hopefully it includes the last two solution arcs, and even some of the side stories.
Oh yes, the OP sequence and the song itself are great. I've never stopped listening to it from the moment I had it.
The scenes that really made me cringe are from Meakashi-hen (hence the reason why it is my most favorite arc in Higurashi):
-Shion asking Mion to say sorry 1000 times while hacking Satoko to death.
-The "Distinction" event, a.k.a., the fingernail removal. I guess I need not explain why.

Yeah Shion went totally insane there, it was quite horrible to watch what she did to Satoko, the finger nail removal thing was not as bad. It still made you think how disturbing Higurashi was tough, but that didn't stop the anime from being very interesting. :amazed

That was the most gruesome arc ever, but bloody damn brilliant. It's still one of my fav arcs. Although, now that a second season is pretty much confirmed, I think we'll be getting an even more exciting story. :grin

12-19-2006, 03:55 PM
Minagoroshi-hen was the one arc they didn't animate, but there was also Matsuribayashi-hen, which was the recently released game. Both supposedly answered about everything. I'm thinking maybe they should animate extra arcs from the manga, or PS2 game, or even Daybreak.

Yeah, I do hope so.
If the new season will also span 26 episodes, it could also span six arcs, namely the last two solution arcs, the side stories (Onisarashi-hen and Yoigoshi-hen), and the extra chapters from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei (Saigoroshi-hen and Hirukowashi-hen) that are supposed to be released at the end of this year.
It still made you think how disturbing Higurashi was tough, but that didn't stop the anime from being very interesting. :amazed
What really makes Higurashi that good is how it balances comedy and thriller. Just like in most arcs, we are fed with a lot of positivity at first, and when the disturbing scenes are shown, the impact is so big that we are usually left with WTF-expressions in our faces. :thumbs

You know, if everything was really "normal" in Higurashi, it would really be a harem anime. K1 is so damn lucky... :PBut that's what makes Higurashi so awesome. Personally, harem anime comes ever too often, it's nice to have a change in a series. Higurashi fills that gap pretty nicely. I mean, sure, it's got the girls, but that's not the point. These girls are mad, emotional, and murderously mysterious, as well as the sickly story itself. =D

I'm already at episode 16. This show is addicting. xD
Yup, it's VERY addicting, I have to say. I've been in "Higurashi mode" for months already... re-watching the anime and even reading the manga. Now all I need is to learn Japanese and buy the games. :spaz
So let me get this straight - Each question arc is like a parallel universe that goes with it's answer arc, right?
Well, you can say that a solution arc is "parallel" to its respective question arc.
Meakashi-hen (Episodes 16-21, and is the best arc in the show IMO) is a "parallel universe" to Watanagashi-hen (Episodes 5-8) since it's a retelling of the earlier arc in the eyes of Shion.
Tsumihoroboshi-hen (Episodes 22-26), on the other hand, isn't exactly a "parallel universe", but it is considered "parallel" to Onikakushi-hen (Episodes 1-4), since Rena is experiencing the same level of paranoia Keiichi had in the earlier arc.
The anime doesn't really end yet at Episode 26, since there are still two solution arcs left. And as I've been saying again and again, next year's second season will cover those two. :amuse

Just finished Episode 26.
So let me get this straight, that god-person creates clones where the main characters have to deal with gruesome situations and the only way to get out of it is to learn that friendship is the most important? -is lost-
Does the manga cover those final 2 solution arcs?

Different universes of themselves is more accurate I think.

I haven't played the game, nor tried reading stuff across the net (since I would like to solve the mystery myself with the resources that I have, namely the anime and the manga), and what I will say are just my two cents.
I think that the story resets every time a "bad end" (i.e., mystery is left "unsolved") is achieved. Not only events are reset, but also the memories of the characters of those previous events. Well, arcs may unintentionally aim certain characters to go over the edge or face disturbing and gruesome situations...
But notice that in Episode 25, Keiichi suddenly recalls the events of Onikakushi-hen...
The "infinity" sign in the series' logo, and what Rika-chan said at the credits of Episode 26 about "going through an endless June" may have something to do with this "event reset" theory.
Who knows, maybe "friendship" is also a factor of getting out of that loop. :)
Does the manga cover those final 2 solution arcs?
Sadly, not yet. :(
To be honest, I haven't seen the manga covers of Meakashi-hen and Tsumihoroboshi-hen either.

For what it's worth, if you finished the first four episodes then you should be able to handle the rest and you really have to if you want to appreciate what the series offers aside from brutality and psychosis. I will admit to have been a bit unsure myself about proceeding, but I couldn't resist and think that it was all worth it.

