Anime like Hamtaro are not normally watched by adults, but anime with more complex storyline are watched by people of different ages.

Thats a long sentence, consider punctuation marks.

Love of anime has no age bounds, though some content might be disturbing to some age groups.

Anime is such a broad category of works with so many varied themes that age is more or less irrelevant. I think the sub-genre of hentai emphasizes that.

You can easily compare the age variance with other wide categories:
Music: Barney & Friends songs versus Barry Manilow
American Animation: The Magic School Bus versus Futurama
Television: Teletubbies versus Star Trek
Movies: Snow White and the Sever Dwarfs versus Mona Lisa Smile
Novels: The Lost Years of Merlin versus Dune
Anime: Yu-Gi-Oh versus Speed Grapher

There are many different genres of anime which are suitable for all ages much like how there are various types of movies.

And is this the right section to post this thread?

Well, when you think about it Anime = Cartoon, which many people find childish.

But, IMO, no. Since a hell of a lot of anime is rated R, 16+ etc....

does age matter when it comes to anime? only when you want it to. i don't care about age, but my focus shifts slightly depending on my mood and current "matureness".

Lexiefaye

Moved to Konoha TV because directed at anime watchers.

I tend to have a very liberal approach towards children and think that censoring them from quality entertainment and culture because of adult content is a bummer so I don't censor. For example, if I was running things at CN I wouldnt edit Naruto's violence even in the younger ago block of toonami. But thats just me. So I think Naruto is appropriate for most ages but I don't think it will be appreciated fully by people under the age of 11 or so.

u no dats how i exactly feel depending on how i feel my mood makes me shift one way to another an i then start 2 think which really makes me :mad but the next day im back on it so really its depends on a persons state of mind at the time.

There are different types of anime out there, obviously some are for kids and directly for kids like those education/pointless shows where everyone is happy such as Harukaze Doremi.

Other anime is for little kids ~tweens~ where there's action for boys, or light comedy and adventure for girls such as Hamtarou, Aishiteruze Baby, and Naruto.

Next there's anime for teens, where it typically but not always sets place in high school life. There are a lot of comedy, romance, drama, and fantasy titles in this category, and you probably already know them.

After that, there's a thin line between older teen - adult anime, such as Speed Grapher that might be considered only for adults, but it's not as extreme.

Then of course, only for adult such as hentai (and anything else that falls under this category such as yaoi, yuri etc.) But kids everywhere get their hands on it -_-

So not all anime is for kids, just because it's drawn doesn't mean it's Bugs Bunny stuff. Japan is very diffferent.

it doesn't matter at all.. anime is for people in general.. so it doesn't matter if a 30 year old watched hamtaro or DiGi Charat.. its just different from person to person really :)

I think it depends on the person.
Maybe you think I'm a pussy.. but when I watched Kenshin OVA (with the blood and stuff) when I was 16 or so, I got a little sick and saw somewhat black spots before my eyes.
It happens when I'm thinking too much about the stuff that is happening in the video that I'm watching.
Back in the days when I watched ogrisch.com (that nasty site), sometimes it didn't bother me. But when I was thinking too much about it.. I got sick again.. :p

I thought this was a thread about old anime, but I guess I was wrong. Age doesn't matter when it comes to enjoying entertainment or art. Sure some may think that specific forms of entertainment and art are directed toward kids, however that doesn't necessarily make it the truth. Animation is a medium, and anime consists of a wide range of genres, some for children, some for teenagers and even a few for adults. However most anime is targeted at teens and kids, but this doesn't mean adults cant enjoy it. Just like adults can enjoy "children" books very much. A lot of anime has the same level of maturity as many of the major movies coming out such as Star Wars, Spiderman, X-men, King Kong etc. Targeted at teens, but adults usually like it as well.

There is far more manga targeted at mature audiences than anime though.

Age dosen't really matter in my opinion but if you're too young / lack real life experiences, it might be hard to relate to things happening in animes.

That's my two cents anyway. And as Raistlin-sama said, mangas tend to be directed towards an older (more mature) audience.

Animes are made with a particular age group in mind, but it isn't the age you must be to watch.

Does age matter?! Fuckin..............No!
Like alot of these guys have said it's meant for all ages, all that matters is what you think. I think anime is teh rawest shit EVER! but that's just me...

to be asking such a question in an anime forum is not really a great idea if you wan't more than one answer really.
So if you ask in some other forums they would probobly say, you're a fag or something similar to that....
But most of the people who say something like that has just seen childish anime like yugioh or pokemon, and claims that every anime is like that.
Somtimes when people ask me what I like to do, I often say,
"I like to watch anime" and then they like "Oh it's like, chinese shit right?"
but the fact that I visit these forums once in a while and often watch or mostly read the naruto manga and anime, proves that I who turns 19 this year is still watching anime, why? cuz I enjoy it. allthough it hasn't been as much as before i still watch it.
so in my years of anime watching I've seen alot of series and there is an anime for everyone.

Age does matter because I wouldn't be comfortable showing my 5 yr old nephew the Uncensored version of Girls Bravo :wink

But if it's what I'm thinking your trying to ask, then anime for the most part has no age limit, in other words, your never too old to watch anime :amuse

Heck, I love watching Beyblade and pokemon, and I have no problem admitting it ^_^
