kakashi is refering to the fact that getting hit by the chidori will lead to death just as the rasengan hitting someone will lead to death, it's just a comparison chidori is kakashi's original technique though i find it strange for him to already have it because now he can't see the counter coming that lee talked about, that's probably why that sand nin got to kakashi with his sword he hasn't got the sharingan yet i had always thought he created the chidori after getting the sharingan looks like he just perfected it later on when he got his sharingan

Thanks again for the translation, this was an amazing chapter! ^_^ I agree, I really feel for him more than ever after the bit about his dad was revealed - the revelations just keep coming! I panicked for a moment there too and wondered if the Stone nin actually took his eye out - but god, how cool did the 4th look swooping in? Sort of reminds me of the Wave arc where Kakashi sweeps those two Mist nins up just when it looked like Sasuke and Sakura were done for ... Kishi sure likes to play with parallels doesn't he? :)

"Shunshin no Jutsu", eh? It seems to give Yondaime a massive speed burst, basically he zipped over to Kakashi and brought him back before the blade could cut him deeply.

Pages 10 and 11 sealed it, (Yondaime fan), I never though he was THAT much of a badass (kunai from the shadows, execution).

The teleport jutsu sounded pretty darn good though its kinda be done before. . Haku/Kakashi and Sasuke have done some form of it. .

I think the best part was learning more about Kakashi's family, especially his father. The team 7 thing in Kakashi's team is still going on. Obito pissed his pants just like Naruto did in his 'fight' with a real ninja. . though Kakashi seems more arrogant than Sasuke.

I guess we know why Kakashi is such a hardass about the rules now. It also explains why he was so obsessed with being THE captain on the mission and completing the mission (his father didn't complete that one mission).

Kakashi looked cool blasting through shit, but he looked funny when Yondaime just plucked him out of the air, lol.

The parallels are EVERYWHERE. Yondaime/Kakashi emphasizes teamwork. The genius does ok in the first clash (Demon Brothers/Stone Nin), the klutz freezes in fear, the girl doesn't do anything, the sensei comes in to save the day. Well, ok, Rin did something. She did heal Kakashi afterwards. Oh, another parallel, the girl on the team is a medic nin.

When Yondaime saved Kakashi from the cut, he's supporting his weight with his left hand... on the stone nin's foot. And you see a "Gush" sfx coming from it. Maybe that time, he put that markings, and they must be part of the shunshin jutsu. No wonder they made a close-up of his foot.

Aha, good point! I guess it's not really supersonic speed then, it's some sort of true teleport jutsu then. Maybe it's like he summons himself to wherever he made the mark?

im sure the teleport jutsu can be done by loads of shinobis...but no one else comes close to yondaime in terms of the speed in executing it.

imagine a rock jounin (well im assuming here because kage bushin is a technique only known to jounins and above) cant even see him coming...woah...that speaks volume about the incredible speed that he executes the jutsu.
best part in emphasising the speed is where he reached the rock jounin's back when yondaime's bag havent even touch the floor yet...
i got to say hes really awesome...

and definitely its great to learn more about one of my fav character, kakashi....i really feel for him now by knowing his sad past...

I was all tsk-tsking on what a pompous tightass Kakashi was as a kid but Kishiman just had to leap ahead of us and add more layers to that enigmatic ninja :p I guess Kishimoto-san isn't that predictable after all, despite his fondness for parallels :)

Kakashi's father's name is written in Katakana, but I am going to hazard a guess that his name is a play off of 作物 Sakumotsu which means produce/crops which is something you would find in a 畑 (Hatake) field.

Edit: It seems like Chidori will keep running as long as it isn't released, and it also seems to be useful in going through anything that gets in your way.

You're absolutely right about Yondaime being really cool. But being the 'new' character and observing his skills for the first time naturally makes him the object of interest. The Gaiden is still all about Kakashi although it wouldn't be so good if the people around were insubstantial.

Dang, poor kid to have gone through all that at such a young age. No wonder he looks so surly. Isn't it funny how sharp the contrast is between young Kakashi and the older one now that we know his past? Just finding out why he changes so much will make for a great series.

For the record, "Shunshin no jutsu" is literally "instant body technique," which is essentually the idea of a "teleport." The shocking part wasn't that Yondaime can do it, since it seems to be a basic high-level technique. It's the fact that he did it so fast. Take Raido teleporting down to Genma during the chuunin exams, ; he had to make the seal, disappeared, then a moment later appeared near Genma. With Yondaime, it was more like he dropped off Kakashi, Rin blinked, and the Stone nin was dead :)

it seems that before the sharingan, kakashi is able to use chidori for a long period of time. like he said, using both at once is sort of like 'sploding a bunch of your chakra. apparently, using just one or the other doesn't drain nearly as much chakra, even over a longer period of time, as using both at once, even for a very short time. that would be awesome to watch, a chidori that just keeps going and going. kakashi could plow fields at record speeds! :D
