Naruto-One Piece-Bleach-Hunter x Hunter

This thread is to give your opinions about the strongest and weakest points of each series. It's hard to said what series is better overall....you can like one more than other....so...I try to detach the series into different categories to evaluate them. I'll give you my ranks.

Plot: Referred to the story in general. The potential inside the manga to develop in something great or if the story itself hasn't too much to tell.

1-Naruto
2-HunterxHunter
3-Bleach
4-One Piece

Narrative: How the mangaka makes the story works. If the facts are coherent, if the story don't lose its initial touch....if even after 200 chapters the story isn't repetitive, if the fights are credible inside the context of the series, etc.

1-Hunter x Hunter
2-Naruto
3-One Piece
4-Bleach

Art: This is simple. The quality of the drawings.

1-Bleach
2-One Piece
3-Naruto
4-Hunter x Hunter

Characters: Are they enjoyable?. Do you care about them?. Have they a solid background?.

1-Naruto
2-Hunter x Hunter
3-Bleach
4-One Piece

Background: The world. How the powers work. The ranks. The creatures. The organizations. How well the mangaka explain the differents aspects of the social life in his manga: (roles, money, goverment, organizations, energy: chakra, nen, reiki, etc)

1-Hunter x Hunter
2-One Piece
3-Naruto
4-Bleach

The battles: Are the battles funny to watch?. well explained?...the guys resort into power ups to resolve anything?. they use strategies?

1-Hunter x Hunter
2-Naruto
3-One Piece
4-Bleach

Well....those are my categories...you can add your own categories if you want to evaluate other aspects....Those are the categories that come first to my mind.

I haven't read Hunter x Hunter yet(been meaning to get around to it...), so I'll just rank the other 3. But I have to question how you can have a ranking of Great Shounen Manga, and leave out Dragonball and Yu Yu Hakusho, the two most important of them all.

Anyways:
Plot:
1. One Piece(great original plot always taken in a new direction, and constant surprises)
2. Naruto(interesting plot, some predictable aspects, but still pretty good)
3. Bleach(sacrifices in the plot area)

Narrative:
1. One Piece(Oda has a great story he's telling, and there is a purpose for everything(even Buggy!))
2. Naruto(not sure what Kishimoto is trying to do some times, but it beats...
3. Bleach

Art:
1. Bleach(beautiful, beautiful series)
2. One Piece
3. Naruto(Kishimoto seems a little less artistily inclinde then the others)

Characters:
1. One Piece(everyone in this series rocks, everyone)
2. Naruto(tons of great characters)
3. Bleach(see above, Bleach is last only because One Piece and Naruto are also amazing)

Background:
1. One Piece(lost history, age of heaven, will of D, need I say more?)
2. Bleach(has a great world and backstory)
3. Naruto(not too much going for it, here)

Fights:
1. Bleach(Bleach's fights are amazing)
2. One Piece(always entertaining, original, and dramatic
3. Naruto(great, but not on One Piece's level)

Well....I was considering actual mangas only. I don't want to use DBZ and YYH. They are the founders. It's like comparing The Clash or Sex Pistols with Green Day XDDD :P

Plot
1-Naruto (Ninjas, what more can I say :P)
2-Bleach (Even though the recent plot has been lacking IMO, the plot up to this point as been really good)
3-HunterxHunter (Whould be #2 but Im really no likeing this NGL stuff and since it has lasted so long it drags down the over all plot IMO)
4-One Piece (Plot has never been one of OP's strong points to me)

Narrative
1-HunterxHunter (Again the NGL arc really hurts it but the earlier stuff was so well written that it makes up for it)
2-One Piece
3-Naruto
4-Bleach

Art
1-Bleach
2-Naruto
3-One Piece (never really liked his style of drawing things, still kinda annoys me to this day)
4-HunterxHunter (anyone who has read a chapter in the last year knows why this is last...)

Characters
1-Naruto (to many characters that I love to not give this #1 :P)
2-Bleach
3,4-Tie HunterxHunter and One Piece

Background
1-HunterxHunter
2-Naruto
3-One Piece
4-Bleach

The battles
1-HunterxHunter (Unique, origional, and it works really well)
2-Naruto (Pretty good battle system with a lot of variety)
3-Bleach
4-One Piece (This used to be higher but fights in OP have been getting boring to me.)

However, on a final note let me leave with this. Flame of Recca >>>>>>> all other Shounen :P

Excluding HxH, which I have seen little of;

Plot - Definitely Naruto, it's very much a plot-driven series. There are many different things going on, which tie together nicely and are mostly very interesting. Bleach has an average and quite singular plot, and One Piece has comparatively little overall plot.
1. Naruto
2. Bleach
3. One Piece

Narrative - Bleach often borders on senseless, to be honest. Naruto's narrative may be slightly better than One Piece in a way, but I think One Piece has much less plot to work with. So for it to still work so well after all this time, the narrative has to be pretty damn good. Hence it gets #1.
1. One Piece
2. Naruto
3. Bleach

Art - It's difficult, because they all have their stengths. One Pice is great at creating character and atmosphere; Bleach has great still-shots but terrible action sequences, and Naruto is very consistent all-round but a little lifeless. Naruto's character designs win though, so I'll say:
1. Naruto
2. One Piece
3. Bleach

Characters - Ah, tough one. One Piece has very charming and fun characters, but they can be a bit too silly and one-dimensional for my tastes. Bleach has very cool characters, but they lack depth. Overall, I think Naruto has the most well-defined characters.
1. Naruto
2. Bleach
3. One Piece

Background -Background in Bleach is practically nonexistant, but it's close between One Piece and Naruto. I'll say One Piece though, since the background is essentially what holds it all together.
1. One Piece
2. Naruto
3. Bleach

