Japan is not very good at making live action movies or anything, the states would make a really good one though just like how the new dragonball looks like it will be decent.

Japan has done good live action movies and TV series based on manga. GTO live action TV series, Dragon Zakura, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (very funny series), Battle Royale, Ichi the Killer and a crapload of others have been very good.

Plus a live action version of Higurashi wouldn't exactly acquire a huge budget or CG at all.

There's a Japanese live action TV show show called Galileo has a good mix of having a dark tone like when it gets in Higurashi and be funny/light hearted at times as well.

There was nothing much in Nekogoroshi-hen, but yeah, if Ryukishi07-san can write another great arc such as Yakusamashi-hen, it would definitely be nice. Or maybe, Season 3 could go back to the roots with arcs that have the same feel as Season 1's. But then again, it won't be much of a surprise since we know everything now.

If violent arcs are included in Season 3, then we can hope that no stupid Eleven would hack another Eleven that would cause delay, and probably a cancellation. :zaru

That's your opinion. To me, Kai wasn't all that fail and crap. Sure, first season was much more scarier than two but you know what? Higurashi wasn't just all about that. Season two revealed and filled in on what we didn't know or find out about in season one. There wasn't really need to make Kai bloodier since the job of season two is mostly about telling us what and how the hell all those things happened back in season one. The last arc was pretty intense for me, I thought Rika and Hanyuu was somehow gonna screw up and have Takano win again until Akasaka showed up no, actually until I got spoiled in Animesuki xDD.

The only think I didn't really like Kai was the opening song, the song is good but somehow doesn't fit compared to season one's song. :lmao

I'll quote a post of mine from myanimelist.

Even though the first six arcs were darker and more violent, in the first season DEEN focused mostly on the suspense. In the visual novels, the slice of life stuff is longer and there's a lot more character development. DEEN skipped a lot of the mystery and character details to make room for the suspenseful moments. Not to mention they tried to cram 6 arcs into 26 episodes. All the arcs needed to be one or two episodes longer. Many scenes were skipped The manga is a good example of this, which is a much better adaptation.

So the last two arcs and the first six aren't as black and white as the anime makes them look. Higurashi has always been like: 25% mystery, 15% slice of life, 5% comedy, 20% horror, 35% drama

Short version: Higurashi was never about the violence and if you think it was because of season one then you have Studio DEEN to blame.

In case you haven't heard, there's a third season by next year. So it's not really over.

But the main storyline ended with Kai's finale. In another sense, it is over.

Point is, whether Higurashi is over or not is ultimately up to you.

My advice as a resident of this thread is that if you don't like Higurashi after five episodes, then you can stop from there. And when you get to the second season, discard everything you know about the dynamics of the first season since it's totally different.

I don't know what's a spoiler and what's not, but I have a question that wasn't answered by the end of season 2:
When Keiichi kills Satoko's uncle with his baseball bat, then burries the body, he goes back and the body is gone. He thinks he's still alive and walking around. I figured this would be answered later on, but it wasn't. The closest we came was in season 2, when Rena kills (I forget who) either Satoko's uncle, or her stepmom or that other guy, she burries the body, and later we find out Mion moves it to protect her. Yes, exactly. When Keiichi set out his plan to kill Teppei, he asked "Mion" to take care of Satoko during the festival, while it was actually Shion that he talked to. Shion already knows what Keiichi is plotting since Satoshi did it years ago. Shion probably told Mion about it.

It was basically aimed at protecting Keiichi from not getting caught for doing the crime. Although as seen in Tatarigoroshi-hen, it actually added to Keiichi's paranoia.

We can infer (based on the information given in Tsumoboroshi-hen, that Mion moved the body. Everyone else simply created an alibi for Keiichi to protect him. He was so paranoid and was suffering from Hinamizawa Syndrome already, which is why he didn't understand that.

And the uncle was killed. Sakoto was also suffering from a high level of Hinamizawa Syndrome at that time, so she thought that her uncle was still alive.

Kai finished the original storyline. Onikakushi-Matsuribayashi are the original games. Thanks to the sales, Ryukishi07 (creator of Higurashi) made Saikoroshi, an epilogue to Matsuribayashi. Three original arcs were also made for the PS2 game Matsuri. One of them is an alternative ending since Matsuribayashi wasn't well received; Everything goes Rika's way too easily in Matsuribayashi and she wins without much of a struggle. The alternative ending: Miotsukushi fixes that. The comparision to GT isn't right because Ryukishi07 wrote all these extra arcs. GT was not done by Akira Toriyama. Hell, Akira wanted to end DBZ several times (end of Frieza and end of Cell) but Toei forced him to continue from the popularity.

Sorry I was away so long. I strained a muscle in my back christmas eve and by the day after christmas it was bad enough that I actually had to go to the emegency room (thank goodness it wasn't due to lactosintolerance) so I was out recovering for a while since I pretty much couldn't move at all. Much less sit at the computer.

But it's nice to be back. Happy New Years eve everyone.
