Oh boy. Just what we need. A fourth reality warper. When They Cry's gonna become reality chess. Not that I mind. The whole witches subplot has always been an interesting addition to me.

And while they're there we need to see Lamdadelta. Afterall, she and Frederica are the big kahunas of Higurashi.

And another thought while I'm here. Since Rika's the splitting image of Frederica and she's the main character, it'd be cool to have at least a saga where we see things from Takano's perspective. And we could see how her and Lamdadelta are connected.

Plot potential abound for this third season.

Anyway I recently finished watching the special, Higurashi no Naku Koro nil: Nekogoroshi-Hen. It wasn't anything spectacular, though, it was great to see the old gang in some new (new as in I haven't seen it before lol) content. The costumes were awesome, and for some reason I couldn't take my eyes off of Mion whenever she was on screen. :laugh

I've also picked up an episode of Higurashi season 1 dubbed with dual audio eng/jap (nose bleed much) DVD rip, the voices aren't too bad although no-one will ever outdo Mai Nakahara as Rena. :wtf

Btw, has anyone come across HiguKai OST Vol.2, it's been out for 2 months now and I can't find it anywhere. ><

There is a 2nd season already out, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai. It answers every question you had regarding season 1. It's the solution arc to season 1.

And in other stuff, apparently they manganized a drama CD. That's great since drama CDs seemed to be a neglected medium to translate.

They expand the storyline and adapt it to other mediums. That's what makes the series even better. But moreso than anything else, we need the PS2 arcs!

It's rare for an anime to make "the truth" a subjective and unapproachable topic like Higurashi, to move events around and make interpretation subject to psyche. Season two, on the other hand, was typical anime fare: neatly packaged plot, clear enemies, character depth reminiscent of a wading pool. Worst of all, the last few episodes practically became the Himizawa version of Home Alone. "I can't believe those dratted kids beat us grizzled mercenaries, proving the boundless power of friendship! What a heart-warming and fulfilling ending!"

I prefer psychological horror and mythology to detective mysteries, so maybe I'm not Kai's demographic. I think Oyashiro-sama was more attractive as a mystery than as a loli. And this comes from a guy who likes loli.

Yeah I agree, though I don't mind Hanyuu too much. She's too cute. I also thought it was a relatively creative way to twist the story. It went from a deity with a vengeance to a little girl and an evil nurse.. and many other theories in between.

The Home Alone thing couldn't be truer though.

Home Alone? Interesting analogy, but I see things different. I see it more as like Batman/Shikimaru/etc. Having full knowledge of the situation brings about great advantages that can be utilized rapidly. They knew their enemy all too well. I don't know if it's told, but it's certainly implied that they retain bits and pieces of memories from the past storylines. Build this up over time, and they finally have a chance at winning against the odds.

And as for my opinion, I love the way it ended (though not many people do). Here's how I see it: the very first storyline of Higurashi showed a completely distrustful and guilty atmosphere. And they weren't overcoming the odds that way. But as they progressively get further and further in the storyline, themes like trust, cooperation, and other positive themes get recognized. The ending is their ultimate way of showing the theme. Rather than beat the odds through violence, they instead be themselves, innocent and playful. Even though I don't agree with the theme in particular, the way it was executed was very well done IMO.

As for Hanyuu. Yeah Oyashiro was a big mystery, but whenever I think of Higurashi's mysteries, the first thing that comes to my mind isn't Oyashiro. It's Frederica, followed then Lamdadelta, Nomura, and that one person from the manga (don't remember her name or even if she had one). As the storyline progresses further, not everything can be kept under wraps for a long time. Higurashi's based around the idea of constant mystery. One question's answered and two more take its place usually. I'm glad they saved Hanyuu until around the end. Oyashiro was important to the plot, but if it ended with them having a final battle against Oyashiro or something along those lines, then the plot's a little too predictable.

My two cents I guess. But if you like mysteries, Umineko's still got a lot of them. And many people are talking about it so you'll definitely find your mystery there.

I'm not really surprised to hear another person say that he/she did not like Kai and liked the first season better.

I admit that the only reason I watched Kai is that I just want some answers. Well, I was able to accept the fact that the whole village mystery isn't exactly the obvious (which was more of the supernatural), but it's kinda surprising that it's actually a big government conspiracy. Not a lot of people buy that considering that they "enjoyed" the scares the first season had and were disappointed with what Kai shown.

Whoa, awesome, Higurashi on DS! Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna? On the official site I see they have the first three question arcs but what's the last one? Definitely not Himatsubushi-hen.

Hm... four games and the first one seems like it covers the first three question arcs and then the first two manga-only arcs. Correct me though if I'm wrong.

