Contemplation
I have been mulling over the decision to bring back the FBL, as it was a really good concept, however, poorly executed on my part.

I was contacted recently, by Rice Ball, to bring back the FBL, and it seems the general consensus was that the FBL could have worked, but it failed due to lack of support, from both the judges, and the contestants in part.

So where does that leave us?

Right now, I am planning to create a new FBL- one which will radically change the Outskirts Battledome, if there is significant support behind this concept.

The Old Fantasy Battle League
The Old FBL, as everyone should be aware of, was supposed to be a turn by turn battle between two teams, with judges deciding the outcomes of the battles.

The reason it failed was due in part to-
-Long delays between turns and judges responses.
-Complicated rules, which were poorly defined.
-Lack of support by the judges.

The New Fantasy Battle League
The New League, will hopefully change all of that, and make things fun. It will be less strenuous, more free form, and much easier to get into.

The Changes
Rather than being a battling sort of format, which in my opinion, is very hard to support, due to time differences etc, the New FBL will be more of a hybrid RPG/teamwork concept.

The new focus will be less about competition, but rather creative expression, combined with a touch of characterisation. What happens is that people create teams, like before, but rather then battling each other, they will be working to solve scenarios, basically creating a fan-fic of sorts in the process.

What is important, rather than power levels is creativity.
The Judgemaster of the scenario will basically throw in random events, and adapt the scenario as the teams work through the scenario, so the teams will have to work creatively to take on the challenges being presented.

How it works-
1. Basically- each entrant will choose four characters.
Rather than having a complicated list of restrictions/tiers, you may choose any four characters.

-Why no limits?
Remember- they are fighting against a scenario, so the teams created are to be judged on how they work together, and whether they are coherent.
When teams are created, each entrant is required to write a brief paragraph as to how the team got together.

All of the events provided by the Judgemaster revolve around the central plot of a rift opening which links the Marvel Universe to the DC Universe, so presumably the team's origin story will be based off this scenario.

As well as being a nice bit of info to have, the brief origin paragraph will give the Judgemasters a chance to assess your writing style, and you may be asked to change members etc. (More on this later)

2.There will be a Judge master- and up to 3 teams may enter into a scenario at once. (Though anyone can comment if they wish)

The Judgemaster will basically outline the scenario- ie the Skrulls invade planet Earth, and it is up to the teams present to stop them.

3.The teams will then from there write out the fanfic, and roleplay how they tackle the situation. The Judgemaster will throw in twists and turns here and there, but what is important to note is that it is all about characterisation and creativity.

Sample scenario-
The Skrulls have invaded the Earth-

The clouds darkened, as the Skrull ships entered the atmosphere. Across the planet people were glued to their television sets as the message of impending doom was relayed again and again by the alien's ships. 'The End is near- With the opening of the rift which was prophesied millenia ago, a new age of destruction will be brought forth'

The Skrulls were swift and brutal. Through massive planetary bombardment, the destruction of 90% of the world's military was achieved within minutes of their capital ship's planetfall.

Through sheer luck the teams X, Y and Z survived. They now face the task of taking on this invasion. Their first task however will be to try and find resources with which they can begin this monumental undertaking. While regrouping, the group are set upon by a squad of Skrull soldiers.

What follows will then be the teams response, and they will begin the process of carrying out this scenario. Obviously the scenarios will have an end, but it will be up to the Judgemaster as they are the ones crafting out the scenarios, so basically anything can happen.

My Mission-
The mission of the new FBL is to bring about creativity. I know that alot of the OB goers read alot of comics, so in a way this is a means by which they can express their ideas, and presents an opportunity for scenarios which would never occur to play out.

Imagine the possibilities-
Like in the aforementioned Skrull scenario- the teams could involve teams with characters such as Superman, Mr Fantastic, Black Panther and Lex Luthor.
Through creative writing, the scenario could play out in a way which would be as creative, if not more so than a comic book.

This Thread-
The way has been outlined. The purpose is now to see whether you- the poster is willing to step up and join me in creating this New League- I'm basically testing the waters to see whether there is enough support for this concept.

What I'm looking for in particular is- a minimum of 10 people willing to create teams, and be active in the New FBL.
As well as that, I'm looking for 3 Judgemasters who will be willing to work on creating out the scenarios, and fleshing out this concept.
Other staff such as archivists, admins etc would also be helpful in running this new FBL.

This thread will basically 'test the waters' for a week, to see whether we have enough support to go ahead with this project. Feel free to advertise the return of the FBL in other parts of this forum, or even in other forums. After a week, if there is significant interest, the New Age will begin!

Well the one problem with the battle leagues is parcipitation. My very own fantasy battle thread died, when either the participants failed to show up, or no one would judge the fights. It was going pretty well though, while it lasted.

Anyway, I think we shouldn't limit this to a DCU/Marvel competition, and allow manga and anime, so we might get more participants. And, some people are more familiar with manga/anime than comics.

Also, I think we should use the most consisten versions of each character's powers, not their maxes. For instance, Hulk can shatter an object twice as large as the earth in one punch, but usually he isn't at that level. Also, Flash can vibrate through anything and blow it up, but I've never actually seen a comic with him doing that. He barely even utilizes his true potential 90% of the time.

Anyway, I'm willing to participate in both judging and competition, if you want.

Quick question though: Are anime/manga characters included in this or just Marvel/DC characters? While I can definatly see problems caused by includeing them (a million DBZ characters flying around anyone???? Plus some of the anime/manga universes arnt tha compadible with others) it can also make the FBL more accessiable to people on this forum. After all, this is a predominently anime/manga based forum. More people know about anime/manga characters then they do about marvel/DC characters. Idk, just wondering. Im cool either way.

@CrazyMoronX- I agree about the participation problem, which is why I created this opinion thread in the first place.

If there is significant support for this new concept, then it shall go ahead. Not before.

And also the reason primarily why I limit all things to DC and Marvel is because comics+manga don't really mix well.
However, what I am tempted to do is let in some manga characters, as long as they are easily comprable to comic book characters in terms of feats etc.

This is more of a plot driven sort of RPG concept, as opposed to an all out feats bash, so I'd like to think it is quite open to interpretation.

I'd say extend the banning of characters to include super-high-teir types as well though, otherwise a lot of scenerio's will be lopsided.

Scenerio: "The Skrull's have invaded and launched an attack..."

Player1: "The Flash scours the planet in .13 seconds redepositing the Skrull's in their respective ships. Then Superman throws the ship into orbit and the Sentry kicks it into the delta quadrent. Dr. Strange casts an anti-Skrull ward about the planet to pevent any future returns."

