I dunno-- If there's any realy 'god-father' of sci-fi anime it would have to be Akira. ^^ Although Evangelion takes the cake for most insane plot ever. ;) It's even deeper then Akira's, which is saying something. But I thought the ending of the show was just a bit too confusing, there was so much jumping around I wasn't really sure what was going anymore. (I suppose that is some of the point, but still) I think Xenogears does a similar sort of storyline... but a little less confusing. But Evangelion carries it across in a different manner... it's hard to decide which is really better. *dies*
