I would like to ask whats is your favorite author, but we would see all kind of names here, so lets close our options for now... I'll start with the americans, since they are probably the most translated authors, and most people here read in english, so chances are the most people have a favorite american author, even if they are not american (I'm not, by the way). Just remember, I'm not saying american writers are better than others, its just a start...
So who is your favorite american author?

I have two: J.D. Salinger and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Salinger is the author of "The Catcher in the Rye", famous romance. Other than that, he wrote many short stories, and its a book called "Nine Stories" - that has nine short stories - that is my personal favorite.
F. Scott Fitzgerald is the author of "Tender is the Night", "The Great Gatsby", and a few other romances. He was also famous for his short stories. All his books are great, but "Tender is the Night" is my favorite.

Most of my favorite authors are Italian, and the one I want to say I can't remember his name. Fitzgerald is one of my faves though, so I'll just say him.

Ugh...I thought about it and I realized that my very favorite authors are all British...

But I thought about it more, and I came up with these:

Tamora Pierce (Tortall books, Circle books)
Ann Brasharas (Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants)
Bruce Coville (Juvenile Science Fiction -- What can I say? I love kids' books...:laugh )
Patricia Wrede (Dealing with Dragons books)

I think that's it...At least that's all I can think of right now...

Fitzgerald was good. Only read "The Great Gatsby" though.

Another is Jonathan Safran Foer. "Everything Is Illuminated" destroyed me completely when I read it a couple of years ago. I actually fell in love with it, like a girl. I talked, nor thought about anything else for a good week, then I bought four more copies and gave them to friends and family.

That was trippy.

I've been getting into H.P Lovecraft lately. Just the world he creates and the mood of it all. The "cthuhlu mythos" is my favorite set of his stories, though. And garth nix. To me he's one of the more original authors out there that I've read. Good stuff.
