I laugh at this thread. Gundam Wing is properly the worst Gundam series ever created. And really, stop comparing it only to Seed and start comparing it to some UC. Gundam 0079, 08th MS team, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Char's counterattack, Gundam F91 and Gundam Victory are all better.

As for AU stuff, I liked Turn A Gundam (well, kind of both AU and UC), Gundam Seed, and G Gundam a lot more than Wing as well.

I don't mean to be a flaming Wing-hater, but really, that's just crap.

Wing had it's moments, and with that I mean the gundams in it and the badguys (more specifically; Zechs and Treize). Thoes two were the ones together with Duo who made the anime interesting and good to watch sometimes.

The others? Wu Fei. In short, a supposed martial artist who speaks of fairness in fights when he's trampling down people in a robot that can hardly be damaged. Fair? Yeah right. Quatre? I don't even want to start. His character was just in the way and his Newtype-like reactions with whatever that girl with the huge eyebrows was called (Dorothy or something) were just silly. The only thing that was good with him was that he introduced you to the Maguanac Corps, who on the other hand, were a bunch of really cool guys. Heero? A cyborg more or less. Probably the most unlikeable character in the anime. He was totally devoid of feelings towards things other than when he failed his mission. I'd say he was just a puppet with little or no free will at all. I wouldn't even begin comparing him to other maincharacters in gundam animes like Kira, Kamille or Uso.

Who did I miss? Oh right, Trowa Barton of course. He was kinda cool at times, but had a pointless gundam which only seemed to run out of bullets. Other than that, he didn't add much to the story. He was a retard when he had his memories, and when he lost them, well, I can't say he got any better in that aspect. He was overshadowed by the others who made a better job (Duo, Zechs and Treize).

Did I forget anyone else? Oh well.

And I don't understand this Sound-Nin Kin Tsuchi. How can you say that SEED is more of a girly anime when the only thing Wing contained was Bishounens (= SUPER-GOOD LOOKING GUYS)? I just don't understand. Either you're blind or we didn't watch the same anime. Well, that's my two cents regarding that.

Anyway. I said I wouldn't compare Wing or Heero with other animes or characters, but I'll go ahead with it anyway to make my point.

First of all, let's take an overall look at pros and cons with both animes. I'll use Gundam Wing and Victory as examples.

Victory Gundam:

+Good story.

+Good variety of characters.

+Actually had characters that were important dying in the anime.

+Good mecha.

+Characters that had a soul and really acted like people, not robots (Heero...)

+Good badguys.

+Good cannonfodder mechs, they put up some resistance before they died. Sure, thoes mobile dolls did a great job, but then: ENTER ZERO SYSTEM.

-The main character is a little kid, but even so, he does a much better job than most of the Wing cast.

-Lame mothership name / design.

-Strange names of the different factions, not that OZ made any sense either.

Gundam Wing:

+Very nice gundam designs, the other mechs sucked mostly except for the Maguanac Corps and the Endless Waltz mecha.

+Good variety of fighting enviroments. Not just in space, not just on green plains.

+Good badguys, as I pointed out earlier.

-Too much hypocrisy. "Let's not fight!" and stuff. I appreciate the effort but in the end, the purpose of the anime is to show how terrible war is.

-No depth in characters, most seemed like puppets.

-The Zero System. A completely unnecessary thing. They wasted so many episodes on how psycho everyone got, but in the end, it was like the Zero System wasnt there.

-No feelings included in anything. Heero blasting colony representatives into smithereens in a shuttle and screaming "IT'S MY FAULT!" isn't really the feelings you'd want in an anime. I appreciate feelings like "You bastard! You killed Nicol! Next time, you're done for bastard!"

That's my two cents anyway.

Do post something more indepth so we can have a proper discussion here.

KOJI DARTH: Why does Wing own all others? That is what I hate the most about many Wingers. I'm not saying all of them are like that, but sadly, many are. They have no arguments about why Wing is the best gundam. Most of them are just idiots who think they have something to use as reference when they saw Wing on Cartoon Network and right after it was Pokémon or Beyblade that had something similar to a mecha in it. That's not reference. No, come back when you've seen at least one or two of the Universal Century animes. Then you have some good reference.

(Note: The Pokémon and Beyblade stuff was just to make an example, I'm not saying you actually did that. Or wait... did you!?)

Again. Post something more indepth. It's sickening to watch others degrade an anime with no arguments to support them.

