The license is until 2009, folks. So unless Toei decides to be rid of the license unto its true owner, FUNi, then we won't be seeing anything truly quality in awhile. Meanwhile, I'm still wondering how 4Kids managed to grab the license before FUNI did.

Now, then. Where was I? O yes. 4Kids and Toonami. Toonami is not a kiddy airing time. However, the company itself is very much kiddy, and pretty much fears the FCC. In that, their edits can sometimes be... completely unreasonable.

And the voice director sucks even when they change the air times.

Now, then, about the Usopp Luffy fight. Chances are, they WILL keep the basic entire thing (as in, not removing the fight). But bastardize it to the point that they make Usopp look even more than the Ass they portray him as in the dub. That, and mixing around clips, removing the flashbacks, and the killer move ketchup star.

I just don't understand why they did all that. Not only is it disapointing but I feel bad for them to a degree. If they would have left it how it is, not only would they have had to put little to no effort into editing everything, but it would have been much more popular I'm sure. Such a disapointment.

Well, let's be fair with some of the edits, the FCC these days have become a bit too... strict... due to the complaints of soccer moms, like the ones who ban tag or touch football because it can "escalate" into bigger fights, and yet forgetting that kids these days are fat (this is real).

Course, imputting Chopper into certain scenes or editing out characters to show Chopper more is a marketting scheme, and is NOT good.

In any case, One Piece truly should've been the next Dragonball Z here if not some factors that supported Naruto more into the Otaku craze that it is today.

Edit: One Piece WAS their worst rated show. On Saturday. And on Toonami, the results were completely different.

In any case, the dub is editting less, although now their "editing" is more for commercial gain.

Alright. I couldn't understand a lot of this rant, but if I understand it correctly, all I have to say is this. I don't see too much of Japanese schools going under Columbine, and a lot of the kids read manga, which happens to have quite a few less restrictions in blood, guns, etc.

okay, before you start with the flames, I want you to know that THAT IS NOT A JOKE. So please don't band me or close this thread only becuase I repeat, I am not kidding. I am a long time follower of One Piece, I've seen the sub and the dub. In all fairness, I honestly think 4KIDS has actually improved the anime rather than destroy it like so many One Piece fans think...

For starters, skipping the Apis arc was not a big deal, and cutting/fusing episodes together saves time and moves the story faster, making it less boring. As for cutting out the little garden arc... the fights weren't exciting anyway and most of the characters were annoying (The giants, Mr.3, etc)

Next comes the editting... is there anything really wrong with editting guns? Sure they are turned into super soakers/painted, but they still fire bullets. Not to mention the blood edits and tabacco edits are also very understandable... and does it kill you to have a sign wiped clean? Honestly, taking out english/japanese text does not make the anime better or worse in any way, it stays the same and is just as good...

Also, I highly doubt 4KIDS is racist, they are not trying to make kids not think Japan exists (We've seen lots of culture in the TMNT cartoon, and that was made by 4KIDS, wasn't it?) also, they kept Zolo (I like the name Zolo better than Zoro, his name won't feel like a rip off of the already existing Zorro) using Santaryu, and that's a Japanese word, isn't it?

now comes removing the music... I don't care for the One Piece original sound track, and putting more than one theme song/ending song gets confusing and annoying. 4KIDS only has to change a lyric or two in the intro when a new character is added, so it's easier to follow.

Finally, the voices. I admit, they're not as good as the Japanese voices (Cept Chopper, in the dub his voice is less annoying, same with Nami) Luffy's voice sounds like a good young boy's voice (his JP voice sounds too much like a girl) Zolo's voice is perfectly fine, Sanji's voice is good becuase it makes him sound tough/strong yet like a funny romantic like he's supposed to be (To be honest, the voice is perfect for him) and Usopp's voice leaves me in stitches.

It's times like this I wish 4KIDS got Naruto... I like Naruto, but the fights drag on too much to the point where it's DBZ, but with ninja's... I bet 4KIDS could take the Haku and Zabuza fight and trim it down to just 2 episodes. Maybe better voice actors as well (I dislike the voices of Naruto, Sakura, Orochimaru, and Chouji the most)

as I said, I'm NOT joking, I'm just letting you see my opinion, and maybe if you think about it you'll agree with everything I said. Otherwise, I'm sorry if you disagree. Besides, Oda, the original creator, hasn't said anything against the US dub, so I'm sure he's as fine with it as I am.

Here in the UK One Piece started being shown on the Toonami channel about a year ago i think, i wasn't that impressed, moved on and watched other anime's.
However a few months ago, having run out of anime shows to watch i started watching Naruto and also noticed how popular One Piece was, curious i downloaded a episode (i think it was the first ep of the Davy Back Arc) to watch and see what i had been missing. While not brilliant it was enough to get me started watching the show from the beginning which was when i made the mistake of watching the dubbed 4kids version and was completely disgusted with the edits that had been made to the show. (to date i only watched 2 episodes of the 4kids version and have refused to watch it since).
What wound me up even more were the voices (by now i was used to Luffy's "Gomu Gomu no...") and the opening music, it was just irritating and the original versions are far, far, far superior.
So here's one person who's never going near a 4kids product again.
