I know the episode was necessary for the people that want to know why Takano did what she did, but I really don't care much about it. It seems they finish her story next episode. Hopefully only half of the episode! I already know she is crazy in all the timelines so it doesn't matter! they might be trying to get people to sympathize with her.

Meakashi is my favorite in season one. It starts on episode 16

All characters have the same personality at the start of every arc. Different actions occur that causes them to act differently.

Yes, it was true. Obviously, these boys went a little too far and pushed her to her breaking point. It's also why the boys didn't press any charges against her when she batted them, since it was originally their faults.

Dang, Kei's past is pretty long. Here's the long, detailed version (that the anime failed to explain/show): Not entirely a TIPS, but was cut off from the anime. This is Keiichi's past in which he told to Mion, Satoko, and Rika:

So once the teachers stopped praising me, I began to lose interest in life.

Back then, my parents would give me allowance based on my grades. Because of this, I had tremendous cash in my pocket even for kids at my age.

...I don't know if it I enjoyed this from the start or I was just lashing out my feelings and anger towards something else, but it was around that time that I began to get interested in model guns.

Shooting at cardboard boxes was fun and all. At least shooting an inanimate cardboard box still fell under morality. It could be deemed as relieving stress by shoving my anger towards a cardboard box.

But I quickly began to yearn to do something that would get me into deep ****.

So when I read the warning label on the model gun that read "Please do not shoot at people," I immediately wanted to start shooting at people. Why did I do something that people shouldn't do? That itself explained how primitive and childish I was at the time.

It was sort of a reactionory antipathy towards my parents who constantly bickered me to go to secondary school even when I have lost all interest in studying. If I hated it, all I had to do was say it straight to my parents that I hated studying. ...But as a little twerp that I am, I had no guts to go up against my parents.

I opened the door to my internal brutality by objecting my anger through shooting at kids younger than me.

Oh, what a thrill it was. The sweet sensation of what deep **** I'm doing with my own hands. Of course, I had nothing against the victims that I shot at. If there was no one around, that set the ground for my next victim.

I had no intention of hurting them. I felt joy at just hitting a person one or two rounds from far away. But there was this one girl who didn't realize anything even when I shot at her. It was probably because the pellet was striking where she had more clothes on or something. ...I began to get pissed so I started shooting her with more and more bullets until she realized she was getting shot at. It immediately escalated into peltering her with multiple rounds of pellets.

'I did an extremely good thing by studying really hard. So, I can also do a very bad thing on the same level to cancel that out. That creates an equilibrium balance.' That was the type of unbelievably self-centered mindset that went through me to justify my stupid action.

'I've been through all this **** and kept it all inside me. What I'm doing is my given right. So, a person who has no **** going through their lives like me are allowed to get shot and injured.'

...How selfish, conceited, and childish!

****, all this anger is starting to weld up inside me towards myself as I say this from my mouth. If I was there at that time now, I would immediately jump and kick my own ass with enough strength to break several molars out of my mouth.

The incident became known escalated into what was known as a serial child assualt case. I had this ugly smirk as I listened to the principal warning the students about these incidents in his morning address.

In the pamphlet handed out by the PTA, it outlined that students should keep a sharp eye on their school routes. As time progressed, adults began to volunteer to do a neighborhood watch during after school and students were to walk home together in groups.

As the **** I was doing began to balloon into something larger, I began to remember the similar catharsis that I felt when my grades began to climb. You can say I was hooked in this 'game.' I didn't even for once think I was gonna get caught, nor did I have the intention of quitting it at a certain point either.

One fateful day.

...I saw this little girl alone in a narrow and dark street all by herself. A very little kid. ...Was she going to her friend's house, or was she going to the store to help on her chores? I didn't give a damn.

'It's all plastered everywhere in the school that kids shouldn't be outside by themselves. How careless of her, and she deserves it - it's all her fault.'

With the same selfish quibbling...I assaulted her.

