I think the birds are pretty weak as far as Legendaries go - their base stats in the game aren't that high, and they don't learn any amazing moves. They've never done anything in the anime that was overly impressive either... Articuno even got defeated by Charizard.

Also, none of them have a good type advantage against Kyuubi. Kyuubi's element is likely to be fire, which makes Articuno and Moltres' attacks pretty useless, and Zapdos will only be normal.


Certain other Legendaries would stand a much better chance. Kyogre and Groudon are both bigger and stronger than the birds, and have type advantages... I'm fairly sure they could defeat boss summons, though I don't know about bijuu. It's possible, considering they're powerful enough to literally change the face of the Earth and turn it into ocean or land. Mewtwo's psychic abilities are very strong, he created storms that engulfed the entire world and, from what I can remember, he can regenerate... so he stands a decent chance. Rayquaza might be powerful enough too; his hyper beam completely disintegrated Deoxys, so there's a chance it could do some good damage to Kyuubi.. and he should be fast enough to avoid Kyuubi's attacks.

But the birds, I doubt it. Moltres might be able to last pretty well, since it can survive (get stronger, in fact) from submerging itself in magma... fire attacks won't trouble it, and it could probably avoid them anyway. I don't see how it could hurt Kyuubi though.