Oh yeah. Forgot to comment about that 'panzy' remark you did. You can't have much experience in movies or any animes in general. The thing that makes a movie or anime interesting is all the different (here is the keyword, so listen closely children)

SEED, well i saw this one in CN, my first impressions for seed were bad... but when i saw the whole thing, i liked it way better than wing... then i saw UC0079... the original gundam in animax... i laughed at the animation and the original opening song which was really just said the word gundam in almost every line:P but hell the story was so compelling and great... i got hooked... then Zeta and then ZZ... i also saw CCA last year... its still confuses me even after i watched it 2x... but it was good...

oh one more thing why i think wing sucks compared to other gundam series (well exept for G) well i saw it once, and never saw it again... with the exemption of EW which i saw 2x... for the others, i saw them like 3-4x especially SEED... which i have a copy of... UC, i saw them also arround 3x because they just re-run the eps 3x everyday...

and one last thing... i promise this is the last thing... EW really annoyed me and confused me... it was like there was no story at all... they just wanted huge gigantic robots to fight and shoot eachother to smithereens and drop a colony onto earth just for fun...

I have to agree with Mindless and Ssouske, Gundam Wing just isn't very good compare to the other Gundam series. It wasn't that bad the first time I watched it but I rewatched it after seeing Seed, Victory, Zeta, and ZZ and it took every ounce of willpower I had to sit though a episode and was just so boring. Not as a bash, I like Destiny, G, and SEED, although Wing is utter crap(only SD is worse).

Familiarize yourselves with the work of Yoshiyuki Tomino. Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, etcetera. Everything you could want. Great, complex characters, complicated stories where the 'good side' has flawed characters, and corrupt politicians, and the 'bad side' has sympathetic soldiers fighting for them.

Deep romances, complex storylines, characters with a reason to fight.

I'd like to see someone try and argue that Wing's pretty boys are more interesting then Amuro, Char, and Kamille.

G is still great, too. With great romance(even better then UC), and purposefully cheezy stories and Gundams that made for great comedy. And a UC like feel with the 'nature and saving the earth' stories.

Destiny was really good too(until Kira took over at the end). Shinn exemplified the great aspects of Gundam characters.

But no Gundam series is as good as Zeta Gunam.

Period.

well actually, the enemies had good aim... its just that those gundams had that super invincible Gundarium Alloy armor which almost no weapon can seem to destroy... i completely remember the final battle in EW... they were taking hits but it was as if they were on GOD MODE or something... the only one that really got damaged for some really stupid reason was WZC... and even though those serpents hit it with those pea shooter vulcan cannons, it never did a scratch on WZC...

Or well, it depends on which gundam you compare it with. If it's SD Gundam, then it's definately deep, if it's with Z or MSG you compare, it's like a puddle of water in the street after it has rained.

You bring up good points about it, Characters were weak among other things but, I enjoyed it because nearly every episode there was action (yes I love when things go boom).

I only saw a little bit of Gundam Seed (dubs on cartoon network) I though it was mearly OK, Nice charcters, low on action and what action there was was really one sided (I mean come on kira who has had no combat experiance at all is wiping the floor with expirianced soldiers (poor desert tiger :cry ) and personally I don't like Kira's character because it seems like a copy off of Shinji from Evangelion

The original Gundam series was a nice balance and some good action I though it was good. I don't remember much of it but I know I liked it because it was what got be hooked on Anime. (haven't seen it since watching the dubs on cartoon network)

So....in conclusion
The best Gundam series really depends on what you like to watch in a Anime, Gundam wing > Gundam seed in terms of action
Gundam Seed > Gundam Wing in terms of characters actually acting like humans

-Gundam Wing had most of my favorite gundams, I didn't like the story and most of the Char's, but it had some of the best fights and Gundams in my opinion.

-Seed is better because the charactures feel like they could properly function in a real world enviroment, relativly as much as anime charactures can, and the fight's were cool when they happened, also they had the Freedom!(almost cooler than Deathscythe, almost).

-SD gundam suked and thats it!

-G Gundam had cool fights and bashed America hard(Domon ties with the 3 others but mercilessly destroyies America like nothing) and the idea wasnt half bad.

-8th MS team rocked, cool attention to detail, and story/plot kept me wishing for more.

-Other's havent seen yet or dont remeber!

Well I'm not a huge Gundam fan,mostly because I thought that everyone in Gundam wing was a complete idiot. I mean, Quatre was a pussy, Heero was the token main character in love with a token main female character. I liked Wing alot, I wouldn't call it the best though. In fact, I probably wouldn't say that about any of the gundam series.

I liked the characters in Wing because most of their problems didn't have to do with flowery geopolitics, though there is the everpresent theme of fighting for a political idea there. I found the most compelling conflicts in Wing were in the subconsciouses of the characters, like Heero, who is supposed to be this emotionless killer, but ends up caring about this random girl he met and over the course of the series remembers alot of emotional things.

And mobile suits of this era wern't given the ability to spam like Freedom Gundam often did. Wing Gundams buster rifle had 3 shots, I doubt Kira couldn't make use of all 3 shots effectively. lol