She realized that she was being attacked as I shot several rounds into her back. It's obvious that a person would turn around and see if one was being attacked from the behind.

I was used to showering my victims with pellets so I continued to fire rounds at her even as she turned her head towards me.

A normal kid would run away screaming "ouch ouch!"

But her reaction was a first for me....




She was screaming at the top of her lungs, rolling on the ground back and forth as she covered one of her eyes...

That was when it hit me.

It struck her in the eye.

Until that exact moment, I did not for once think what would happen if these BB pellets strikes a person into their eyes. It easily penetrates a thick cardboard box...

In any case, the way she was hurting was not what I had expected. It was right then and there I finally realized that what I have been doing a horrific thing.

The little girl saw me, so I couldn't take her to the hospital as that would jeopardize me. I couldn't do anything....so I left the crying girl all by herself and ran away from the scene.

'Was the girl okay, I hope she didn't go blind...'

I didn't have the appetite to eat dinner as all these thoughts went through my head.

At home, I took a household medical book from the bookcase and read through how the eye functions. I read it to try to ease myself to what extent an injury to the eye will not cause permanent blindness. It was a vain act obviously as even if the little girl did not lose her sight, it was still a very brutal assault.

...That night, I couldn't sleep as I broke a high fever. The first one to hand down my punishment was not my parents, the school, or the police. ...It was my own body.

Early next morning....I woke my parents who were still in bed and confessed everything. My parents were at first in shock in disbelief, but once they placed the pieces together of my sudden interest in model guns and rebellious attitude, they realized the matter immediately.

My mom began to cry and my dad beat the **** out of me.

We didn't wait for dawn to break. I went with my parents to the nearest police station...and turned myself in."

Yeah... the anime left out a lot of details about his past. I'm hoping they'll touch a bit more on it in Pieces of Matsuribayashi-hen.

Once I reached that feeling, I suddenly lost the interest in studying all together.

That's right. I was just a spoiled bastard who wanted to be praised by everyone for being able to do something better than anyone else. ...Hence, I did all of my summer homework on time and I volunteered to help cleanup afterschool just so I can get praise from the teachers.

So once the teachers stopped praising me, I began to lose interest in life.

Back then, my parents would give me allowance based on my grades. Because of this, I had tremendous cash in my pocket even for kids at my age.

...I don't know if it I enjoyed this from the start or I was just lashing out my feelings and anger towards something else, but it was around that time that I began to get interested in model guns.

Shooting at cardboard boxes was fun and all. At least shooting an inanimate cardboard box still fell under morality. It could be deemed as relieving stress by shoving my anger towards a cardboard box.

But I quickly began to yearn to do something that would get me into deep shit.

So when I read the warning label on the model gun that read "Please do not shoot at people," I immediately wanted to start shooting at people. Why did I do something that people shouldn't do? That itself explained how primitive and childish I was at the time.

It was sort of a reactionory antipathy towards my parents who constantly bickered me to go to secondary school even when I have lost all interest in studying. If I hated it, all I had to do was say it straight to my parents that I hated studying. ...But as a little twerp that I am, I had no guts to go up against my parents.

I opened the door to my internal brutality by objecting my anger through shooting at kids younger than me.

Oh, what a thrill it was. The sweet sensation of what deep shit I'm doing with my own hands. Of course, I had nothing against the victims that I shot at. If there was no one around, that set the ground for my next victim.

I had no intention of hurting them. I felt joy at just hitting a person one or two rounds from far away. But there was this one girl who didn't realize anything even when I shot at her. It was probably because the pellet was striking where she had more clothes on or something. ...I began to get pissed so I started shooting her with more and more bullets until she realized she was getting shot at. It immediately escalated into peltering her with multiple rounds of pellets.

'I did an extremely good thing by studying really hard. So, I can also do a very bad thing on the same level to cancel that out. That creates an equilibrium balance.' That was the type of unbelievably self-centered mindset that went through me to justify my stupid action.

'I've been through all this shit and kept it all inside me. What I'm doing is my given right. So, a person who has no shit going through their lives like me are allowed to get shot and injured.'