Player2: "Um, Spider-man goes out to buy the beer for the celebration afterwards? As soon as he realizes things started?"

An imbalance originating from Techteon energy in the Marvel verse, causes one of the universe, in the multi verse, to cascade into a perputual cycle of recreation and reconfiguration. Having seen this, the Living Tribunal promptly seals of that universe. However, after having done so, the techteon force begins to build infinetly, with infinite speed; becoming as though it always was and had not had to be; thereby becoming Omnipotent energy.

The Living tribunal feels this imbalance and then calls a meeting of the other powers that compose the multiverse. At this meeting, it is decided by the Living tribunal and the others, that the only way to prevent this energy from usruping him and the cosmic guradians and forces, is to forge a bond with all their powers.This however,as determine by the Living tribunal, will create a massive imbalance. However,The Living Tribunal presummes that through creating an omnipotent infinite imblance the other will be recified.

The end is both errors existing generating a reaction where neither does. This means the multi verse and it's very construction becomes one of one plane and one being, or one existing universe with a finite existance.
Moreover, in this finite universe cosmic force to not exist. At first, when this was discovered by a high advanaced civillization, thier was celebration. Yet, after the unnatural death of one of thier own, and with it the destruction of 2 galaxies, it was determined that Unnatural death could cause the destruction of the universe. Unlike this civilizations however, this fact was not discovered for sometime and thus many galaxies exploded.
Finnally though it is known universally, the consequence to unnatural death and each sector of space has assigned the 4 hereos to make sure none occurs on there planet. For if any does it would mean the destruction of the universe.

Eh, I wanna give an explanation on mine.

Batman -Alright, I need at least one big star to lead the team, and frankly I just like humans better than metahumans. After OMAC, Batman showed to be a pretty bad ass leader, and he can hold his own in a fight against just about anyone.

Cyclops: Backup team leader. Excellent leadership qualities, and his mutant power provides long-range support for anything the group might need. He also has a good amount of experiences with a variety of threats.

Booster Gold: More for the character itself than anything, but Booster along with Skeets is a useful bunch. Skeets is fairly intelligent, and Booster has power beams, flight (Something I'm lacking on this team), and a forcefield.

Blue Beetle (Ted Kord): You can't have Booster without Beetle. Personally, I think this'll just make it easier to write. But Ted is a computer Genius on level or perhaps surpassing Batman, along with similar agility and physical ability. He's an all-rounder with a nice Vehicle (See IC 6) and great intelligence.

Collossus: The team was lacking a true powerhouse, so here he is. Compared to most DC powerhouses, he lacks, but he's always been one of my favorite characters and he's practically invulnerable. Going by Ultimates right now, he's insanely strong for what could be considered in this contest to be a B-level character, he's experienced, and frankly his world-weary Russian personality is one of my favorites in Marvel.

My Backups:

Kyle Rayner: Right now I have individual support for the team in Booster, Cyclops, and Collossus, but no one who can really support the entire team. Kyle would do that. He's not the strongest or more experienced Lantern (At least, when he's not Ion), but he's far more creative than most and I like him still being considered a bit of a rookie. Kilowog, while definitely a veteran, might be another interesting choice just because he's Kilowog.

Green Arrow: I've always loved Green Arrow. Tactically excellent, with incredible marksmanship. But he also sort of provides a moral base that I think a lot of the guys on my team could rally to. He never stops fighting, even if he is just human. God bless him.

Nightcrawler: Ah, how I love NC. Awesome, incredibly useful power, superhuman agility, and great experience as both a team player and a team leader. For something where a pinpoint insertion might be necessary, accept no substitutes.

Ah darn, only four. I suppose Booster could sit out. I'd like a team of five, though. Personally. It works better for an overall team dynamic, in my opinion.

Oh, and points to anyone who has the guts to choose someone like Guy Gardner on their team. Rag-tag bunches own. :P

Question for you about the groups, are we choosing current incarnations of characters only? Plot-wise that seems easist and makes the most sense to me, but some of members I'm looking at are currently in the "depowered" camp (which I suppose doesn't stop me from picking them, but somewhat greatly reduces their usefulness).

Scans Daily (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/) while a bit weird, is a decent source of scans on most characters out there. Just click on a tag with their name on it and you'll get most of the entries with them inclulded.

And I'm the same as Moogle. I can do it (I've judged a few different types of these before) though I'd also like to watch a round first.

Cool, that clarifies things for me and helps sort out my list (well, not really it adds more people than it subtracts, but at least I know I have a set list now as opposed to a "well I could go this way or could go that way" list).

For example- If I made a team featuring Alan Scott (Green Lantern) and Jay Garrick, that would be reasonable, as they already work together.

However lets say I made a team with Joker and Captain Marvel (DC)- what motivation could Captain Marvel have for working with the Joker?

Try and either work your characters around your origin story, or vice versa.

Well it's boring for me because I've been seeing the same characters in vs. threads over and over again (Spiderman, Superman, Hulk, Surfer, Batman and on and on). I just think adding some anime characters whould make this thread better, and bring more people in it.

Remember- its about scenarios, and triumphing over those scenarios, so power isn't really that much of an issue, as the Judgemaster could simply ramp up the difficulty of the scenario by introducing new concepts.

As to manga/anime- What I'm happy to do is allow the four pillars of Shounen- One Piece, Bleach, HunterXHunter and Naruto. These are the most common mangas, and as such there wouldn't be much problem in terms of knowing the characters etc.

However what is important is how the characters will interact with each other- for example- Kakashi is a ninja who has killed many people, which isn't very hero like in the context of the DC universe for example. If you are able to characterise this well, and represent the translation of a manga character into a western context, then by all means go for it!

Remember however- these characters are drawn into the DC/Marvel Universe as a result of the rift, and all the scenarios are set there.

Like a star is about to explode and you have to save a near by planet full with people. You have a team of two green lanters, the flash and batman, whould you do.

Events take place in the evening of the campout in “New X-Men: Yearbook Special #1” (This is about as close to the start of “House of M” as it can get without actually starting “House of M” for the powers that be).

The main focus of this phase of the story will be on David and Noriko, the other characters are somewhat situational and will be introduced near the end of the story. First part of the story will be paraphrasing the end of the Yearbook Special.



David rested quietly as the others settled down to rest. So far the outing could be considered a resounding success. Things had worked themselves out with Josh and would likely resolve with a little more time to rest. Laurie was confident in her place in the team, though she probably will need to work with Josh a bit more to decide where they go from here. And most importantly Jay and the others have accepted Josh as part of the team. There was just one issue left to resolve.

