Probably the same reason Ace has the same symbol on his back in the One Piece manga.
Or not...
Actually heck if I know why.

From what I understand, it's not a swastika, it's a backwards one, well, rather, the swastika is a backwards Buddhist (?) symbol or something...
But the anime and manga has covered the reason why he has that seal on his forehead.

It is called the Omote Manji, it is a buddist symbol for good luck.(I don't quite get that connectoin to Neji though, there is also a Ura Manji which is a Swaztika at a 45 degree angle.)

the mark on nejis head is a cursed seal .. you can learn all about it if you watch or read the chunin exam arch from the preliminary finals hinata vs neji to the finals neji vs naruto.
on a side note the symbol has nothing at all to do with nazi. its some budist symbol. symbols like that are actually very old the nazis just bastardized one from an old roman or germanic symbol and made it their own.
sad really.
the nazi symbol rotates in the oposite direction and it tilted differently.
actually many budists get offended by the comparison. to them it is TOTALY differnt. confusing the budist symbol for the nazi symbol is like confusing a pluss sighn with a christian cross.

Neji has that symbol on his forehead because he is a member of the Aryan nation. I thought this was common knowledge.

Its a special type of ninjutsu that is only known by the leaders of the head hyuuga family. The symbol itself is some sort of buddist symbol. Not related to Nazism at all.

The Swastika on Neji's forehead is the same on all Hyuuga Branch members. It is the symbol of the Cursed seal, of how they are caged birds.
In the anime, the curse seal was modified to be an "X" for obvious reasons.

It's because the anime is more censored than the manga. The Swaztika has been used all around the world long before the nazis. A Swedish company used to have a Swaztika as their symbol before the nazis came to power in the early 30s. And in hunduism and buddhism it has been and still is a common symbol (both the counter-clockwise and the clockwise versions).
As the others have said, it is a symbol found in both Hinduism and Buddhism, though not exclusive to those two:
The swastika is a cross with its arms bent 90° to either right or left. It is usually oriented horizontally or at a 45° angle. Its Indian form typically features a dot in each quadrant. The swastika has been an important device in Hindu, Buddhist, Japanese, Navajo, Norse, and many other cultures. The symbol was adopted by the Nazi Party in Germany in the 1930s. Due to the Nazi Party's actions in World War II, the swastika has come to be seen as signifying fascism and Nazism in the modern Western world.
The word is a loan from Sanskrit svastika signifying any lucky or auspicious object, and in particular a mark made on persons and things to denote good luck.
In Japan, the swastika, called manji, is an ancient religious symbol. A manji appeared on a certain Pokémon playing card sold in Japan. Because of its resemblance to the Nazi swastika, the card was altered for Western translations. On Japanese town plans, a swastika (left-facing and horizontal) is commonly used to mark the location of a Buddhist temple.
The swastika appears in art and design throughout human history, symbolising many different things; such as luck, Brahma, the Hindu concept of samsara, or Surya (the sun).
Here's where I think it applies to Neji. The term 'samsara' denotes the concept of a sea of fate, one in which human beings are "trapped" (depending on how you wish to look at it) in an endless cycle of birth and rebirth, bound by causal actions and reactions. Sound familiar?

The nazi swastika is facing the opposite way of Neji's. The symbol on Neji's head has been used by Native Americans as well as Buddhists.

i think kishimato wants us to believe that the symbol on neji represents the nazi's swastika. we all hate nazi and wish them to be outcasts; same reason goes to the bakuyugan's branch families

the "backwards" swastika was actually the original one... it meant peace or something... nazi's flipped it arund and made it their symbol.

There's nothing wrong with the swastika whichever way you flip it. If there're any negative impressions to be gleaned from it, it'll be from the evil deeds of the Nazis. They needed a symbol when they formed their party decades ago, so they just chose the swastika for some reason I forgot. It's in a history book somewhere.
I suppose it can't be helped that the image of swastika will be tainted for a very long time.
As long as we don't see any *misinformed people* running around confusing Buddhism/Hinduism with Nazism and making a din about it, it should be fine. =)

Here is the explanation: Here (http://www.encyclopedia-online.info/Swastika) and Here (http://history1900s.about.com/cs/swastika/a/swastikahistory.htm) and Here (http://www.intelinet.org/swastika/swasti01.htm#anchor39456) and Here (http://www.intelinet.org/swastika/swasti02.htm) and Here (http://web.singnet.com.sg/~sidneys/Swastika.htm) and Here (http://www.locksley.com/6696/swastick.htm)
Stop to talk about it. Yet you all know what it is. Why do you have do discuss the thing again and again? NS or national socialistics sound better.

The nazi mark is called a "swashtika", or "bird in a cage". During Nazi Germany, Hitler gave little or no freedom to the people living there.
This also implies to Neji becuase his curse mark slowly kills him if he disobeys the main house meaning that he must obey ALL their wishes hence "bird in a cage"
But yeah I dont understand why its put on backwards
Also Hitler believed that ALL the people in the world have destinies they cannot change. For example, people with blond hair and blue eyes. Hitler believed that blond hair blue eyes means they are blessed by God and they are destined to live while all other hair colors and eye colors should die. He believed those features cannot change.
*Spoiler* Neji said that people discriminate agiainst others for physical features.
And Hitler discriminated against alot of people.

First, it's NOT a Swaztika, ,it is called a MANJI.
Second, there are two kinds of Manji Omote and Ura.
Omote means love and mercy, the Ura represents Strength and Intelligence.
Neji has the Omote Manji on his head.
The Swaztika is the Ura Manji at a 45 Degree angle.
The Manji itself means universal harmony, and the balance of opposites.
The Manji is made up of several elements- a vertical axis representing the joining of heaven and earth, a horizontal axis representing the connection of yin and yang, and the four arms, representing movement- the whirling force created by the interaction of these elements.
So please stop calling it a Swaztika.

I learnt this about three years ago, so I might be wrong, but if I remember correctly, the Nazis didnt just decide to bastardise an existing symbol. The swastika used by the Nazis (which is an abrevated form of National Socialists, fact fans) is actualy a heavily stylised version of crossed swords.
I know the point has already be proved many times over, but I thought I'd just throw the only bit of swastika related knowledge i have that hasnt been used here already.

People read into things too much...The swastika was in use by the Nazis when they were just an ordinary politcal party. They wernt always bent on oppression, genocide and world domination, you know.

That is true, many people don't realize that. But when hitler took over he basically destroyed any good or half decent view on nazis.

you are actually correct. That same mistake was made with a Pokemon trading card, which is why it was not released--*ahem* ANYWAYS  it is NOT a Nazi symbol. The one on Neji is backwards. ^_^

It's called a manji in Japanese, and I honestly don't remember what the hell it means, but I remember it doesn't mean "nazi". Interestingly enough, that symbol is also the "ban" in "bankai" (for all you Bleach fans). So maybe this means that Neji has a bankai.

It's not a Swastika, it's a Manji. It is the Ban in Bankai to ^, and the hand guard on Ichigo's zanpakuto is a Manji during Bankai (look closely)
