How long will One Piece last?

With 40 volumes, it's no surprise One Piece is already a friggin huge series. However, when will it really end?

We still have six Warlords of the Sea, Admirals of the Marine Force, two "Elemental" Devil Fruit users, Shanks, Blackbeard, Whitebeard, people to fill in Luffy's crew (although unconfirmed), and "One Piece". This could end up making the series become extremely long.

Let's not even mention how Eneru and Aoijiki is still living, so that extends it even more.

When will it end? Is 100 volumes not enough? More? 200 volumes? I wouldn't be surprised.

What I really fear is if Oda, as godly as he is, will finally be out of ideas. One brain can only do so much and with so many things in store, he may not be able to think creatively for all of them and One Piece's popularity will soon diminish.

So, how long do you think One Piece will last? Do you think Oda is up to it? Will the popularity live?

Anyway, Oda made that "half way through" remark in Sky Piea. Quite AWHILE ago. So, I'd say it's safe to believe Oda overestimated how long he'd make his own story.

I can see One Piece easily going for another 300 chapters. Which is cool with me...One Piece only gets better and better, imo.

Unlike many other mangas that tend to stagnate after awhile, One Piece just gets better and better over time. I'll be happy to see Oda continue the series for as long as he wants to. ^_^

Nah, Dragon Ball/Z had a grand total of 42 volumes. It had a lot of chapters, though, because each chapter was only 14 pages long, compared to 19 for OP.

Anyway... I think Oda didn't really mean the halfway point for the series in numeric terms, because... that's just not going to happen. He probably meant more to do with the phases of the story.

Think about it, what happened in the Skypeia arc? Basically three things: Luffy defeated one of the strongest people in the OP world, we got more information on the True History, and Going Merry was wrecked.

It was the point in the series where the Straw Hats stopped being a group of little pirates and started being more important. Luffy showed that he could fight people like Eneru, meaning the Straw Hats became a military threat. The plot moved on from just exploring the Grand Line to Robin's search for the True History, which was tied into the story of the Straw Hats and made more important by the fact that the Pirate King was the person who found it. And Going Merry was destroyed, which is what forces the Straw Hats to abandon their tiny little ship in favour of what is going to be the best pirate ship ever.

The Water 7 arc had all of its seeds planted in Skypeia. The Weapons, the True History, the need for a ship, the evolution of Luffy's powers... It was the point of no return for the Straw Hats. Sure, Luffy had a decent bounty for beating Crocodile, but he was still a small fry then.

The manga could go on for another 1000 chapters, but Skypeia would still be where everything changed.

It's all a matter of his will to create and continue, and from the looks of chapters, the excitement and level of creativity either stays consistant until he raises the bar another knotch. There are so many things to be resolved and so many ways it could go, but Oda will surely find a great way to deliver it to all of us.

OP is so different from DBZ in all aspects, like TenshiOni said it only gets better! So I would really like to see a lot of more chapters before it ends..

currently at tis moment OP is at volume 42 going to 43... pages whilst.. every chapter there is around 20 pages, so tat makes (405*20)=8100 pages so far..
the longest running manga should be Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikouen-mae Hashutsujo by Osamu Akimoto at 140+ volume(it started in 1976)..

i do wish tat OP can go on as long as possible cos i believe tat no matter how long the manga can get the story will never be dull!!!

One Piece will surely be one of the greatest manga series of all time. it is the most popular manga series in Japan, the capital of manga and the most reliable appraiser for manga quality..
One Piece is the most original and wacky manga out there.. the style and humor is truly unique and superb..

by the time one piece is done, all of the crew members will have their dreams come true. chopper will probably find some kind of medicine that can cure anything (not sure about this), sanji will find the all blue, nami will get way over a 100 belli after finding one piece, zoro will probably fight mihawk at Raftel (or whatever the last island was called) and thus become the greatest swordsman, robin will find the last poneglyph on Raftel and finally know the true history, usopp, not too sure, but he'll probably (in some way or another) have to fight his father when the straw hats meet shanks, and luffy will find one piece. All of this has to happen, plus a whole lot more, so it'll last for a long, long, long time... i want to be oda apprentice n.n

I think and hope One Piece isn't even halfway yet. True to what everybody said, the series just gets better and better. I dont want it to end so soon. Beyond the red line the seas gets more and more dangerous right!? only the greatest of the greatest of pirates are there. So there'll be more interesting arc yet to come and i believe each arc will be as long or even longer that skypiea bcoz there are more things to tell and revealed. Straw Hat encountering Red Hair, Zorro vs. Mihawk, the remaining members of the crew (total 10, currently 6), the will of the D, Ancient Weapon, Elbaf and a whole lot more...

My wildest guess is that until Ennies Lobby its only 1/3 of the story.

I'll believe a place is the halfway point when the manga is actually over and the final chapter was that chapter x 2.

I don't really mind that it's long but the thing with such a long manga is that how many more years is it going to be until it has finished? I mean the rate it's going i'll probably be 30! Will I even care when i'm that age? I mean it started way back in 1999, so it's taken 6 years only to get half way through the story, you would have to be a hardcore fan to keep up with it. I enjoy one piece and do think the story gets better but I just don't know if if I can wait so long.

In the manga, it said that there is over 1500 islands I think, and the one piece crew hasn't even went to a fraction of that many islands...

Anyway, I have a good idea how it will end. Luffy will probably die the same way Gol D. Roger died, and he'll laugh.

Now it is time to begin... FOUR PIECE! Luffy will travel around East, South, North, and West Blue!!

The lenght cant really be judged from the series so far,I mean,who,from all people who have been following it since it began,fought it would reach chapter 436 and not be ene half-way through (small indication-we do not know most memebrs of the shichibukai,one admiral,two emperors-think just how long it took for the few we DO know to get introduced-plus count into it the unresolved,living enemis (although Enel could one day return,the series could jump the shark at that point) like Wapol or Kuro may not return so easily-(and at points it would only be extension on for the sake of quality)- but i wonder-remember how Morgan escaped a WHOLE while back?Something tells me Oda will have to show us what happens/ed to him now,or no one will remember him anymore-also,he seems to return the smaller pirates into play- Buggy,although he is now WAY bellow Luffy's level and the crew has grown in number and strenght as well,he's stil out for Luffy.If he wasnt Oda's favourite villian (as he stated),I don't think he would actualy be stil around (a litle misjudgement of Oda's,possibly-at the begining he may not have known to WHAT level of strenght the main chracters will rise and so made Buggy on the level he has.
Note:One think could also happen-Smoker could definitly grow discusted of the NAVY and leave.If he'll opose the high members of the Marine directly,like he indirectly did when he let Luffy escape in Rain Base,he would get an extra load with the betrayl he had done when he left his post and so deserted.
On a side note:The government will probably use different forces to act,because the last CP ,the strongest ahs been defeated and the leader of another (CP6-Jerry) has shown himself to be pretty weak.

Agreed One piece is a nice Anime and im not even doubting once that itl end around now But i dont exactly like the Ships Head thingy :( it looks like a teddy bear for Pirate's sake! Merry's was Better
