MKV are SOFTSUBS with the advantage you can turn the subtitles off and you can actually remove the subtitles, Mkv also encod faster. the term harsub was always used for files where you can't remove or turn off the subtitles. Avi, Mp4 and RMVB are containers that require hardsubs, Mkv is the only container that allow for softsubs[not sure if ogg allowed softsubs as nobody use it anymore].

I have seen a few mkv files without the ass track and the subtitles encode within the video stream, but you actually need to created a hardsub stream and then change it to mkv container.

yes, Mkv is just a container. As long as you have the codec that the mkv file uses and your system is set up to play mkv files it doesn't matter if it is on a DVD, CD eternal hardrive etc.

I'm kinda lazy right now so I'll just be posting stuff about 22 from another forum I belong to. I presume that some people here have seen this post. :P

A lot has been said about Akasaka's GAR moment in this episode, so I won't be talking about that anymore.

Anyway, it's been a long time since I dished out a 10/10 rating for a HiguKai episode (last time it was Episode 13), and this episode deserves such a rating. Not only because of what was mentioned earlier, but because there was tension all around the episode, only this time, nobody died. I really felt that Casey and friends was really placed in really deep crap. And oh, Satoshi's alive. What a surprise.

My only beef is that animation seemed to be on the low side.

Best line in the episode goes to Rika-chama, saying that she'll live on and grow taller and have big breasts. I guess she really doesn't want to lose to Mion as suggested by that DVD extra. :lmao

I didn't think the episode was that great :( Didn't seem as realistic as the other ones and that's my number 1 pet-peeve ~when anime's aren't consistent in their realism factor.

The fact the Yamainu suddenly didn't have guns and ended up being complete pussies was pretty ridiculous. Sometimes they seem unstoppable and other times they are serious pushovers. That's pretty lame. You have to be able to take them seriously to get any emotional effect from it :/

Dialog wasn't that great and the animation wasn't well done either. I hate to be a downer but I was pretty disappointed.

Teamwork was really key in this episode. I was wondering what they were going to do when Shion was apparently caught. Pretty good thinking by Hanyuu and Rika and even better timing by Akasaka xD

You belittle Akasaka. Yamainu are only pussies when they're up against someone as strong as him. As for not using guns. There's several reasons. 1) they could acidentally hit Rika 2) Gunshots would be too loud. Remember they could only use explosions during the fireworks. 3) They underestimated Akasaka. When one guy challenges an entire group of people, you wouldn't think you need guns.

If you really believe everything is as "unrealistic" as it is, you should read this (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=750889&postcount=53) to know just how good at martial arts Akasaka is. Akasaka's able to get into a criminal organization, basically beat the crap outta everyone there, and still leave unscathed. Akasaka is really committed to Rika's case, especially in this last arc.

And if you're expecting good animation from Higurashi, then... :oh Higurashi is infamous for its QUALITY animation. It's never had much of a budget, animatino wise.

Anyway, I thought this episode was on par with ep. 5 and 13 in terms of awesomeness. The feeling and tension was done perfectly without being over-the-top. I really felt a rush of desperation when the others were all trapped inside the hole. And Takano's smug smirk and evil laughter is making me hate her more and more. Akaksaka totally owned.

I gotta add, DEEN is totally supporting MionXKeiichi.

Himatsubushi was 5 years ago. Akasaka did some serious training since then. Makes sense since how useless he was during during it. That would motivate him to train harder so he's more useful the next time.

Hanyuu was probably introduced to her when Mion explained the situation to Shion off screen after she whined about not knowing what was going on. It's not relevant and it wouldn't be wise to waste precious time animating it.

I just think the Yamainu could've pulled out guns and stopped him in his tracks instead of charging wrecklessly. I agree he was utterly awesome when he crushed those guys though. Your realism points are taken as well ~that helps make the scene a little better in my mind.

IMO, it wasn't on par with episode 5 and 13 but pretty good overall.

When Kai is over, someone should make a huge torrent batch with all 50 episodes. I'd do it but this computer doesn't have enough space. The old Ayu batch for 1-26 is old and has very few seeds and it's a pain to download the episodes individually. A complete batch would make it a lot less troublesome for a newcomer to watch the series.

All the way up to the third DVD which has the 15th episode on it. It's titled "When They Cry" which is a pretty good title...Not surprising though since it does have the words "When They Cry" in the Japanese title.

I didn't have enough money though. :( Hopefully I'll be able to go soon and get the DVDs or get them off netflix...The front covers are in a black and white style, and the first one had Mion and Rena on it.

Have you heard the dub voices? Heck those DVDs aren't even worth buying. Wait until they get re-dubbed or something by a better company. Hopefully someone will pick up Higurashi after Geneon's screw up.

lol. Those have been out for a while xD The dubbing sucks from what I've seen but they of course have the Japanese audio too ...so it'd be worth a buy.

I'd wait for a boxset but considering the 4th dvd is in limbo, who knows how long we'll have to wait for that :/

The mountain traps were pretty simple and yet effective. But the parts with the logs rolling seemed horribly animated. The logs and the guy pinned beneath one of them kept rolling even though that would by physically impossible xDD
If I were that army I'd be personally embarrassed that I'm getting my ass handed to me by a bunch of children.

I really enjoyed Kasai's reward for that guy who turned off the alarm system :hehee

And Satoshi's pretty much in the state I expected one in his condition to be in but as long as there's a chance then hope will always be alive.

I just watched episode 23 on veoh. I loved it. GAR Kasai is GAR. I can't wait until tomorrow for the last episode. Though I saw this posted as a comment.

First season was original and GREAT! But Second season... Its hard to watch it. I dont know why - but from bloody and inteligent anime, it changed to cute no-blood anime for kids. Plot sux. Every episode rica says: WE CAN DO IT! After 20 minutes she says: WE CANT FIGHT WITH FATE!... God please! Who wrote this script?!

Obviously morons just can't seem to understand that both seasons form one big story.