He listened to the crackling of the fire as the movements slowly quieted into rest. Once he was fairly sure the others were resting, he slowly rose. He moved over to one of the resting figures and gently touched the motionless form. “Noriko, can I talk to you for a sec?”

The laying figure made no effort to turn at first. Her voice was cold, “Whatever.” Despite her tone, she slowly rose and walked with David away from the others.

Once they reached an appropriate distance away he spoke, voice quiet and somewhat hesitant. “I know you asked to be transferred off the squad.”

“So? You know. Big deal.” He hadn’t really expected surprise, but the bluntness of her response shocked him.

“Well, I asked to be transferred, too.”

That was enough to elect a response, she looked up with a touch of confusion, “But… you’re the captain…”

He swallowed. He was committed now it was too late to back out now. “Look, I’ve been acting stupid. I know that. The dream I had was so… real.”

Momentum built, heat started to enter her voice with the first touches of anger. “But it wasn’t real, David.”

“I know that too.” It was time to bite the bullet, the air had to be cleared or things would only get worse. “Hey, I’m trying to say I’m sorry, okay?” He looked down, breaking eye contact for a moment. “There is nobody as loud and opinionated and as frustrating as you.”

Her voice changed again, with a hint of anger or humor or both. “Heh, boys always say the sweetest things.”

He looked at her again, trying to focus on the last of it regardless of how it turns out it was over now. “It’s just that I don’t know how to deal with you… but I want to. And that whole dream made it clear that I want to.”

Her eyes tightened, a touch more heat entered her voice. “You think too much, and you talk to much.”

Shock started to overcome him, “I’m just trying to explain-“

She cut him off, “Oh shut up already.” To his surprise she suddenly leaned forward in a kiss.

Their kiss was cut off by a loud noise. A roar of a jet engine suddenly sounded overhead. David glanced up surprised, “A quinjet?” He suddenly became embarrassingly aware of the movements from camp. He started to speak but was cut off by a rocking explosion.

They looked up, transfixed. There was no obvious cause for it, but the quinjet was smoking a thick black smoke as it streaked overhead. To David’s horror, a figure was silhouetted in the moonlight, slowly tumbling towards the ground. “Sofia!”

“I see him David,” her voice was difficult to hear over the fading roar of the jet. She raised her hands gesturing at the ever-nearing figure. Slowly and subtly a look of strain appeared on her face. The strain increased as the figure fell closer, she dropped to her knees as the man crashed roughly into view.

David rushed towards the figure, one hand motioning to the others “Josh: help me with this. Lorie: see how Sophie’s doing. Noriko: keep your eyes open, whatever caused that might be around here. Jay: Head back to the mansion and get the others.”

Everything was a blur. David was only mildly aware of Sophia collapsing. Jay took off in the indicated direction, keeping low and alert. Noriko suddenly looked up “gottachecksomethingout, berightbackholdtight.” Her voice rushed and streaks of light were the only indication of her passing.

Movement was everywhere as Josh reached the figure and got his first view by the moonlight. Blue and red fabric was crumpled, but in surprisingly good shape considering the fall. Surprisingly he started to sit even as David approached. “Watch that first step, it’s a doozey.” His voice sounded strained, but alert. “Actually, it should have been a much bigger doozey than that.” He started looking around at the others, “I have one of you to thank for that?”

Elixir briefly touched the new arrival, “He should be okay Josh, looks like Sofia caught the brunt of it.”

David nodded and pointed back to the others, “see what you can do to help Sofia then.” He turned to the new arrival. “You feeling okay? Any idea of what happened? You’re Spider-man, right? I’m Prodigy, that was Elixir, Wind Dancer helped catch you. Wallflower’s helping her and Icarus just went for more help.”

“It’s been a long day, short story is I got a call from Iron Man about some ‘strange readings’ and had to finish up fighting a guy with robotic eye-stalks that calls himself ‘the iguana’ so that I could hop on the next jet flight to who-knows-where to see who-knows-what that’s probably caused by Dr. Doom or aliens from the Gamma Quadrant messing around with Earth.” He shrugged. “Anyway, I was minding my own business, next thing I know the jet half shook apart and I was making an emergency landing without benefit of a plane.”

Spider-man hopped to his feet and shook himself. “I better get going, from what I saw I don’t think the others are doing any better than I am. Thanks for the assist.” He started deeper into the woods, but David caught his arm.

“Wait a few minutes, the X-men will be here soon.” Streaks of light cut off anything else he was going to say and indicated Noriko’s return.

“You’renotgoingtobelievewhatIsaw.” She slowed and apparently realizing where she was, “Er, come to think of it, I’ll tell you later. I didn’t see anything dangerous around though, so we should be fine.”

“That’s my cue, it’s been great kids, let’s do this again sometime. Maybe without the falling out of a plane bit.” He started walking into the woods.

David looked over at Josh, Sofia, and Laurie. Sofia was recovering and Josh was having a quiet talk with the two girls. “You three wait here for Jay and the others, something doesn’t feel right about this, when help arrives, let them know where we headed. Noriko, lets follow him.”

The two young mutants took off after Spider-man. A few minutes later they saw him talking with a familiar figure. “… or whatever you’re calling yourself this week, I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to play.”

“It’s Shadowcat, at least ‘this week.’ If you have trouble with that, Miss Pryde will do fine.” She glared at him as she continued, “and I’m here for the same reason you are, to figure out what’s going on, we might as well figure it out together.”

“We wanted to know about that as well.” David spoke up as they approached. “And since we’re involved and in position already I think our group would be able to help out.”

“Your group is made of students David. You should be back in the mansion and as far away from this as possible.”

“You’re one to talk, Miss. Pryde how old were you when you joined the X-men again?” Noriko spoke out sounding hostile.

The masked Spider-man cut in “okay kiddies, you stay here and work this out between yourselves, I’m needed elsewhere.” He started off again.

Kitty glared at the two students then rushed to keep up with the departing form of Spider-man. David and Noriko followed only a moment behind. They didn’t know what was going on yet, but they were going to see this through.

The main rift is located in space, slightly further out from the moon, but many pocket rifts have been opened as a result, in different parts of the world and the moon.

(Hint: The Inhumans live on the moon in the Marvel Universe, and the JLA tower is still on the moon (as this is before the Watchtower exploded))

This rift is noticed by many alien races across the universe, and even attracts the attention of the Watcher and Galactus.

