No idea. Since Higurashi airs in UHF, there are no rating reports. It probably has okay ratings. But DVD sales are what truly matters. Stuff like Gurren Lagann and Lucky Star have low ratings but insane DVD sales.

A big change between the PC games and Matsuri is that Matsuri has choices. In the PC games, there are no different paths. In Matsuri the choices you pick decide which arc you enter. For example, if you're really nice to Satoko and ignore the others, you'll enter Tatarigoroshi.

Matsuri's extra arcs

Taraimawashi-hen (盥回し編 Whirligig Chapter?)
At first glance, this additional "Question Arc" is a retelling of Onikakushi-hen. However, this chapter in fact contains the events of Watanagashi-hen. After learning the secrets of Hinamizawa, Keiichi decides to ignore everything and enjoy his peaceful school life; this action leads to a tragic series of events. Shion Sonozaki is the villain of this chapter, while Mion becomes the victim.

Tsukiotoshi-hen (憑落し編 Exorcism Chapter?)
Although Tsukiotoshi-hen does not provide many answers, per se, since it relates what went wrong in Watanagashi/Meakashi-hen and Tatarigoroshi-hen, it is still considered an Answer Arc. In order to save Satoko, Shion, Keiichi and Rena decide to kill Teppei. But after the murder is done, Rena starts to act strangely, and Keiichi thinks he hears Oyashiro talking to him.

Miotsukushi-hen (澪尽し編 Canal Drying Chapter?)
The chapter name "Miotsukushi" is a pun of Mio-tsu-kushi (or traditionally Miwo-tsu-kushi) (澪標 canal sign?) and Mi wo tsukushi (身を尽(く)し?), a conjugation form of Mi wo tsukusu (身を尽くす serve one's body?). This pun is very famous in Japanese poetry such as Haiku.
After finding out who the real murderer is, Rika and Keiichi decide to put an end to the whole mystery, but they are in a different situation than Matsuribayashi-hen. Before they can do anything, they have to solve other people's problems first. The problems of Watanagashi/Meakashi-hen, Tatarigoroshi-hen, and Tsumihoroboshi-hen are met here and all of them must be solved. While Matsuribayashi-hen is the epilogue of PC-port games, it is considered to be the "Good End" of the series. According to the original author, Miotsukushi-hen should be considered the true end of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

The girl strangely thought why would this strange woman know such a thing.

She calls the woman who tries to leave to a halt.

If this is the answer she gave to her "I want to live",... it is a bit strange but, with her childish innocence, she was curious to know what would be the answer she would get if her answer was the other option.


「Then, what if I'd like to die?」

「Whatever happens, my father and my mother will be with me.」

..........And then, ......the train, .......approaches a very very big,.... and ver very steep,...curve.

In that narrow space, moans can be heard....

They open the lock and turn on the lights inside the completely dark house,... after the girl placed the load in the entrance, she rushed to her room.

And then, ...... she opens the drawer of the writing desk, .... and takes what she had put inside her pocket.

......She opens the closed drawer a bit more and spreads all those flags,.... on top of the folded clothes.

Those were flags of the child lunch, .... that were copies of flags of many countries.

The Japanese flag, America, England, and, eerh, where is this one from...

This three coloured flag is hard to identify...

After that, she lines them up in order to count them.

And then, she placed them while counting with her mouth.　

And then, the girl begins to dance happily.　

Because she gathered 20 flags like she desired.　

How much time did it take for her to gather these?　

The girl had big hardships to surmount that and for a short while she jumped in delight for her great achievement.

Since she had lots of trouble to gather these, certainly, there might be something good in it.　

If you gather 20 flags, you will certainly be able to be happy, so said the prayer.

So, she is sure that from now on something wonderful will happen...

The girl waits excited but,... the magical light doesn't appear and it's not that any devil appeared and granted her something.

Both Akasaka and Jiro were pretty bold for going back there. I mean they we're scott free and even managed to mobilize that elite fighting unit but I guess when your friends are in danger you're just compelled to go help, but I'm guessing Takano was the one who benefited most from that decision.

Okay Marth, confirm whether this or not is really true. It probably is (since it's explained many times by people from Animesuki), but I don't want to believe it.

Frederica Bernkastel is a "witch" that is playing a game with another "witch" who is called Lambdadelta. Since Rika was able to beat Takano. Bernkastel started another game with Lambdadelta by setting up a "Sinless World" to keep the both of them from getting bored.

Bernkastel really only thinks of Keiichi and the rest as pieces that she created for her game with Lambdadelta.

Rika's Dark side could be called Furederika Bernkastel which is the collected conscious of all the Rikas from the 100 years of world resets

In simple terms Frederica Bernkastel/LambaDelta/Beatrice are basically just the "creators"

When you come right down to it, she was nothing more but a lonely, confused, and misguided woman who was simply being used as a tool to further the goals of some faceless political faction.

Sure, she had the village wiped out a couple hundred times or so during the course of the story, but it was only because she was manipulated into believing that would somehow help her grandfather's research become accepted as true. The fact that not only didn't happen, but everything was completely covered up and buried by the government means she failed. She lost. Not only that, but it's not a stretch to think that as a part of the cover-up, she was probably killed as well. Considering she had already faked her own death by that point, no one would notice if she died for real.

So, in the end, even when Takano thought she won, she really lost. And not just a little, she lost so hard that she only served to do the complete opposite of what she set out to do. Hinamizawa syndrome, the disaster, all of it would never see the light of day. Her grandfather's name would reside in an even greater level of obscurity than when he died.

When you say "live action movies" do you mean live action adaptations of anime series, or any movie that was shot with a camera and a bunch of actors?


If you mean the second, I'm afraid you have a gigantic hole in your knowledge of Japanese movie making. Some of the most amazing films I've ever seen came out of Japan, and I'm not even starting to talk about Takeshi Kitano's movies.

If you're referring to adaptations from anime to LA, well, I don't recall Hollywood doing any better, except at Transformers. (I'm not counting here Comic ataptations, since those are bound to be awesome) Moreover, western movie makers seem to prefer doing bad video game adaptations rather than cartoon ones, since, well, in the west cartoons don't have much popularity.

End of Yakusamashi-hen. Great Hinamizawa Disaster episode is simply awesome, especially the end when Ooishi gets close to the truth, only to get fucked.
How many times has it been that the two of us have agreed to this? :P

But then again, it's the truth. The end of Yakusamashi-hen is definitely the best episode of HiguKai - heck, even the best episode in all of Higurashi ever. It was the only episode in HiguKai that made me go "WTF NOOOES". Simply emotional and heart-wrenching, that it even made me feel so sorry for my least favorite character, which is Satoko.

And even though Christmas has already passed in our place, I'm joining the greeting bandwagon... Merry Christmas, fellow villagers! :whoo
