It's true. That act of selflessness is probably why she became a deity.

Hanyuu was born hundreds of years ago as a miko with vast spiritual power but she was hated and feared as a demon as she had horns on her head.

In time she had a daughter named Ouka, who is regarded as the first of the Furude's, though in actuality Hanyuu is.

Hanyuu chose to take on all the sins of the villagers herself.

Having done so, she had her daughter kill her with the Onigari no ryuoh, thus purifying the village. This is the basis for the watanagashi, cleansing of sins, and beginning of the oyashiro religion.

Through her sacrifice, Hanyuu herself became the minor deity who watched over the area. In the past her powers were greater and the deeds she did contributed to the legend and worship of Oyashiro-sama (who is Hanyuu).

In time her powers faded until even the Furude's could no longer see her, nor did they really believe in her either.

Until the 8th successive female heir was born. The one who would be her reincarnation.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni takes place during June 1983, in village called Hinamizawa. The main character, Keiichi Maebara, moves to Hinamizawa and befriends his new classmates Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Hojo. Keiichi joins their after-school club activities, which consist mostly of card and board games. Hinamizawa appears to be a normal, peaceful, rural village to Keiichi. However, the tranquility abruptly ends after the annual Watanagashi Festival, a celebration to commemorate and give thanks to the local god, Oyashiro-sama. Keiichi learns that for the past four years, one person has been murdered and another has gone missing on the day of the Watanagashi Festival. Keiichi himself soon becomes implicated into the strange events surrounding the Watanagashi Festival and Oyashiro-sama.

Higurashi is a drama, horror and mystery. The horror aspect can be misleading though. It doesn't have a lot of gore and blood. It's not extremely graphic like Elfen Lied, so if you have a weak stomach you don't have to worry about that. Higurashi is more psychological than anything. Many people overlook this anime and makes me sad to see that. It's one of the best you'll find. If you haven't watched it then I strongly recommend you do. By the end of episode 4 you should be hooked.

For once, I think the Higurashi girls will get more fake votes than their opponents. Higurashi's been having a rather low fake vote count in all of their matches thus far, but I don't think that'll be the case this time. Rena's probably gotten quite an amount of unwanted attention, which is why I think Rika would actually have a better chance of winning, especially if Rena loses.

The game itself takes up 4.5 gigabytes, and the CDs take up another 5.5 gigabytes (but you don't need them after installing it.)

A disease was affecting her and she was manipulated by someone else. Even still, she only killed two people; Two scub bags that deserved death. She eventually snaps out of it and realizes her wrong doings.

The crazy Rena Keiichi saw in the first arc was not real. It was all an hallucination on Keiichi's part. Rena was actually trying to help him. But the disease made him perceive everything differently.

Saimoe only accepts the Japanese "@" which is smaller than ours. Even though I copy the Japanese "@", when it's posted on an English site it changes it to the English version. Meaning it's quite possible a lot of our votes have been invalid. The same thing applies for 4chan. If this is true then our all vote threads on /a/, here and everywhere else have been for nothing.

There are multiple ways to vote and excluding the series name is one of them. I think from now on we'll do it that way

The tournament sure has been unpredictable, as they say, and this is proof.

Well, it's funny that there are lots of conspiracy theories on why Rena lost. There's the revenge voting, and there's the lesser support from the Higurashi faction (they say that 1200 votes is just too less for Rena's cause), and there's the one where a certain faction ditched out Rena after defeating the strong enemies.

If you ask me, I don't really mind the results. Although it's going to be hard for Rika to win it all even if she makes it to the finals.

The only advice I can give you is to watch at least till episode 4, if you still don't like this show then just drop it. I wanted to drop Higurashi after the first episode too, but my anime rule is to watch the first 3 episodes of any anime. I'm glad I didn't drop it. :nod
