Aokiji said he fought Luffy's grandfather. They both have the letter D. Just like Portgas D. Ace WHO IS LUFFYS BROTHER ALTHOUGH THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE SIMILAR IS THE LETTER.

And the fact that he said all his family has the letter d passed down.

Blackbeard is a D.

So is Gol D. Roger, whom I am sure gave marines problems being the Pirate King. Not to mention has been compared to Luffy several times, right down to his smile before death.


As easy as he got owned, I don't think he was much trouble for the marines at all. Plus if he dies 20 years ago, I doubt Luffy would know much of anything aboot him, and would care much aboot what AoKiji said.

Aokiji seems to own even back then (wellm obviously). From the two battles we've seen (if you can call them that), his fighting styles are the same.