I actually had a lot of reactions when I started watching this series, but I ended up liking it. But of course, that's just me. Well, in case that after 26 episodes, you still find it "fucked-up" (in a negative way), I, for one, will respect that. :)

They say that if you check out the original PC game or even read the manga (which is supposed to be closer to the game), you will see that there were some necessary events that were not included in the anime, some of which are crucial in solving the mystery. That's why some say that the "anime pales in comparison to the original game".
But, even without knowledge of the game (like me), the anime is good by itself, and it delivers. :amuse
However, I've been reading scanlations of the Higurashi manga recently, and well, I can see the differences the anime had from the original. I guess that in order to satisfy my own curiosity, I still need to check out the original material.

Thanks. To be honest, I wanted to do a Satoko signature, but it's hard to find good fan art of her. There are so many of Rena, though, she'll be my signature for months.
I guess I'll have to find/read the manga, too, now, if there really is such a difference. I spoiled myself already, so I know the answer, but working backwards, as it is, allows me to focus on how they created the mystery. I've never really been able to write a mystery.

What I like most are the scenes when people laugh like fucking psychos and get that frightening facial expression. Combined with some creepy music it really is a different experience from what a manga can give you (dunno about the game, though)
But I'll watch the Anime first and then read the manga. I think most people will agree that the joy over new things(which will appear in the manga) is by far better than the disappointment over things that are left out(in the anime).

I'm not sure. It might've been the Heaven vs. Hell picture that was based off UBW.
HO HO HOLY SHIT Just finished watching the series.
And I didn't understand shit in the end! What was all that with the alternative worlds where different things happen? What was the real cause for the psycho thing? It's not really virusses or aliens, isn't it? -_-
And oishii inviting psychololi into the car at the end of episode 26 made me even more confused. Yet another world/timeline? :arg
Please say it is meant to be confusing and I will understand more when reading the manga.

That's why there's a second season. The anime never finished the whole series. There's still 2 more arcs left they have to show. For now read Wiki's Higurashi article. It helps a lot in understanding the story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higurashi_no_naku_koro_ni

Well, I know one thing. You can't hear Rena's "Ka na? Ka na?" or "USO DA!" in the manga, so...the anime does have it's advantages over the manga and PC game. P
You're forgetting Rena's "Hauuu! Kaiiiiiyo!!! Omochikaeri!!" :P
Or simply, Rena's cute voice - you don't hear that in the manga. And yeah, also the other awesome VAs in the anime as well.
Thanks. To be honest, I wanted to do a Satoko signature, but it's hard to find good fan art of her. There are so many of Rena, though, she'll be my signature for months.
Oh, the world doesn't have that much love for Satoko. All you can see are a lot of fanarts for Rena. The Sonozaki twins come in next. :amuse

Seriously, I haven't figured out the answers to those questions (considering that all I have is the anime and a few scanlations of the manga). You only know that all arcs are alternate worlds/retelling of the events of June 1983, from what Rika-chan said about an "endless June" when Oishi invited her into his car (I think that's the real purpose of that scene, and yes, that could be another alternate world). Whatever is causing people to go psycho, and what is causing this "alternate worlds" remains a mystery.
Who knows, Takano's theories may or may not be real... though I think it's the latter. :)
Well, most likely, we'll understand it when we read the manga or play the game, or as BakaOnna said, there's still Season 2 this year, that will hopefully give the series the resolution. I haven't read info about the last two solution arcs, since I don't want to be spoiling myself. :P

Of course, the whole doujin game dialogue was produced into the Drama CDs with the cast. And I believe the PS2 has the voicework as well. The original game may have not, but it had considerably great music.

LOL, didn't know Keiichi swings that way. Truly a master of conflict resolution, not a punch thrown.
And I wouldn't mind a dub, personally, it would be interesting to see how well they handled it and make a good experience for the voice actors/actresses and a fun project besides. More complex shows like this and exposure to it can only do the dub industry good.

Why the hell does Mion carries a gun + gun holster in plain sight and nobody says anything?
Yes, there hasn't been an explanation on why Mion is carrying a gun (and considering that she has NOT used it EVEN ONCE in the anime...).
Another question: Is that gun for real or not?
And another: Or better yet, does she have the right to carry one just because she's the next head of the Sonozaki Estate?
Well, I'm going to some other forum and do some asking there... :P
Wait, isn't it Shion with the gun?
Well, Shion also has a gun... whenever she disguises as Mion. But we all know that Shion prefers the hand taser as her weapon of choice. :P
-----
EDIT: I actually got an answer from another forum. He/she said that Mion is only carrying a toy gun.
I'm still not that convinced though. And besides, what purpose does she have on toting a toy gun around? To have a sense of superiority?
And to think that Keiichi defeated her in a water gun battle. :P

I always thought that it was a toy gun. Do they give out real guns to minors in Hinamizawa? But when you mention it it doesn't seem so strange becuse Hinamizawa is one very wierd town. xD

We all know that Oishi was just using Keiichi as bait to lure out the "enemy". Worse, Oishi unconciously fed Keiichi's paranoia by giving him too much information (isn't it weird that he entrusts a lot of confidential information to a 14-year-old boy?).
Oishi would definitely want to save Keiichi, but I guess he really wasn't expecting Keiichi to go haywire and kill himself. :P

I think I remember what we discussed about the English adaptation. Mostly the character's habitual sayings. And of course, "LIES" wouldn't sound very intimidating and frightening as "USO DA!"