If they can fit five stories on one game, then I can imagine a lot more content down the road. Higurashi's got a little over twenty storylines total if you include all the plots (anime, manga, ps2, books, etc.). If the DS games go at that rate, they may either cover most of those plots, or create a lot of new ones.

Either way, I can't wait. I hope Atlus takes good care of these games and brings them to the States.

I hope they bring Umineko to a game console at well. Of course, with only two arcs it'll be a while.

Well, if the trailer of Kizuna is any indication, it looks like it's got Natsume's story and Mizuho's storyline, which weren't in Matsuri. I'm thinking they probably will add new stories for each new DS game at least.

I certainly didn't expect that the true end of Higurashi would come from the PS2 game, but since this is the future of Higurashi, it may even go past that. I'm definitely excited for it. Maybe they'll have a new ending saga that links all of the manga arcs, question arcs, and answer arcs together somehow. That'd be great.

Oh yeah. And on a separate note, onemanga now has all of the Higurashi manga up. So now both Higurashi and Umineko are viewable there finally.

Re-dub? I think most voices in Higurashi were good, with the except of Keiichi's VA who tends to sound very unnatural sometimes (although I can't think of any other guy voicing Keiichi except Hoshi).

If anything, I'd rather have a remake of the whole series done by another studio. Although I think I made peace with Studio DEEN and accepted it anyway. :)

Yeah, Hoshi sounds better doing a paranoid Keiichi than KOOL Keiichi. Or in other words, Keiichi sounded better in the first season than Kai, IMO. :)

You ever see those really good Higurashi cosplayers (especially the Rena one)? Why can't they replicate that? That'd be awesome. You can make green and red hair look good, it just takes a little bit of good fashion sense and some time.

Yes, there's no Umineko thread yet in the forums. A previous attempt has been made to discuss that in this thread, but due to a lot of drama (and a moderator intervention), it was discontinued (which was good, IMO).

If you're going to create one, you can opt for the manga and games, although for general Umineko stuff, I think the latter works since it's more updated than the manga. Although I don't think not a lot of people here are aware of Umineko.

Frederica gained 100 years or so from this conflict according to Umineko I believe. The Yamainu were anything but incompetant. Prep-time, determination, and nigh-omniscience were all required in order to win. Even after that, their troubles weren't over. They curbstomped some crazy individuals (in fact, I remember in one scene it randomly showed Rika all of a sudden becoming super powerful for some reason, and she seems to be the weakest of them).

As for Mion getting the spotlight in the last saga. She got a good moment, but then Hanyuu stole it from her. She shines in being a good leader, but she's never really gotten a saga dedicated to her or anything. The closest was Meakashi-hen, but it still wasn't enough to justify her, who is the leader of the group.

I'd also like to see a dumb spin-off with Tomitake as a super hero, just for shits and giggles. That would be most hilarious and awesome.

With still no news, it's hard to speculate what Season 3 will cover. They can create original arcs and I wouldn't mind that. Even if it's hilarious, although I don't think a lot would agree to that.

Doesn't like her? I've seen many who like her the least of the six, but I've only seen one person that actually hates her.

And as far as my comment early, Tomitake Flash should just be an OVA were I in charge. Just a little shitting around for one episode.

As for what I'd put in season three. I'd probably start with Rei first. Then I'd put in the first two manga arcs (third one if there was room). Then I'd finish up with the PS2-only arcs. All the while, I'd be adding little bits of Lamdadelta and more of Nomura.

For fourth season and beyond (yes, I'm fairly confident that a fourth season is possible, especially considering how much time they got until an Umineko adaptation is possible), I'd probably use DS-only arcs (assuming they exist) and then follow up and conclude with original storylines that tie up every storyline shown thus far. Especially at the end, I'd like some uber connections with Umineko. Then when the Umineko anime comes around, people will be pumped for it (hopefully).

One thing about the manga that's very inaccurate... Maria's a brat. I mean, like if your annoying little brother became a hollow, began eating other hollows and eventually became a vasto lorde menos grande.

To those who haven't watched Bleach... she's annoying on a high level. But the manga makes her look so damn cute and fun to be with. She's definitely not that.

But yeah... the manga's awesome. So far, their version of Maria's my second favorite character (first favorite should be obvious... ...Battler).

And I finally got around to doing the Ep 2: Turn of the Golden Witch. The beginning starts off slightly boring, but by the first chapter, crap's already happened, unlike Legend of the Golden Witch. I miss Battler as the main character, but the increased quality of early storyline more than makes up for it (that, and and less talking about people's heights and names).

After I'm done with Turn of the Golden Witch, if my friend can translate as he says, I'm gonna start Higurashi from the beginning and see all they took out. If the manga was any indication, they probably took out whole scenes. But now I'll get to see the most detailed version (bar maybe the PS2 game if they reworked the story).