A couple new mutants, Kitty and Spider-man thrown together for mostly as-of-yet-unexplained reasons. Other characters were present for the timing of the story but won't be used (well, won't be used centrally).

All Marvel characters, I know. I had enough of a hard time coming up with a team of just 4 from just Marvel and I know those characters better than I know DC (on the plus side, it saves on introductionary dialogue).

Juggernaut Xavier and Iron Man is my entire team.

Now, as for their origin, I won't make a huge long story or anything, but I will give you the basics of how they have become banded together!

After the events of the "What If" Xavier was Juggernaut saga, Jugg X found himself flying through space, unable to stop himself. Eventually, he was happened upon by a being of cosmic order, and was stopped.

Meanwhile, in the standard Marvel Universe, trouble was brewing (leaving out specifics for the sake of whatever scenario), and most of the Earth's heroes have already fallen or become otherwise incompacitated. Juggernaut himself has lost his Cyttorak powers (following the newer line of comics he has), after a long brutal battle, he has also fallen. The only one left to stop the menace, is a handfull of reluctant heroes, lead by one man in an iron suit. Lead by Stark, this team has hidden themselves away, gathering their wits and powers, trying to come up with a plan.

Back in the alternate universe, the being using his cosmic ability has sensed that another universe is in grave danger, knowing that their only hope may be the unstoppable force known as the Juggernaut, he sends Jugg X into their dimension, and lands him on Earth.

Jugg X has been notified by his cosmic chum that he should seek Iron Man out, and help their cause. By doing so, he will redeem himself from the vast evils he plagued his own Earth with. Being Xavier, he is full of remorse, and floating around for so long has come to reflect upon his evils, and wishes to make up for it. This is his chance.

Using his immense telepathic powers, he locates Iron Man, and easily breaches their defense. Not thinking about what he had just done, the presence also happens to find their location, thanks to Jugg X.

Most of the heroes are killed, but Iron Man and Juggernaut Xavier manage to escape. More remorseful than ever, Xavier please with Iron Man to forgive him, and let him help.

They form a weak bond, Iron Man not fully trusting Juggernaut Xavier. But, they both have one goal: stop the enemy! And they will work together to accomplish this goal.

Here is my team.

Team captain- Lex Luthor

First hand- Brainiac

The muscle- Doomsday and Darkseid

This team works because of one reason and one reason only, force.

As the rift in space opens Lex sees this as the perfect time to take over. Brainiac who has seen this and also sees his chance, forms a partnership with lex takeing him over. Thus we get Brainthor.
This is neccisary to get control over Darkseid because he can be easily minpulated by Brainthor to become and mindless killing pawn. As the JL take on the rift Brainthor and Darkseid gain accses to the watchtower, and Doomsday's secret location. Brainthor easily released Doomsday from his cell and Doomsday went into a killing spree, he was easily stoped by Brainthor by telling him superman was just outside in space, then as Dooms day turned to find superman he was meet with a omega blast to the head wich allowed Brainthor to control him. With his two pawns Brainthor simpty waited in the core of the watch tower untill the JL found out how to seal the rifts. As the rifts were sealed Brainthor ordered Doomsday to destroy the core, he did and the watch tower was destroyed, all that remained was The evil four protected by Brainthor energy sheild. Superman rushed head on but was easily met his end at Doomsday's and Darkseid's feet. With superman dead, the universe now belongs to Brainthor and his Evil 4

May I make one suggestion before we start:

That all the fighting happen on Earth Prime. That way the we don't have to worry about other superheros getting involved and that the Earth couldn't legitimately defend itself against a hostile Alien invasion or whatever. Plus, it puts both sides in a universe where they don't know all the rules, so it sort of puts them on even ground.

Oh, and Abridged Backdrop forthcoming.

Edit: Here it is. It's fairly minimalist and utilitarian, but it provides a decent backdrop and reason for why the heroes are in small groups, how they met, and why they'd get together.

Brief Backdrop:

In 616, the world is falling into a state of emergency. All over the planet, small dimensional rifts are opening and closing at an alarming rate. This is especially true for New York City, where a disturbing number of rifts have been opening and closing. No one as of yet has any idea why they are forming, but a few great minds have a good idea.

After watching the events surrounding the dissolution of the Avengers, Dr. Strange and Professor Charles Xavier and Dr. Reed Richards, have theorized that this is an escalation of Wanda Maximoff’s mental breakdown. Not knowing whether this is a plot by Magneto, or something far worse, the trio has gathered some of the greatest superhero groups in a joint effort to keep the chaos to a minimum while trying to reach Wanda as soon as possible.

While Storm leads a group of X-Men with Dr. Strange and Xavier to Genosha, Dr. Reed has taken up the role as Field General, using his sensor equipment in the Baxter Building to guide small two-man groups to rifts for observation and, if necessary, pacification. One of these groups just happens to be Scott Summers and Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin, also known as Cyclops and Colossus.

On the other side of the rift, Earth-1 is also experiencing trouble. The JLA, despite a great deal of tension, are doing their best to keep things under control. Batman himself has gone to New York City, to help the reserves maintain order. Stuck with the ever lovable pair of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, the trio has been patrolling New York, trying to keep the peace as best they can along with the National Guard.

Trouble hits when the S.T.A.R. Labs Manhattan Branch is hit by a local muscle trying to take advantage of the current chaos to cover their escape. With the Bashful Bug and Booster in pursuit, the criminals drive into one of the rifts, taking a closely pursuing Booster Gold with them. With little time to make a decision, Ted floors the Bashful Bug through the rift as it begins to destabilize and close.

On the other side, the two patrolling X-Men are blindsided as a speeding armored car flies out of the rift, with a flying man and massive bug following right behind. Going off what they were told to expect from the Scarlet Witch’s creations, Cyclops quickly assumes the worst and attacks the biggest threat: The large flying machine cruising down the street. He nails the Bug’s propulsion system, sending it crashing to the ground, while Booster continues after the truck, oblivious to the action going on behind him.

The ship comes crashing down in the middle of 54th Street, nailing a few National Guard trucks as it hits ground. On the inside, both Ted and Batman are shaken up at the recent surprise attack, and spend a few seconds shaking the cobwebs out before they start moving. Rolling out behind some cover, they are immediately put to the floor by Cyclops, who fires a few warning shots and asks for a peaceful surrender.

The two men quickly assess the situation: Either surrender and risk never making it back to their own world, or make a quick exit and try to leave as small a mark as possible. Opting for the latter, the two toss out a set of smoke bombs and tear gas in an attempt to make an escape.

