In the semi new chapter of one piece Kokoro-san said that she lent Luffy the Rocketman just as Tom-san gave Gold Roger his ship, because both Luffy and Gold Roger were complete idiots. Thing ish I have about this is the fact that Gold Roger could read poneglyphs. Now it took Robin 7 years or something to learn to read the poneglyphs. If Roger was equally as stupid as Luffy, how did he learn. He was born in Lougetown, not Raftel so he wasn't born with the innate trait to read poneglyphs, so I have to ask, anyone have a theory on how this works?

having a shipwright make you a ship doesnt make you an idiot. it just means you needed a ship. I don't understand what evidence you have to suggest that Gold Roger was an idiot. As for him being able to read poneglyphs; I absolutely have no idea. maybe he just had a lot of study time, like any language its learned not genetic.
He could learn how to read them while sailing. From where?
Well.. Roger maybe had a lot of books about it.
And.. Was he executed, like, 20 years ago?
How old was he? 50? Means he was born 70 years ago.. Maybe some books and archeologists were still alive..
And the final (probably the most retarded) version.. He ate the special devil fruit that gives you ability to read them :oh

Kokoro:That Roger fella...
Was stupid like this one is...
That's why you gave 'im your help...
And here we are again,
alla Tom's Workers helping out a pirate boy...!!

I think she meant it in the fact that all of the Straw Hats were going up against the World Government. Not that he was Luffy-Stupid.

I doubt it was complete idiots, I think she said they were both fools. You can be foolish without being stupid.

The "stupid" in that line probably meant that Luffy and Gol D. Roger were both hard-headed and wouldn't give up on their dream even if the whole world was against them. Not stupid = dumb as a rock.
IMO anyway.

ahh, okay. other theories is that he had; a) crewmate who could read it to him, b)found a poneglyph translation book drifting in the sea after the ohara incident c) the "stupid" indicated here may mean stubborn, crazy, fool. certain meanings can be lost in translation.

The greatest geniouses were and are often called fools. So nothing new under the sun.

She didn't say they were idiots, she just meant reckless. Those are two completely different things. Gold Roger was probably a fairly intellectual individual since he was involved with the True History somehow. Again, she meant 'reckless', not idiot.

I'd also think she meant foolish, especially given that there was a short flashback to Luffy saying he was the next pirate king just before that.
