hi~!! :amuse
yayyy my name is in the vocab list~!!!
I'll post a topic that confuses me all the time but itz quite easy (feel free to delete if itz too easy):
rareru (possibility/honorific form)
rareru can be add to verbs to mean one of the following:
1. something can be done
2. Something got done to someone
3. to glorify or put an action to a statis...(not sure how to word this one)
---------
1. Something can be done:
For group one verbs: eg. taberu 食べる
change into masu form: 食べます
drop masu, then add rareru: 食べられる = can eat
For group two verbs: eg. tatsu 立つ
change to masu form again:
drop masu, change the last syllable before masu into the "e" syllable:
立つ > 立ちます > 立てます = can stand
Other verbs: eg. shinjimasu 信じます
drop masu add rareu: 信じられる = can believe
----------------------------------------------------
2. Something is done to someone else
group one verbs: 食べる
same as the first time: 食べられる
Group two verbs: eg. 殺す korosu
change to masu form:
drop masu, change the last syllable to the "a" syllable to itz line, add "remasu"
殺す > 殺します > 殺されます
To use this:
eg: A got killed by B
A は B に殺されました
the particle "ni" decides who kills.
'ni" goes behind the person who does the action.
"wa" is after the the person who is affected by the action.
-------------------------------------------
3. to elevate something
The changing is the same as the FIRST point.
The usage of it is the same as any other verb sentence.
I will be gladly to give th vocab list.. *up to my level* but I can't type kana or hiragana at all if you want I'll Pm the list in writting over ^^; *up to 300 vocabs +kanji + some kanji compounds*

Those are great~ daomua2 XDDD
hmmm should I do another grammar lesson~
Since you put up a counter up there, I'll exmplain counters today~!!! ^__^
Counters:
Japanese people have different set of counters to express numbers in various contexts.
example: to count basic the numbers, to count flat things, to count books, to count long thin things etc.
It is essential to know what counter to use at what time.
To count things in general:
1. 一つ (ひとつ)
2. 二つ (ふたつ)
3. 三つ (みっつ)
4. 四つ (よつ)
5. 五つ (いつつ)
6. 六つ (むっつ)
7. 七つ (ななつ)
8. 八つ (やつ)
9. 九つ (ここのつ)
10. 十 (とお)
To count flat things like paper, cards...etc
simply add 枚 (まい) to the end of the number
eg. 1. 一枚 (いち・まい)
To count books (BOOKS ONLY): add 冊 (さつ) to the end of the numbers. There are some expceptions though
1. いっさつ 一冊
2. にさつ 二冊
3. さんさつ 三冊
4. よんさつ 四冊
5. ごさつ 五冊
6. ろくさつ 六冊
7. ななさつ 七冊
8. はっさつ 八冊
9. きゅうさつ 九冊
10. じゅっさつ 十冊
To count long things. (like swords, poles, sticks...etc)
add 本 (ほん) to the end.
There are exceptions to this one:
1. いっぽん 一本
2. にほん 二本
3. さんぼん 三本
4. よんほん 四本
5. ごほん 五本
6. ろっぽん 六本
7. ななほん 七本
8. はっぽん 八本
9. きゅうほん 九本
10. じゅっぽん 十本

Counting Months
一月(いちがつ)
二月(にがつ)
三月(さんがつ)
四月(しがつ)
五月(ごがつ)
六月(ろくがつ)
七月(しちがつ)
九月(くがつ)
十月(じゅうがつ)
十一月(じゅういちがつ)
十二月(じゅうにがつ)
Counting Days of the Month - These don't follow the same pattern as the counters for objects, so it would be better to just memorize them. However, the bold ones can be considered exceptions, since they don't seem to follow this pattern.

I'm a chinese, learning Japanese.
I'm in Year 12...my last year of school, and I started studying Japanese in Yr 11....which makes my time learning Japanese... 1.5 years.
I'm doing a course called "accelerated level" at school so my class goes much faster than normal....but I'm still nowhere near as good as the others here :amuse

でも....
それはこのスレッドのいしですよ!
That is what this thread is for (That is this thread's purpose)
え~と、この場合の「いし」(意思)を使うのは何かちょっと変だと思う。その「いし」とは生き物や、特に人 間のことについて使われるそうだ。「もくてき」の方がましだと思うんだ。

If you got the sentence structure down, joshi (particles) understood, verb forms, etc grammar wise, it is most likely best to just practice. Once you know enough you can learn new words by reading them out of context, or even out of a pure Japanese dictionary and not EN<->JP. I suggest go to Japan-guide.com....get a microphone and go to the forums and find a friend to talk to and practice with, so they can practice english, and you practice Japanese.
Anyway, I really need to post a lesson, I haven't really posted any since my first post that i made.

Lol yeah even though she may be my girl friend, we have been together for about 7 YEARS! That's like a Nobel Prize accomplishment compared to my friends. We even continued it after she left, and I visit there every summer, and over christmas break. We have recently talked about marriage, but we're waiting till last year of college; 21-22 yo. So that means when we do get married, if we stay together (I'm 99% + that we will) we will have been together for about 10-11 years. We will get married in Japan (ooh expensive plane tickets for my family), and live in Japan. I will become a citizen...eventually.

wow this thread is old, It kinda died and was meant to be intermediate lessons anyway.
Also, yeah, I didn't know then, as I was never told until recently, but I found out I already have a Japanese citizenship by birth, but I have to declare it by age 21 and give up my US citizenship. I plan on maybe declaring/choosing it, but never handing in the US one, I heard that I can do that-- as it is a "what they don't know, won't hurt them" kind of thing.:amuse
Anyway, I got tired after the first or second lesson, and it wasn't going anywhere, so I'm going to close my thread. If any of yall ever need help simple go to the Japanese Class thread or the Japanese speakers FC, and ask your question, and someone should answer (it may not be me). :amuse