...How selfish, conceited, and childish!

Fuck, all this anger is starting to weld up inside me towards myself as I say this from my mouth. If I was there at that time now, I would immediately jump and kick my own ass with enough strength to break several molars out of my mouth.

The incident became known escalated into what was known as a serial child assualt case. I had this ugly smirk as I listened to the principal warning the students about these incidents in his morning address.

In the pamphlet handed out by the PTA, it outlined that students should keep a sharp eye on their school routes. As time progressed, adults began to volunteer to do a neighborhood watch during after school and students were to walk home together in groups.

As the shit I was doing began to balloon into something larger, I began to remember the similar catharsis that I felt when my grades began to climb. You can say I was hooked in this 'game.' I didn't even for once think I was gonna get caught, nor did I have the intention of quitting it at a certain point either.

One fateful day.

...I saw this little girl alone in a narrow and dark street all by herself. A very little kid. ...Was she going to her friend's house, or was she going to the store to help on her chores? I didn't give a damn.

'It's all plastered everywhere in the school that kids shouldn't be outside by themselves. How careless of her, and she deserves it - it's all her fault.'

With the same selfish quibbling...I assaulted her.

She realized that she was being attacked as I shot several rounds into her back. It's obvious that a person would turn around and see if one was being attacked from the behind.

I was used to showering my victims with pellets so I continued to fire rounds at her even as she turned her head towards me.

A normal kid would run away screaming "ouch ouch!"

But her reaction was a first for me....




She was screaming at the top of her lungs, rolling on the ground back and forth as she covered one of her eyes...

That was when it hit me.

It struck her in the eye.

Until that exact moment, I did not for once think what would happen if these BB pellets strikes a person into their eyes. It easily penetrates a thick cardboard box...

In any case, the way she was hurting was not what I had expected. It was right then and there I finally realized that what I have been doing a horrific thing.

The little girl saw me, so I couldn't take her to the hospital as that would jeopardize me. I couldn't do anything....so I left the crying girl all by herself and ran away from the scene.

'Was the girl okay, I hope she didn't go blind...'

I didn't have the appetite to eat dinner as all these thoughts went through my head.

At home, I took a household medical book from the bookcase and read through how the eye functions. I read it to try to ease myself to what extent an injury to the eye will not cause permanent blindness. It was a vain act obviously as even if the little girl did not lose her sight, it was still a very brutal assault.

...That night, I couldn't sleep as I broke a high fever. The first one to hand down my punishment was not my parents, the school, or the police. ...It was my own body.

Early next morning....I woke my parents who were still in bed and confessed everything. My parents were at first in shock in disbelief, but once they placed the pieces together of my sudden interest in model guns and rebellious attitude, they realized the matter immediately.

My mom began to cry and my dad beat the fuck out of me.

We didn't wait for dawn to break. I went with my parents to the nearest police station...and turned myself in."
Yeah... the anime left out a lot of details about his past. I'm hoping they'll touch a bit more on it in Pieces of Matsuribayashi-hen.
Ah, interesting. I hope they explain this in the anime.

Also, How much detail dose the manga go into? Is it worth reading?

Loli Takano was cute, and well I suppose those kind of episodes are made for people like me that loves the villain.:kloff
This episode wasn't made to sympathize with Takano since we assume more or less that she had a crazy and painful childhood. It's just filled with some backstories and explained how determined she is.
She has a grudge against fate and life, she wants to be happy, and well finishing her grandfather's job is what would make her happy since she'd fulfill the requirement to become a goddess (as stated by her grandfather).
She's truly a great character, definitely my favorite character.

Anyway, seen Episode 14 (finally!).

Well, the fact that the episode wasn't presented chronologically, it left me confused on some parts, but eventually I got Takano, I mean, Miyoko's past.

Obviously, she loves Hifumi Takano so much that she wants to fulfill the old man's wish. Apparently, the old man was also nuts on becoming a "god", and her doing all those atrocities in the series wasn't obviously for revenge to people.

