What is your favorite volume of the Dark Tower, and why? (Please keep in mind the spoiler tabs for those who haven't read the entire series yet.)
And what is your favorite Tower-related book or story?

Oops. I went to go check on the poll, and realized that I forgot to answer my own questions...
My reasons:
Of the main series:
1- The Wastelands (inspires me)
2- The Gunslinger (reads like a weird dream)
3- The Dark Tower (so much happens in one book...)
Of the related books:
1- The Talisman (only vaguely related, but one of the best books I've ever read)
2- Hearts In Atlantis (even though it's tie to one of the saddest memories of my life)
3- tie between Black House and Insomnia (much like the above, both were amazing stand-alones, even without an connections to the Tower)

Well, I voted a bit prematurely, since I haven't finished The Dark Tower, but I'd say my favorite is Wizard & Glass. I'm not sure why I liked that one so much, it just sucked me in. Plus it added so much depth to Rolands character and the backstory in general. It helped me see Roland as a human with flaws and emotions instead of just a wise guru/killing machine. The story itself was so entertaining as well.

I like Wizard and the Glass most.
In this book there lots of metaphors and references to other novels that are very interesting. The love story is perfect but sad. Alain and Cuthbert are cool characters. Also my best villain is there too (Randall Flagg)
My favorite Dark Tower related book is Black House. There are very detailed and
interesting characters (especially Henry Leyden) I think it is better than The Talisman which is a bit childish.

Wizard is my fave.
Finally, we get to see how he became so cynical and one-tracked. He definitely got screwed over. That, and I loved the part where he snuck up on Jonas. "No more talking." :amuse

I like Wizard and Glass best, for the reasons you already stated here.
The scene where Susan was killed was cruel, but so... well, impressively written. I won't ever forget it, this I am sure about. How all the townspeople cheer for her death, and then, when it's too late, when she already burns, they recognize they're killing someone they all knew and loved from child on... *shudders*
Also, this novel was so captivating it kept me from sleeping.^^' I read it and decided to go to bed at like 2:30 am(when I more or less finished Roland's story) and lay awake for an hour, so I just went on reading until I finished it at about 4:30. THEN I could sleep. *drop*
What do you think of the ending of the seventh novel? In my opinion the way it ended for Roland was the only fitting one, even if it's cruel to let him relive these events always and always again...

My favorite is also Wizard and Glass even though the first three books were very very good as well. Then it went a bit downhill but the ending made that all up. My god that was a great read.

wizard and glass is the best
Also it sound like I'm jumping the band waggon, I agree. Wizard and Glass for me as well. Rolands story and childhood was way to fascinating for me and the mix of action, romance and drama was so well written that it could stand alone as a novel.

Wizard and the Glass... Roland is a great character, and I'm always wanting to know more about him... Also, I liked very much the scenario created by Stephen King, that old romantic world falling apart...
However, I havent read books 5 to 7 yet, so I will probably be back here to say if this is really the best one...

5-7 will be an... interesting experience. I can't say whether they're better or worse than the first books, so much time had passed since he wrote them, only that they are a powerful experience.

Mine was the final one the dark tower... EVERYTHING happens in that book!! i also liked the drawing of the three and the wastelands!I would write why but i don't know how to spoiler tag it :( .Anyway i was so happy when i say there was a topic about these wonderfull books!! Good work!
i voted for the wastelands, though it's so incomplete without the wizard and glass. my favorite related book is the stand. (mm, i love epics.)
i'm always a bit disappointed by king's endings though.

Really? I thought the ending was very fitting. I couldn't have imagined an other ending for thiese series which really would be believable...
I mean, what should Roland have found inside of the tower? God? This would have been much more controversial than the ending he used, of this you can be sure. IMO, the ending is... cruel, it really is cruel, but it also is the only ending which is, well, possible without being totally different from the "feeling" of the rest of the story.

About the Ending:
I thought the ending didn't fit the series at all. It wasn't a bad ending, since it was well written, cruel (just like Roland's life has always been) and dramatic, but because of this ending, the whole story felt really incomplete, like there was a lot more to tell.
btw: my favourite book is The Gunslinger, because I like the post-apocalyptic mood of that book, it really felt like a world that has moved on.

Wizard and Glass...believe it:laugh
I like the history of Mid-World and Roland, it's kind of refreshing to read some King that isn't straight horror AND isn't pretentious. Also, it's fun seeing King try to emulate Tolkien.

Really, I thought that the ending was kind of a cop-out. I just felt that from the point where he put himself into the story, it just got all bogged down. In a way, you can say that he did find god, and it really did him no good.

Dark Tower, huh? I've heard it was going to be used for the comic book King was going to use for the storyline. What is it about?

My favorite would be either The Gunslinger or Wizard & Glass, can't decide. But I would have to go with The Gunslinger since it was the first book I read in the series. I hate The Drawing of the Three :/.

Waste Lands because Jake comes back (my favourite character from all the books) and the doorkeeper scene is amazing.

the nding was interesting, i liked the 1st book and wolves of the calla
wizard and glass one wasnt bad either
I'm gonna have to vote for The Gunslinger as my favorite. It's just...I don't know, awesome. Second favorite is The Dark Tower, despite the endings for the antagonists being, well...boring. The Stranger's final scene pissed me right the hell off and the Red King was just a huge letdown ("EEEEEEEE!!!").
My least favorite is easily Wizard & Glass: Which is odd because that's the first I ever read a second time and almost expected a different ending. For you guys that love W&G, I'd suggest finding the Gunslinger comics from Marvel. It's basically a, 8 part re-telling of the story from W&G. If it does well, we can expect King to write up some original stories from Roland's childhood to be drawn by Marvel. So if you want some more DT stuff from King, go to a shop and find the series or pick it up when it's released as a collection.