While Cyclops is forced to retreat Colossus, immune to the gas, moves forwards, sliding an entire car down the street to block their escape. The two dodge at the last second, finding Colossus charging forwards to give a knockout blow…

When Booster reappears, imposing his force field in between the two forces! Holding the force field tentatively against the massive strength of Colossus gives both Beetle and Booster the opportunity to speak, arguing about Booster’s moronic choice in following the thieves through the rift. As they argue like a married couple, bringing up things like the Justice League of America and the like, Colossus begins to piece together the fact that they are heroes rather than villains. Lame heroes, perhaps, but heroes nonetheless.

Choosing to go to the quiet, grim one, Colossus asks them why they came through the rift. With a few sentences, Batman sums up the problems on the other side of the rift, and now with Cyclops back, the two leaders are able to begin a peaceful dialogue.

Informing them of their own theories on the problem, Cyclops and Batman quickly realize that it would be far more beneficial to figure out what is behind this rift problem together, as it seems to involve both universes. Striking up a temporary alliance, the ramshackle team is prepared to get to the bottom of the rift problem to save both their worlds.

@Spacey-basically this is an RPG set in Marvel's 616 and DC's Earth-1 and involves scenarios based around the opening of a rift between the two universes which starts to cause all sorts of things to occur.

Pick a team of 4/5 or less, write a convincing origin story based on how your team got together during this crisis.

Once we have the various teams, I will begin the various scenarios.

The format is sorta like a half turn based RPG and half fanfic, with a Judgemaster who controls the events in that scenario. The teams participating in the scenario will basically then work through the scenarios with their teams, and deal with the plot twists etc.

Eventually the scenarios will join together to hopefully form some coherent overall plot :P

Here goes...

For the purpose of my story, Aztek never died and is one of the JLA's regular roster.

One day at the JLA watchtower, Aztek and Aquaman were chatting, looking off onto the earth. "You know, in my life, i've seen so much. Guarding Atlantis was my whole purpose, but now that im a regular of the JLA, Life seems so more broad. Theres so much more out there than i knew." Said Aquaman. "You think so?" Questions Aztek. "I see where your coming from friend. I had been raised my entire life by monks." The two share a good laugh. But before either had the chance to say anything else, Martian Manhunter announced on the Intercom he was teleporting some members down to Earth to investigate a rift that had just opened. The two happened to be the ones chosen, and were teleported down. As they looked at their surrounding, Aztek was quick to point out the singed portion of road the portal had opened at. The two asked around but to little success. They pondered as to where this portal came from. But he would soon find out, as a portal appeared right behind them, sucking them both in..


At that exact time, in some Marvelous other Universe....

Xaivier is aware of the rifts going on, and that is true especially to the vicinity of Xavier institute, where they have been opening often and at random. Xavier has them all inside to prevent his students from being drawn in to the portals and has set up a psionic barrier around the school, preventing portals from opening up inside. Some X-Men are training in the Danger room (two of which are Iceman and Rogue) on a Sentinel exercise. Everyone is doing fine, until Rogue is Bitch-Slapped by a "Sentinel" behind her, ramming her through the school wall. Iceman rushes to go get her, as she flies through the air. Before Iceman man can realize to rush back inside with Rogue for the sake of staying away from the portals, he (Along with Rogue) is sucked into one..

Meanwhile (Again) in a universe were your lucky to get ONE PIECE of a Devils Fruit...

Aztek and Aquaman land on the ship of Captain Smoker after falling out of rift. Smoker draws his blade to the dazed two. "Who are you and what are you doing on my ship!". Assessing the situation, Aztek breaks Smokers Sea-Stone blade and frees himself and Aquaman. Smoker turns to smoke and begins to choke Aquaman, but Aztek creates a whirlwind, immobilizing Smoker. Telling Smoker they mean no harm, he backs off. Suddenly, Ice Man and Rogue fall out of a rift onto Smoker. Smoker , Being pretty pissed off, is about to punch Ice Man, when suddenly a rift opens up, dragging all of them in. They end up in an underground base, with what looks like a number of officials staring at them. The five look at each other, and it is decided they will stay together for the time being, until , at least, they know whats going on...

Well, it's true. In SUpergirl #5 (if not, then #6), Kal does say that he uses only a certain percentage of his powers. The time you see him in his glory and all is during OWAW, when he went for a sun-dip to fight Brainac after absorbing Imperiex's essence.

Even JLU Superman not holding back doesn't seem that powerful. I was expecting the following sonic boom. When there was none. . . ah well.

The Justice League is Fighting Amazo, in the famous battle where he is recreated and stels the powers of all of the JLAs most powerful. Aquaman...is helping...somehow..

Aztek, in that storyline, is the one who defeats him. So as he throws the finishing blow...a Rift in dimensions is opened up, meant to be a failsafe in case he was defeated. Green Lantern Shields everyone except Aquaman(Because Everyone hates him) and Aztek(because he had already been drawn to near to be saved)

Aztek and Aquaman are sucked in...


MEANWHILE

Rouge and Ice Man are training in the Danger room with the rest of the X-Men. A Stray Icicle Ice man fires at a laser in an attempt to stop it is shooting towards rouge. he shoots a beam of ice in an attemt to stop it. Gambit immediately Thrwos a keneticaly charged card at it, while jean Grey Tries to stop it telekenetically. The fusion of the ice, kenetic energy, and Telekenetic force creates a disturbance. This disturbance opens up a similar rift to the one that sucked in Aquaman and Aztek. Profeser X Manages to teleport everyone out, but for some reason, it didnt work on Ice Man and Rouge. Possibly it was their destiny to be teleported to wherever that portal lead...


Also!!!!

At a much later Arc in One Piece, Smoker has immobilized everyone in the Straw Hat Crew. He pulls out his Sea Stone Blade, ready to finally put an and to Luffy. Suddenly, Just like in the Whiskey Peak arc, Dragon stops him. "You have interfered with his destiny long enough! Begone!" Dragon then shows his true power. He opens up a dimensional rift, and sends Smoker in...

At that exact moment, They all fall out of a rift in a military base, hidden underground from the Skrull. Commander in Cheif, President Bill Clinton the Second Has a huge grin across his face as he sees reenforcements have arrived.

The rift is an event which spontaneously occurs, not by anyones abilities. Get it? :wink

Read Evil Moogle's story- they are thrust together as an accident due to events somehow relating to the rift, or read CMX's story (which is somewhat unlikely, but still plausible), which is quite original.