I still don't sympathize with Takano, although I can't blame her for snapping out because of her tragic childhood. Still, seeing a loli Takano sure is something we don't see often. :nod

Funny to note that if she wanted to get hit by lightning, she should have climbed a tree. :lmao

Aethos, you probably are a little correct about the first 3 episodes of Lucky Star, it does start off a little slow, but it really does end up being quite a nice series. One thing that does make Lucky Star a more enjoyable show though is having seen the other anime series that Lucky Star makes references to. Also, playing a few H-games that Konata seems to enjoy so much (or at least knowing what Konata is refering to as "flags" and "events" are) makes that aspect also quite a bit more hilarious :hehee.

But if that was the case then we'd only come into this thread once a week just to get links to episodes. That's even more of a waste to this thread if we can't talk about more than just the current episode, and since most of us have spoiled ourselves we can't exactly go talking about spoilers in this thread either.

Well, for starters, NF's Higurashi thread isn't exactly as active as any other Higurashi community out there (like the one as AS), but I have to say that hey, even with a relatively fewer number of members, there's still something happening in this thread and for the record, this thread has always been on the front of the Channel 12 section. Unlike some forums that I go to where a Higurashi thread gets buried for good...

The next episode does start the "pieces" aka Kakera Masubi. Judging by the preview 16 will cover a lot of them. I wonder how they will be presented so not to confuse the viewer. These are all about filling in info. If you aren't into the story then I'm sure you will find it boring and shrug it off as more flash backs. Kakera Masubi is a big reason why I'm so attached to Higurashi. It gave a lot of depth to everything. By now all the big questions have been answered. These will answer all the smaller ones.

Going by the episode titles these "pieces" will last 3 episodes. I can already see the bitching. It's like playing an RPG. We can enter the final area but once we finish the game it's over. So we go back and collect everything we missed before proceeding to the final area.

IMO, having the answers to some questions I had in mind for a long time after those three episodes sounds a lot better than watching the "save Satoko" sub-arc in Minagoroshi-hen.

Certainly true, but the current arcs of Higurashi doesn't leave with awesome topics to have quality discussions. Sincerely, I don't know what to say except "Takano is awesome".
For the first season, there was a lot of topics to discuss, a lot of speculations to make. But there we have all our questions being answered, so that's true I just watch and say "okay".

I'll just state some of the things that are bugging me:
- Rika knows a lot about the differents power established in Hinamizawa, what truly schock is her knowledge about the Tokyo mafia (forgot the name) and how she couldn't deduce or at least make an hypothesis that they could be related to her murder in every Hinamizawa.
For her defense, she thought that Takano and Tomitake was truly dead, and Irie sensei is certainly a good guy. Do we know if Rika knew that Takano's corpse was supposed to be dead before the festival? Because if she does, it's unlikely that she could believe in such superstition since she has superpower and should know the "laws of magic" in her universe.

- The idea of "different worlds" has been revealed, and I'm not totally convinced that it should be the way to represent "Higurashiverse". I would have prefered if Rika's reset had an impact/influence on the previous Hinamizawa with a part of consciousness of our heroes travelling into the past with her.
It was stated by Rika that K8 didn't live in Hinamizawa twice, and we have seen him twice being a murderer during a Hinamizawa. (first arc and when he killed satoko's uncle). Do we know if it was right after those worlds that K8 didn't appear?
Because if it is, it could have been explained that his sorrow, pain, fear, shame would have impacted his decision to not live in Hinamizawa.

I was waiting for suspicion being the motor of a massacre between our main characters. They retrieved a part of memories from previous world. Do you imagine the impact if each other remember they were killed by their friends.:evil
Rika would be trying to figure out who's gonna lose his mind.

Keiichi would be suspiscious about Rena, Mion, Shion...
Rena would be suspicious about K8, Mion, Shion...
Mion would be scared by her sister and others members...

