How did Luffy learn do Gear Second?

It's great Luffy has gotten stronger for the sake of his nakama, but when did Luffy learn this or how did he know about the stronger levels of devil fruits?

Also I have a theory that Gear Second is kinda like the Zoan fruits how the Zoan allow the user to have 3 forms so Gear Second is something like that kinda like DBZ's super saiyen (and please do not post here if you just want to complain about power ups).

Do you also think that other devil fruits have this Gear Second like Robin can go Gear Second?

do u remember Luffy say tat he saw Blueno kick the floor more than 10 time before he move? (chapter 388 page 9)
do u recall seeing seeing Luffy legs turning into many layers when he was talking about protecting his nakama (chapter 387 page 18)
i believe, and rather firmly, tat Luffy found a way to kick the floor many many times with the enhanced legs before he make a move to create a sudden burst of speed..
and i also believe tat with his rubber body the amount of time he can kick might be more!!! his speed might > CP9!!!!

He didn't learn it.

Juss like he didn't learn Gomu Gomu no Bazooka.


He made this technique up himself. And he thought it up when he realized he had to get stronger, after his fight with Ao Kiji.

This is a technique, not a Devil Fruit ability. To put it simply, he Volcanizes his rubber body, making it very warm/hot or what not. If you take rubber and make it hot, it will bend and stretch much easier and faster than before.


As for his super speed. I believe he literally mimiced the CP9's style of quick movement. So he saw how they move at that speed, and did the same.

It's almost guarenteed that it was the process of volcanization, as Shishou stated above. So essentially, Luffy now has met one of the criteria of the 6 super-human attributes. Also, at the end of the fight, it seemed Luffy was going to take it up another knotch, which suggests a 'Gear Third' of some sorts.

as for the explantion how he came up with the idea to use heat to make himself faster:

maybe he got some experiences in the eneru (the gold spear, he could have noticed that the aera where the spear hit him moves much fatser then before) and the ako ji fight (when itwas cold maybe he was a little bit slower) but thats just speculation

I agree with Shishou, this wasn't something like with the Zoan fruit, he made this thing up on his own. In a way, Luffy actually is very smart... when it comes to battling at least. Remember when he fought Crocodile and noticed he couldn't transform when ouching water? Then he was somehow able to create water Luffy, I don't think he even explained how. The simple fact of the matter is that he knows his body, he knows how to do things with it and can create very awesome techniques like Gear Second. It's all about thinking deeply about your powers and all the ways in which you can use them.

That's why Luffy is such a good fighter. He thinks and acts fast. Although he acts stupid most of the time, when he needs to act as a captain or to kick someone else ass, he's the best for the job.

Do u remember when chopper fought against the priest in skypiea(i forgot a bit about the manga) but in the anime he used, jet punch...or something like this...
Could this be the second gear of luffy?

No, because the priest used Dials to do his Jet Punch. And we don't see any Dials on Luffy.

If your going to make this theory you have to notice that jet puch and jet pistol look different

When Luffy uses Jet pistol he used pressurized air and shoots it at his opponent where as jet punch is just a instant excellarated punch