BTW- to all writing stories, while it is important to flesh out the background action, try not to over embelish, as that would be inserting things into the background plot which may not have happened yet. Ie- A skrull attack on Marvel Earth causes the team to band together- That event hasn't occured, so don't put it into the background story.

Well, it's true. In SUpergirl #5 (if not, then #6), Kal does say that he uses only a certain percentage of his powers. The time you see him in his glory and all is during OWAW, when he went for a sun-dip to fight Brainac after absorbing Imperiex's essence.

Even JLU Superman not holding back doesn't seem that powerful. I was expecting the following sonic boom. When there was none. . . ah well.

They weaken the JLU characters alot on the show, but they're still great!

And Flash is still one of the best on the team!

When teams are created, each entrant is required to write a brief paragraph as to how the team got together.

All of the events provided by the Judgemaster revolve around the central plot of a rift opening which links the Marvel Universe to the DC Universe, so presumably the team's origin story will be based off this scenario.

As well as being a nice bit of info to have, the brief origin paragraph will give the Judgemasters a chance to assess your writing style, and you may be asked to change members etc.

So, to clarify, the origin story of getting together is similiar to that of COIE?

@Comic Book Guy (CBG for short)- basically the origin story is like a mini story which occurs in the middle of all of this stuff which causes your team to get together.

Example-

616-
In New York, United Airlines 64 is cruising and about to make a landing. The pilots are weary after a long day's haul, and are looking forward to a nice break.
Without warning, a tear in the space time continum opens up, and the large rift swallows the plane whole.

The Human Torch is cruising around, and about to head back to base when he see's the airplane swallowed by the rift. "Man oh man, Sue is going to kill me for this!"
Without a second thought he flies through the rift after the airplane.

Earth-1-
It is a quite day in Keystone City. Jay Garrick and Alan Scott are taking a well deserved break, and are having lunch at a small cafe.
Without warning they hear a loud "BOOM", and they look up to find an out of control airplane being flung out of a rift, about to crash into a shopping mall.
Seconds later, the plane is followed by a man who appears to be on fire.
"It'sgoingtobeoneofthosedaysehAlan?" says the original Flash, as he speeds off towards the anticipated crash site, breaking the sound barrier in the process.
"Most definitely" replies Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern. Already his clothes have been replaced by his red and green uniform, as his body is enveloped in green flames. He too takes off and speeds towards the anticipated crash site.
Three seconds and 10 kilometers later, they arrive at a field which is directly in the path of where the aircraft is heading.
"How are we going to do this?" questioned the Flash. "By my approximations, that aircraft is flying at around 800kilomters per hour"
"Well my good friend, the Keystone High football field is probably big enough to hold the aircraft, so all we have to do is find some way to slow it down and settle it down."
As he spoke, the original Green Lantern began to craft a net using his ring.
"A net? Are you serious?"
"You have a better suggestion? Considering you can't really fly, better leave this one to me. The airplane is liable to catch on fire as soon as it lands, so if you wouldn't mind gathering some buckets of water..."
"I'monit" The Flash's words were but a high pitched squeal, as he ran off to fetch some pails of water. Within seconds, buckets of water seemingly appeared out of thin air to line the sides of the field.
"Think this will be enough?" said the Flash, slowing down for just a moment so that his words could be heard properly.
"I sure hope so." replied Alan Scott. His ring crafted from Starheart had not stopped producing the net, which the Green Lantern had called forth, and now the net was at an incredible size, easily encompassing the football field.
"Also- speaking of fire. What are we going to do with that fire guy? Do you think he is responsible for the airplane appearing like that?"
"No clue. We'll just have to approach him carefully. For now though, he seems to be trying to help"

Johnny Storm was in trouble. He had flew in after the airplane, and now he had no idea where he was.
Well Johnny it looks like we aren't in Kansas anymore he thought, as he chased down the airplane.
As he flew, he noticed a man who appeared to be surrounded by green flames, and had a gigantic net, the size of the football field he was hovering over.
Say what?
Without warning the man cast his net over the airplane, and flew higher trying to slow the aircraft's descent gently, without tearing the plane apart.
The Human Torch quickly flew up with a burst of speed to go lend his aid. Grabbing the net, he flew towards the green flamed man, helping pull the net to slow the aircraft down.

Together they managed to significantly halt the aircraft's passage, partially also due to the pilot's quick thinking in shutting off the airplane's engines. They slowly lowered the aircraft onto the football field, and Green Lantern Alan Scott recalled the net, as it vanished into green flames.
Immediately, the Flash ran towards the airplane, becoming a fast moving blur as he doused the aircraft's engines with water, to prevent the stressed engines from bursting into flames. As he moved, the airplane's doors opened, and the emergency slides deployed, allowing the distraught passengers to depart from the aircraft.

Awhile later...
"So you say you all are from New York city?" questioned Alan Scott.
Johnny Storm nodded.
"But not our New York?"
"Yes. Where I come from, we don't have a Keystone city, or a Justice Society, or any of these other things" replied the Human Torch.
"And I also haven't heard of this 'Fantastic Four' you are part of." mused the Green Lantern.

"This must be something to do with those rifts which we are hearing about. Superheroes, civillians, buses and trains all disappearing and others reappearing, lost and confused." quipped Jay Garrick, as he took of his winged helmet to scratch his head.

"Well lad, you stick with us. We'll bring you back to the JSA headquarters. Mr Terrific has apparently managed to make contact with a superhero from your dimension. A Mr Fantastic is it?" asked Alan Scott.
"Yep, thats Reed alright." replied Johnny Storm. "If anyone could have made contact, it would have been him."
"Thats great and all, but now what are we to do with the few hundred civillians?" exclaimed Jay Garrick
"Oh. Yeah..." sighed the Green Lantern.



Get the format? Basically, something happens, involving the rift, and somehow a team forms. Be creative- you don't have to make it as long as mine, but be original.