I sort of do and sort of don't. We don't really need anymore Hinamizawa Syndrome victims. We had plenty in the first season and every arc in the first season had a purpose other than showing HS screw everything up.

Onikakushi: Introduction to everything
Watanagashi: Mion development and more about Hinamizawa's past
Tatarigoroshi: Satoko development and the introduction of the gas disaster
Himatsubushi: Rika development and the introduction of Akasaka
Meakashi: Shion development and the solution to Watanagashi
Tsumihoroboshi: Rena development and the solution to Onikakushi

Onikakushi is important because it allows Keiichi to later recall memories from it.

Watanagashi/Meakashi are important because they're worlds where somebody else kills Rika and is unable to find her body within 48 hours. There is no gas disaster in these worlds.

Tatarigoroshi is important because it's what really makes Higurashi a mystery. Tatarigoroshi is the most confusing arc of the first season but it's also the one closest to the truth. So when Minagoroshi rolls around, you say "Oh, now I see why that happened." It also shows you why killing Teppei leads to disaster.

Himatsubushi is important because it introduces Akakasaka. Right now he seems like a throwaway character. He returned in Minagoroshi but was too busy with his vacation to do anything. But he will be important later on.

Tsumihoroboshi is important because it's the first world that shows rule X is not the reason why the gas disaster occurs. Keiichi snapped Rena out of her madness but in the end they were all killed anyway.

So, a main story arc was never created just to show someone being crazy and killing others. Otherwise they would be filler.

As viewers, we already knew this piece of informations since the end of Tatarigoroshi (I thnk it's this arc). If she always dies the same day, then the explanation could be the autopsy wasn't finished before she dies.

For another arc with our main cast being murderers, I want a more psychotic way of putting the things up. We know they can remember other Hinamizawas, why not supposed it could be the key for another bloodshed.
When K8 remembered he killed Mion and Rena, he felt sorrow. Instead, he could have felt fear and misunderstanding. We can choose part of their crazy behaviours to influence the characters. Hell, I'm imagining a lot of stuff here.:nuts

Don't feel bad about hating Takano since this is how we should interprete her actions. I love her character to death because she's truly what I expect for a villain to be:
- She has a good personality when she's interacting with other citizens in her undercover identity. Just look at Marth's pic posted in this page, she's cute and lovely. This is how works all the serial killer, they have a normal personality except they have apathy when comitting their murders.
- A good fashion style rocks, and I love her nurse outfit or her black evil mastermind outfit.
- If you watch well, she doesn't have a freaking horrible face when she kills someone, because she's not driven by a disease or madness, at least not as much as what we have seen for our heroes.
- Her playful attitude when she's in evil mode, just watch how she killed Satako, she drinks coffee before comitting a massacre.:evil
- With the recent flashback, you understand better her motivations even if it doesn't excuse anything about what she's doing. I even think she doesn't try to find excuses to justify her actions because she thinks of herself as a goddess.

You create a separate folder and put only the raw and .ass file in there. You make them both have the same name. Then highlight both of them and right click on the video and press open with whatever player. It should work.

If the mkv is Hauu's then it is subbed, you just need the right player to watch it. Media Player Classic should work.

Unfortunately, I must announce that my favourite summer series, Higurashi Kai, is now dropped.

The reasons for it are as follows:

1) Our translator disappeared two months ago.
2) Our other translators are too busy with the million other series we do.
3) There are other groups out there who are doing a good job.
4) We are way too far behind at this point.
5) We have picked up enough new series that we want to focus on those so that they are delivered to you in a timely fashion.

Starting October 24th the Animate.tv website will be streaming episodes 12+ every week. Doesn't affect us since 5 stations are still airing it but even if they all dropped it, we'd still be able to see it.

I wonder if any of the broadcasts are edited and if so will the stream version be unedited?

What Marth said. There's rather quite a lot of stuff to cover in Matsuribayashi-hen that DEEN had to allocate eleven episodes for this arc alone. I don't think any scene in this arc would be senseless and "filler-like".