The battles - Easy win for Naruto. Bleach battles are normally quite uniteresting and too powerup-based (not to mention badly drawn and confusing), and One Piece's are... well, probably the weakest area of the manga IMO. Not very interesting for the most part. Naruto's are very good though, even if they aren't what they used to be.
1. Naruto
2. Bleach
3. One Piece

Plot: (Mainly going by the potential and how likely it is to develop a great story, at least by arc.)
1. Hunter x Hunter
2. One Piece
3. Naruto (I'd say it had a lot of potential, but unlikely it'd be in a way that I'd enjoy nearly as much as early on in the series or compared with the other series ranked above it.)
4. Bleach

Narrative:
1. One Piece - Only seems to get better for me as it goes along.
2. Hunter x Hunter - Some arcs I like better than others, while some do take getting used to but eventually get much better later on.
3. Bleach
4. Naruto

Art:
1. Bleach
2. One Piece
3. Hunter x Hunter
4. Naruto (It might be just me... but I think the art is somewhat... generic?)

Characters:
1. One Piece
2. Hunter x Hunter
3. Bleach
... (GAP)
4. Naruto - There are enjoyable characters, but no matter what, it'll always go back to Sasuke and Naruto, while the others don't get nearly enough screen time. If I like a character, chances are they will be screwed over one way or another plot-wise, worsened over time, and/or(mosty and) just forgetten save for brief appearances.

Background:
1. One Piece
2. Hunter X Hunter
3. Bleach
4. Naruto - A bit too "character-driven"(?), not as much focus on the world.

The Battles:
1. Hunter x Hunter
2. One Piece
3. Bleach
4. Naruto

Haven't read H x H, downloaded it, just haven't read it.

Plot
1. Naruto. It really does have the most cohesive plot of the 3. I'd say it also has the best character developoment as well.

2. Bleach. Right now it's in kind of a dry spot. It did it during the Soul Society Arc, too. At the end, it gave itself quite a diabolical twist and put itself together quite nicely. I have no indication to believe it won't do that this time, either.

3. Ah, plot. Not exactly One Piece's strong point. The overall background of the world is one thing, but that's a different category.

Narrative
1. I'm once again gonna give this to Naruto. With the exception of the end of the SS arc in Bleach, none of the others even touch this. Kishimoto has created a very well paced story.

2. One piece is just over Bleach, mainly because there is just so much in the world of this manga we have yet to see. It has the potential to be around for a very, very long time without getting boring.

3. Bleach is too erratic to rank high here. It starts okay, hits a dry spell, then a "wow" narrative piece, in cycle almost. The pacing is too inconsistent.

Art
1. Bleach, Bleach, Bleach. Kubo Taito is up and away the most talented artist among this group. The only Jump mangaka I believe to be better than him are Obata and Watsuki (nobody is better than Obata...nobody....). Every character in Bleach is unique. There is no recycling, no carry overs. They all have their own personality and style that you can feel just by looking at them.

2. Naruto, on the other hand, has a style that tends to get a little repetitive on occasion. Too many non-main characters look alike, but his background art is superb. That part of it is the best of the three.

3. One Piece...ehh, I just don't like Oda's art style. Too out of proportion, simplistic, and exaggerated (I'm a sucker for the more realistic style). Not a fan of it...although he sure can put a lot of things into one scene. No one can beat him there.

Characters
1. This may be against the grain, but Bleach has my favorite. Not because of their strength, or that they're all inexplicable good looking...they just seem to have something to them. This was a hard call, as Naruto's are very well done also, but I like adult characters moreso than young characters, so that may have had a hand in it.

2. Naruto alllmost was #1 for me...the only reason it wasn't was there are too many young characters in it for me. Bleach's characters, even at the same age, look and act older, and that gives it the edge over Naruto.

3. Don't get me wrong; One piece has some very cool characters in it. A lot of them, though, are just too shallow. Main characters, like Luffy, who "wants to be Pirate King" as his whole character...meh, gets old to me. I do believe there is more to all of them, however, and as it progresses it may get a higher rating.

Background
1. No one even touches One Piece in this category. There is so much background, so much history in the world where this story takes place it's ridiculous. It holds the story together and keeps it interesting.

2. Naruto takes second here. With so many characters having fleshed-out backstories, it's hard not to give it that. Everyone is very well composed and put together.

3. Sadly, background isn't Bleach's specialty. A lot of that has to do with the story's pacing...it only gives glimpses at a time, so it takes a long time for the story to progress. Once it fleshes out some more, it may rank higher.

Battles
1. Naruto waltzes away with this one. The battles in this are unmatched. Period. No questions asked.

2. Bleach has some really cool battles, unfortunately the way in which they unfold is a little routine. The only battles that really stand out (too me) is Kenpachi's fight, Renji and Ichigo's fight, and Grimmjow's fight with Ichigo (I loved that for some reason). Add some more spice to the newer fights and it may..well, it won't, but it'll be closer to Naruto.

3. One Piece, to me, has extremely boring fights. The only characters I enjoy watching fight is Zoro. The rest of far to similar to me. Too much Luffy screaming, doing something impossible, and winning. If all of their fights were as good as Zoro's, it'd be #1. Ah, maybe some day.

With all of that said, when it comes down to it, Bleach is currently my favorite series. Naruto is a close second, and One Piece is...fourth, actually (I like Gantz better personally). Here's to hearing what everyone else has to say.

This is pretty much the way it is.

In HxH, you know exactly what the characters are capable of. In fact, they can give you numbers about the amount of energy they have if they need to.

Very thorough in the explanation of powers. Unrealistic in a very realistic way. :thumbs