Part 1: How Dr. Doom and Firestorm Come To Be Teamates

Doom was sitting within the confines of his castle, mirring at the petty mortals below, when suddenly a rift opened. Immediately, Doom's censors detected and classified it, as a cosmic disturbances. Thus Doom began to plan. His thoughts however, were soon interrupted, when his censored indicated another lesser disturbances had occured. Although it was small, his censors indicate a concentrated sum of anti-matter particules had descend, from a diffrent part of the cosmic distrubances. Luckily, said distrubance, had crashed landed only two miles from his kingdom; from the city where he was given proper precendent and authority, from Latevaria. Thus, being the great man he was, albeit cautious, Doom first sends several small mecanized creations to contend and report the disturbances. Upon a brief inspection, Doom is awe stroke by what his machines report. The power levels of the creature are like those of the surfer, yet diffrent; the being has energy that appears to be outside of the 3d dimensional reality. After mauling for a brief period of time, Doom concludes there is an equal seperate universe of which this beings energy originates, and that in controling the being, Doom could achieve omipotence. Furthermore, Doom realizes it is likely he is not the only one who has detecyted this disturbance and that the being may not wish to willingly help his cause, but... HE IS DOOM!

With brillance unrivalled and swiftness, he puts his plan in motion. First, Doom sends several drones with holographic projections of various earth heroes to attack the being. Of course Doom takes special time to project and program a Drone where Richards (the only one even close to his level of brillance), will vocally be exceedingly vicious as well as physically violent. Following this step, after a time, Doom goes to intervene and parry the wave of machines. Needless to say, the being is grateful and at that time it is revealed he is called Firestrom.

Firestrom new to this universe, agrees to accompany Doom to his country. When finally they arrive, Doom has already began to exude and influence Firestorm, thereby warping him against the heroes of earth. The final bit of Doom's persuasion comes from his "valient" story, of how he was rendered and confined to the prison of his armor. Within this tale, Doom makes sure again, to explictly state the cruelty of Richards. :amuse

Firestrom is moved by Doom's story and agree's to help him. Doom then suggest, that the best way Firestorm can help him is to allow Doom to study his energies. Firestorm find this strange and subverts to being cautious, however, Doom displays further innate brillance, as he should, and convinces Firestorm. This is done namely by Doom relying to Firestorm that his foes, the FF4 and etc, are how he has come to be in thier universe,and that the key to returning him and preventing thier nihilstic ideals lies in discovery Firestorms energy patterns. Finally, Firestorm agree's, however, wishes only to enter a chair or sitting appartice and not some chamber,as Doom suggested. Doom agrees and Firestorm sits. Immediately, with but the movement of Doom's mighty finger, the chair becomes a chamber and Firestorm is propelled into a containment field of perputual motion and absorbition, in which his power is syphonned and he cannot adapt the atomic structures around him. (Thanks to Doom's calculations, in which he had the atoms randomize faster then they could be converted or changed)

Now captured and helpless, Doom begins experiment after experiment on Firestorm.
First, he test the limits of Firestorms power, and is happy to discover they are limitless. Second, he tries to discovery Firestorm link to the original cosmic disturbance, but alas fornought, Doom finds nothing. Lastly, doom implants several chips, in the form of nanomites and of a temporal consturct. These chips are what serve Doom to manipulate Firestorm and delude his actions, through forced subconcious supression of new realities. (Knowing anything more then before) Laughing victoriously, Doom stares at Firestorm and releases him, yet Firestorm is enraged and attacks him. Indeed the being is mighty, but just as Doomed had planned, the supressant of a subatomic, temperal planting take effect. Firestorm ceases his atack and apologizes for his actions. Doom states that it was Richards and his orginaztions of Villans that had temporaily controlled Firestorm and thus they were still allies.
Doom then suggest to Firestorm that he return to his quarters, which Doom has prepared and consider how he may best aid Doom to save his world from the villans. Firestorm concurs and retreats to his room. Thus Doom is left to sit upon his maginificant chair and smile bemused at his coming ascension to Godhood. Yes indeed, all is at it should be, for HE IS DOOM!

Part Two: Where Dr. Doom Recruits Black Adam

Several days had passed, since Doom had began his plan, and all once going well. More and more rifts seemed to be opening, as Doom Predicted. However, one day while Doom had been spying on the avengers, Doom noticed something approaching his home, at mach 7. Curious by the coming, Doom decided not to erect a force field around his city, but only to erect one around the room.

Bam! The thing had hit... and had demolished a 4th of his city. Yet, it did not concern him, for his machines could rebuild it in but an hour. No! Instead his attention was with the man who had a yellow lighting insignia on the front of his black costume. It was astounding, this man was baning away at his forcefield, with some sucess. Thereby, this man possed strength unseen to Doom in all his lifetime.

"What is your name" Doom spoke.
He was not answred.
This made Doom angry, and he called forth his machines to attack the fool who was silent. His machines however, where destoryed in an instant. Now more observant, Doom could see the man was enraged and spotting how Doom had killed his master.

"Calm! you fool!" Doom spoke, I know not of your master.
At this point the two exchanged a short discourse, where the man informed doom of his woe. The man had learned of his master dismise at the hand of another... one even greater. Doom also learned this master was in that of the mystics arts. Thus Doom spoke, all the while planning, " I too am a Master in the Mystical arts and will investiagte this case". The man however, was not grateful and soon hatred and anger flooded him once more.

Doom however, decided to no longer tolerate such an outburts and sent forth his first herald... Firestorm. The battle was but biref, as Firestorm transmuted atoms into a virbranium construct- in which the man began to calm down again.

"Now then, lets as continue are conversation" spoke Doom.
As the too talked, Doom began to notice something strange about the man's manner. His anger fluctuated like that of a themometer branched between the isiss of hot and cold. Moreover, his strength and power fluctuated as well.

This made Doom ponder...could it be, this man suffers from a personality disorder.Performing several mind boggling caluclations, of which no other man could, Doom orders Firestorm to blast the man with a specific type of arranged patterns of substance, as Doom performs several spells simulatenously.
The end result was that Black Adam is restored, no longer mad, but Firestorm is weaked, though first Doom instructed him to remove the Vibranium prison. After which Firestorm faints.

Now free,Black Adam momentarily stares at Doom, and then punches him.
Doom flies back, staggered by the power of the blow.
Black Adam flies over above him and speaks.

"I know of your plan and I know how you plan to execute it, I have read it through your thoughts when you performed your magic. Your plan is madness Doom, I will not allow you to sacrifice innocents. I will put a stop to you right here and now."

Doom slowly rises to his feet.

"Ah Black Adam you are a fool.
You underestimate my Power never Forget I am Doom!"

Suddenly Black Adam falls to the ground.

"Fool! I had been analzing you, both scientifically and with my mystical arts, and threw this I discovered the properties of your magic. Thanks to the Cosmic rift, there was a variance in the stream of your magic core, which I being Doom, promply manipulated. You are now at my mercy Black Adam, you are now my slave. However, do not be disuade, I am a Man of the Greatest preportion. You understand not the depths of my plan. For when I am omnipotent I will restore all the loss my plan brings. I will be a fair and just God. "

With but the move of Doom's mighty hand, Black Adam stands and follows behind Doom.

