Adema! - it's a realy good band, I've listened to them quite a while now and I can just say that all songs are great, if you like bands like Jimmy eat world and Afi then you should defently listen to these guys, bit harder than jew and afi tho but well they are great!!!
Another band is Matchbook Romance also a great bad! Also alot similiar to jew and afi but well, these guys are realy good take your time and listen to them! ;)
Uh.... I'm not a big fan of Pop-Punk.
Just for the record, I'm not bashing: Skate Punk/Skatecore isn't JeW or AFI, bands like Jodie Fosters Army and Gang Green are skate punk.
Just so you know :)

I'm not sure whether Adema is skatepunk/punk (it sounds heavier), but personally I like the band quite a bit.
My WMA player classified JeW as Emo. Wtf?!

And whats up with Punk-Rock, it's just a stupid word that Americans made up so they can divide between a Punk and Punk music. It's simply -Punk- Punk-rock doesn't excist.
Toilet, Punk was a term coined by the original punk, Legs Mcneil.
Haha.

All of you please know what these genres of music are before you define them. Adema is nu'metal, My Chemical Romance is EMO. neko-sennin's the only one that seems to know what he's talking about.

My definitions.
Emo is Fugazi, RoS, Faith, One Last Wish, etc.
MCR is pop-punk, also known as *Ahem* Shit.
Adema may be Nu-Metal, but everyone knows that Lamb of God is the only good Nu Metal band.
Haha. R_lee is stupid! wahahaha!

Lamb of God is Metalcore.
Dog Fashion Disco is Nu-Metal
And Wikipedia is a fucking steaming pile of shit.

Wikipedia gets out of control with those genres.
Lamb of God is Metalcore.
Dog Fashion Disco is Nu-Metal
And Wikipedia is a fucking steaming pile of shit.
Yeah, but, Lamb of God does play Nu Metal, Listen to New American Gospel!
Also Cata; Its called Thrash, and VOID influenced it.

It's because anyone can put in entries.
When it comes to hard solic facts like those plucked from a dictionary that's one thing.
But as soon as it touches on the entertainment arts it assumes the biases of whoevers doing the entries.
Having Nu-Metal moments, or even an entire album, does not Nu-Metal make. Look at Hypocrisy.
I'm just saying, that some of their music contains traces of Nu-Metal.
Even the album Quickness by Bad Brains sounds like a mix of Nu-metal and Thrash.

I agree it has elements of Nu-Metal (whcih I do not find offenseive as many metalheads do), I was just pointing out they aren't Nu-Metal.
What they are is good.
Mind you, this is all way off topic.

I just wanted to clarify somthing from the original post. Jimmy eat world is VERY much so emo music. Early AFI is skate punk, late AFI is more towards an emo sound, but really it moved away from the punk genre.
Jimmy Eat World isn't emo.

They so are man. Every song i've heard of their's has definitely been emo. Very emotional lyrics, and softer guitar than usual punk.

Lol, I don't understand why people care so much about the genre, you are listening to the band not the genre lol!
Jimmy Eat World sucks anyway, so it doesn't matter
xD

Ok where do you come off insulting me like that? If your trying to insult me, learn how to spell sense. Spouting curse words at me, how mature.
Then use some common sense, Wiki is stupid.
I guess stupid people use stupid search methods, like Wiki.
I'll spell sense any way I want, god damnit!!

You spelled it wrong, Domu. (Maybe you were trying to change your username to Domon? :amuse) B.F.D. Get over it. :P
And I think you are simply arguing semantics, now.
According to current usage, MCR, Jimmy Eat World, and even Linkin Park fall under the umbrella term that is "emo." Sure, the bands Domu/X pointed out are the more textbook examples of "emo," but pop culture has appropriated "emo," just as it has done before with "punk," "goth," and most obviously, "rock." XD
How about, for the sake of clarity, we stop arguing over what is "emo" and what is "punk"?
Or else we can keep arguing.
Or we could always adopt lame bastardized terminology, like "old skool emo" and "emo-pop," or "punk," "pop-punk," and the ever-infamous "power-pop." :lmao
I'm just not some pussy who listens to crappy music. Thats all.

For example, I believe Avril Lavigne is crap, but I still believe me roomate has the right to listen to it. Just turn up my speakers/headphones until I can't hear it anymore.
Goddam, once I hear the fuckin' "Skater Boy" song, it takes *weeks* to get that shit outta my head... That's why I never listen to the radio.

Skate punk is equal to Good Charlotte :laugh
R_Lee86
01-26-2006, 03:41 PM
Umm, no, Good Charlotte is pop, top 40 crap. Skate punk is bands like NOFX, Lagwagon, Sucicidal Tendancies, Pennywise, Millencolin, Bouncing Souls, ect. This type of music has always gotten a bad rep from bands like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Blink 182, and Avril Lavigne.

01-26-2006, 03:45 PM
We could argue about this forever, everyone thinks diffrent anyway, for example I consider Jimmy eat world to be skate punk, it's all up to yourself, you should listen to the band instead of talking about witch genre suck etc..
R_Lee86
01-26-2006, 06:58 PM
Nooo, Jimmy Eat World is far from any type of punk. They are definately EMO, by today's standards.
Skatepunk is Jodie Fosters Army, Gang Green, Suicidal Tendencies, Skatenigs.
I like hardcore better though.

Suicidal own everybodies ass.
This is a non-negotiable statement biznatches!

01-27-2006, 04:41 AM
In the end, it all comes down to what "punk" means to you? Sound or substance (perhaps both?), fashion and trappings or roots?
What people are seeking on MTV, and what they are seeking in the indie scene are often two different things.
Kusajishi
01-27-2006, 06:09 AM
^Thank you, it's diffrent for all of us! I don't follow the guidelines that people set up before hand because I listen to the band not to the genre as stated above, realy the genre has no importance!
I listen to the band not to the genre as stated above, realy the genre has no importance!
Then why name this thread "Punk/Skate Punk music!"
?
Kusajishi
01-27-2006, 12:48 PM
Because the thread is about that kind of music and similiar music. I don't realy wan't to speak about britney spears in here so I wrote that t.t
But I consider Britney punk as fuck!

Ok then discuss about her, so toxicity huh? good song?:amuse
Skatepunk was originally a derivative of hardcore punk, so named because of its popularity among skateboarders. It can be difficult for outsiders to pin down exactly what makes a particular band skatepunk, but there are a few strong tendencies. Skatepunk tends to be especially high-energy, even for the genre it comes from; that usually means even faster tempos and thrashier guitars. Skatepunk also tends to have a sense of humor, mostly of the smartass variety -- because, after all, it's used as a soundtrack for fun. In keeping with the fiercely anti-corporate, anti-authoritarian attitudes of the fans, most skatepunk bands are signed to independent labels, and most prefer to keep it that way as a statement of principle. The exact sound of skatepunk has shifted over the years with punk itself, from hardcore in the '80s to revivalist punk-pop in the '90s; its manic energy also influenced a portion of the third-wave ska revival movement. The first true skatepunk band was Suicidal Tendencies, who helped pave the way for some skatepunk outfits to dabble in funk-metal as well.