It'll be interesting to see the unrealistic Higurashi characters portrayed. Umineko's were quirky, but mostly realistic in their quirks. Higurashi's... got Rena and Satoko. Seeing that in narrative form should be utterly priceless.

After finishing up Umineko episode 2, I'm very convinced that Umineko's a sequal to Higurashi. Not in the conventional sense; the world that Umineko exists in is different than Higurashi's. A cameo would be if Battler's reference to the novel, "Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni," were the only thing they ever mention. But that's not the only time they mention it. They mention throat scratching, Oyashiro, and in the hidden tea parties, the actual storyline of Higurashi itself. In episode 1, it seemed like a cameo while in episode 2, it seemingly got slight prominence. Hopefully by episode 3, we'll see even more connections.

I have a sort of theory. During the Hidden Tea Parties, Frederica and Lamdadelta are seen talking to a person addressed as "you." Most people's reactions would be that "you" would be referring to the player. However, I believe Lamdadelta mentioned that "you" are a part of Frederica but got separate, or something along those lines.

Who fits that idea perfectly? Rika. At least, that's my hope. It'd be really cool if we get to see a 3 years older Rika that went through a different situation in Hinamizawa than what we saw in Higurashi. At least, that's my hope so it's no guarentee.

I'm working on getting Higurashi Matsuri. Unfortunately, I'll need swap magic for my PS2 as well as... Japanese lessons (though for most major otaku, it's inevitable). But it'll be worth it IMO. Matsuri's my most wanted When They Cry product (before Kizuna comes out), and, depending on how well I learn it, I'll be able to import games before they have to be translated.

Probably not for a while though... learning a language takes hellalong and I've got some other things to do for school so that'll be even longer...

Typically, they have more scenes than the anime does.

I'm sure that it still doesn't cover nearly all of the scenes the visual novel does. At least, if Umineko's manga is any indication of what the Higurashi manga's doing. The 3 chapters of Umineko went through like 6 chapters of the visual novel and removed a ton of stuff and even changed the order of events. I assume it's the same for Higurashi.

The only way to get the entire content of the visual novels is to learn Japanese and get Kizuna, Matsuri, and Rei. That should cover everything Higurashi (next to dumb stuff like Nekogoroshi-hen: the light novel...). But who knows? Atlus may translate Kizuna, though I wouldn't hold my breath for it to happen.

Here's the downside to the manga though... Almost none of the sagas are done. Would you believe even Onikakushi-hen, the first saga, still isn't fully translated yet? (I don't even know if it's even done in Japan).

The only sagas completed in the manga are two of the manga-only ones. So yeah it's good, but there's no ending... yet.

The official website of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni anime has announced that the sequel to the live-action Higurashi film is already in the works — even though the first live-action film will not open until May 10. Like the anime adaptation, the films adapt 07th Expansion's Higurashi no Naku Koro ni mystery visual novels about murders that coincide with an annual festival in a quiet rural village. Ataru Oikawa (Tomie) directed the first film, and Kenji Kawai (live-action Death Note, Ghost in the Shell) composed the music. Can't agree. The way they threw her into the storyline made it seem as if they were foreshadowing an aspect of season 3. And IMO, if there's no good villain, the plot will feel too directionless.

The June issue (released on April 30) of Gakken's Megami Magazine has revealed that the previously announced third Higurashi no Naku Koroni anime season is tentatively titled Higurashi no Naku Koroni Rei and planned as an original video anime series. Higurashi no Naku Koroni Rei was the name of a 2006 software fan disc that included two story chapters based on the original murder mystery visual novels, but it is not necessarily the basis for the third anime project's plot. The producers are still determining the final release schedule, but plan to preview some footage this year.

The two previous anime seasons were broadcasted on Japanese television. Geneon Entertainment released part of the first season in North America in 2007 before it ceased in-house production and distribution of anime. The first live-action film adaptation opens on May 10, and a film sequel is already in the works.

I'd prefer a longer series rather than an OVA. OVAs mean higher quality animation, though, the animation was never the key factor that kept me hooked to this series. :(

It wasn't obvious it was a link... But as for if it's two games a year... it's always been two games a year. It's every comiket, and comiket's biyearly usually.

We're also getting Kizuna Tatari. I wouldn't doubt they can bring out a second one by the end of the year.

As for actual games, there'll be Higurashi Daybreak for the PSP.

So that's at least four this year.

As for manga... Onikakushi, Watanagashi, Tatarigoroshi, Himatsubushi, Oni Sarashi, Utsutsukowashi, Yoigoshi. I believe that's the correct order of reading. I know I at least got the first four right.

As for the patch, thanks for the update! I already played Umineko and used the script, but this is even better! I'll definitely play it a second time (I was going to anyways, patch or not).