The only way to make it sound "scary" for the English adaptation is if they make Rena cuss and say "THAT'S A FUCKING LIE!". For sure, this will be for Mature audiences.
And I don't know if they can make Rika sound as cute as the original.

Okay, so where the hell did they get it was April then? My gods, what shitmonkeys. T^T

I still don't see why they didn't just finish off the last two answer arc's before stopping the first series.
QBnoYouko
03-07-2007, 02:51 AM
Probably animation budget is one. The other being that Studio DEEN would not have time to work on the last answer arc since it was released later.
Only then would it be a ploy for the people that were left out of the blue to go and buy the games for themselves, giving 07th Expansion huge profits, and in turn, gives DEEN even more power and money to produce a second season with the last arcs.
Okay, perhaps that last paragraph was just a thought, but something like that.
Aethos
03-07-2007, 09:36 AM
I've heard in a couple places that these are the chapters the second season will cover
Saikoroshi-hen (Dice Killing Chapter)
Batsukoishi-hen (Penalty Loving Chapter)
Hirukowashi-hen (Daybreak Chapter)
So I guess we still don't get the last two answer arc's yet.
QBnoYouko
03-07-2007, 07:50 PM
If the second season has another 26 episodes again, I think it's possible we get the last two answer arcs. Mingoroshi-hen could be shown last since it covers almost every mysterious occurrence.

03-07-2007, 11:38 PM
Minagoroshi-hen and Matsuribayashi-hen are the arcs that MUST be included for Season 2. Enough said. Either that or we wage war against Studio DEEN. :P
And it sucks that ANN takes back that announcement about the premier of Season 2... :oh

The voice acting is excellent in that game and plus it just looks like a lot of fun to play. Here's the info on it.

and you'll enjoy the first link. I actually did even if there's no subs or anything to go by.
Meh also I can't decide who I want to be with Keiichi most Rena, Mion, or Shion... Personally I wouldn't mind all three hooking up with him. That way none of the others got left out. XD

Honestly, I feel like Keiichi, too. It's really hard to choose only one among Rena, Mion and Shion. :huh
Although, I would prefer Mion to end up with Keiichi. I don't know, maybe after seeing Keiichi hug her at Episode 25 (which, IMO, is the CUTEST scene in the series). :amuse
And besides, Mion is the least psycho among the three, or she didn't do any much psycho stuff in the series. I mean, after Meakashi-hen with Shion actually doing all of the things Mion supposedly did in Watanagashi-hen...

True I guess so... but I also felt that way about Rena's speech near the end of episode 26 where she said she wanted Keiichi to fill her life with joy and happiness and well seeing Shion with Keiichi is cute especially after her comparing him to Satoshi and all...
So if anything Keiichi should not be limited to one. He should have all three. :laugh

This is a new horror anime and so far it looks like it will be promising.
So far there has been released 4 raws and the first 2 has been subbed by Triad.
There are some other subbers too.
Here is a gif I made using episode 2
http://gruppesyv.be/Calundann/Axe.gif
I also extraced the opening song and converted it to mp3 (Hope its ok since its my first time doing it) :)
It will be distributed by Nipponsei on May 24th so this will have to do until then:
Opening song (http://gruppesyv.be/Calundann/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_OP1.rar)
Edit: Thought I might as well add some torrent links for the lazy people :)
It can also be downloaded on Narutofan if you have a plus account.

Well, I do admit that the manga doesn't scare as much as watching the anime, but the manga is the closest you can get to the true Higurashi story, as it is pretty much close to the original game storyline the anime is based from.

Well, I do admit that the manga doesn't scare as much as watching the anime, but the manga is the closest you can get to the true Higurashi story, as it is pretty much close to the original game storyline the anime is based from.
I posted this in the FC, but here are the club members killing each other doing their club activities by the beach... :amuse

I'm definitely sure there will be a trailer out soon. The CM will be as sick as the series itself. (sick in a good way, of course)

Actually, to ease the pain of waiting, I just watch a lot of Higurashi stuff on YouTube.
And I discovered this... :amuse

While I appreciate your effort linking that.. that is one of the worst AMVs I've ever seen lol... and Ive seen alot. Music was horrible and didnt match the scenes at all.. and there was no flow to the whole thing jsut completely random scenes. Booooo
Anyways, cant wait for season 2, I've read a fair amount of spoilers but damn trying to get some info out of those game players at animesuki is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

As a whole, yeah, it isn't exactly good. The author was like trying to do the same sequences in the Death Note OP with random Higurashi clips, although the first and last parts, I think they do fit.
