The battle has begun. Your favorite books battle it out. How, might you ask? Quite simple. Name a book, and wait for someone to challenge you with another book. Then, others judge to see which book they perfer. Well, what are you waiting for? Get to it!:nuts

Not fair. There should be a rule against cosmics. I'll say... The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (written by Donaldson, who is claimed to be better than Tolkien in writing ability).

i'll say the lord of the rings takes the cake. not to mention, most likely everyone else will say the lord of the rings, so this guy wins! the bible on the other hand, i'm not gonna challenge, and i don't think anyone else should, you'll get rep to, but, stay off holy books.

I got a rep :lmao
Just to let you know, you can't rep until you have 50 posts. Otherwise, what you give out is just a null rep. By the way, rep game isn't allowed in NF so I suggest you remove this line:The winner gets rep :)

So are we sticking with the The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant? Since I haven't read the book I can't begin to critic it, however, I will cite Ovids Metamorphesis as something that likely trumps it. If were only using books that were written in the 20 and 21st century, and that are written in the traditional novel format, I cite: Down and Out in Paris by George Orwell, Psychomech by Brian lumley or Fallen Dragons by Peter Hamilton.
Thomas Covenant series wins IF we discount the outside world building of JRR's feverish mind.
'Down and Out' is ok, but not awesome, Orwell is generally held to be a superior essayist and journalist than novelist, though I guess 'Down and Out' could be called an extended essay on life below the poverty line? Haven't read your other two suggestions so no comment ^.^
'Invisible Cities' - Italo Calvino; the most beautiful book ever crafted. Tying in nicely Ovid's Metamorphoses was one of Calvino's own favourites, so you're in good company. However, technically Ovid didn't write most (all?) of the tales in his work, he just combined and edited them for a Roman readership, albeit ingeniously.