Once Black Adam was proud and said to be God, but now all his resistance is gone. None would have said such a thing was possible. Yet, those fools have never met DOOM!

shika shika boo- that was a pretty good attempt at Doom- How he dominates Firestorm, and tricks him into thinking he is the good guy, and how he manipulates Black Adam.

The President begins to explain the crisis, of the invasion by the Skrull, and how none of Earths weapons have had any effect on them. He asks if they will offer their assistance. There is some doubt, but everyone agrees to help out. They knew little of what they were in for...

No one planned it!!!
This also doens't explain why they would even want to work with each other.
Smoker is a psychotic naval officer, who is hunting down pirates, Aztek and Aquaman are JLAers and Rouge and Iceman are just two random mutants.

What is critical is why they would work together.
The team work aspect is very important!

Example- Xavier Juggernaut was sent by a cosmic being to work with Ironman as a sort of retribution for his crimes.
Spidey and those X-kids are working together because circumstances means they have to stick together and try to figure out whats going on.
Cyclops, Colosuss, Batman, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle stumble into a rift while chasing thieves and realize that something big is going down, so they decide to work things out.

Etc etc.

Can you see? In all of these stories, there is an occurence, and due to that occurence, they are thrust together and have to work with each other.

And the rift is an accident!!! Not caused by the President, not caused by anyone, but a cosmic accident!!
(And why it was done will be revealed later!)

Big rewrite! Ask some of the others for help, if you still can't get it :P

Also- as for backstory-
The Skrull invasion is not canon yet.
What is canon-
-Airplanes, people, trains and cars have been randomly disappearing and reappearing all over 616 and Earth-1.

-Mr Fantastic has managed to make contact with Mr Terrific across the dimensional bridge (Note- Neither Mr Terrific or Mr Fantastic can be used, as I am using them)

-Proff X and all those Illuminati guys have several theories as to why this has happened. Some of those theories involve Wanda, but so far, none of the theories are official.

-On Earth-1- Martian Manhunter is on watchtower duty, when the city of Attilan (The Inhumans city) appears. Blackbolt is in communication with Martian Manhunter.
(So pretty much all the Inhumans are now in the DC universe)

-All of the various races- Kree, Skrull, Shi'ar, Rann, Thanagarian, Eternals, New Genesis, Apokalypse as well as Galactus, his heralds, Darkseid, Brainiac and Thanos,
have noticed this cosmic occurence, and are all studying it.

-Johnny Storm is in the DCU.

-Ironman is in charge of coordinating a small group of heroes, as indicated in CMX's story, but is primarily working with Xavier Juggernaut in his efforts.

Feel free to use these bits of canon in your backstories, but try not to make up too much background material.
However, if I like the material you present, I may absorb it into the canon of this whole situation :amuse

Sometimes, his deceased family would surface in his mind, time to time. It has been many a year since their deaths, but time could do little to erase their memory from his heart.

He shifted his right leg slightly into a more comfortable position, meditating cross-legged in the air. It had been a few hours since he started; his telepathy broadened outward and his mind was settled with a temporary tranquil peace. J'onn seldom meditated, as they were

Earth was fettered with threats constantly with little rest in-between. So far, the last two days were quieter than usual; if he, the Martian Manhunter, was able to find time to meditate, something which he hadn't done in a long time, then all must be quiet on Earth.

Absent-minded, he opened his eyes and inclined his head to see the multitude of stars that glowed afar. He blinked once and faintly smiled at the sight; the stars of space never ceased to amaze him, even his early days on Mars.

Having meditated his fill, J'onn hovered himself back to the ground and assumed his shift of monitor duty.

It wasn't until 10 minutes in when suddenly, there was a ripple of sorts displayed by one of the monitors. -- a ripple in reality itself, J'onn noted. It was subtle at first, but it grew into a crack of light, fully forming into a rift.

Attention, this is J'onn Jonz. There is a --

A bright light enveloped his vision, momentarily blinding him and his other senses.

It was a little under a minute, when a figure -- a man, from what J'onn saw -- dressed in black flew and intercepted his path. J'onn stopped, and calmly regarded the stranger.

Hopefully, he was not a hostile.

"I am J'onn Jonz of the Justice League. Who are you, and what do you want?"

The black garbed man noticeably blinked, and made several hand motions. Noticing that he didn't spoke, J'onn repeated his question mentally.

Several answers later, J'onn sensed another powerful mind, one heading in their vicinity.

He matched gazes with the black garbed man -- Black Bolt, he told J'onn -- and prepared themselves.

Black Bolt?

Though J'onn was cautious, he noticed his Inhuman friend slightly relax. Soon, a young, red-headed human female descended to meet them; a fiery aura in the form of the bird surrounded her, reminding J'onn of a Phalkon of legend and myth.

Who are you?

J'onn answered. I am J'onn Jonz, the Martian Manhunter, of the Justice League. And you are, miss?

There was a flash of psionic power in her right eye as she answered. Rachel. Rachel Grey

J'onn turned and nodded his head to the Inhuman King. Do you two know each other?

Black Bolt mentally replied.

A furrowed brow. I see. Well, --

Rachel turned her head sharply, a bird shaped flash from her right eye. Wait! Is that? Nathan? No, someone. . . different. . .

She didn't answer long. Below them, there was another rift, a big one in fact. All three of them crossed their arms in front of them, avoiding the kicked up debris. Only Black Bolt saw a red-black flash zooming out of the rift, which had closed as quickly as it appeared.

When the dust cleared, all three of them descended. It was J'onn who reacted first.

". . . Flash?"

He huffed and puffed, catching his breath, before raising and looking thoroughly at his hands, amazed somehow. "I. . . I made it out?" He shakily stood to his feet, and met three pairs of eyes.

"Who are you? And who's he?"

A stammer. "B. . . Barry Allen." And he looked over to the unconscious man. "And I don't know who he is. . . I ran out and into him, before up again. . . -- " His last few words made little sense to Black Bolt and Rachel, but they did sense a great fatigue of sorts on the red-clothed man.

"He is Raymond C. Terrill -- the Ray." J'onn Jonz had recognized him; he hired him for the JL Taskforce years ago.

Black Bolt made a series of hand gestures, which Rachel interpreted. "Now that we're all introduced and here, what is going on?"

As if in answer, a number of rifts opened and closed from the distance, catching their attention.
