Everytime I try to add a border it always comes out like this for some reason.

How do I remove that fading effect?

Also, how do I add borders to gifs?

I would appreciate the help.

Here's what I suggest...

Everytime I add a border I do some rookie stuff.

1. Make a new image on photoshop and make the width 1 pixel... Make the length 400 pixels or something (File > New > enter the numbers > make sure it's transparent, RGB colour, etc)...

2. Once you have this, fill it with black (Edit > Fill > Black > Opacity = 100%)...

3. Now you have this black line, select all (Ctrl + A) and copy it... Then paste it on to your avatar/sig/tag and drag it to the edge so that it covers the first pixel in...

4. Do the same for the opposite side of the avatar/sig/tag by pasting the black line again and dragging it...

5. After this go back to the original and rotate it 90 degrees in any direction (Image > Rotate Canvas > 90...)...

6. Repeat the steps (4 and 5) that you did before now using the horizontal black line and then you should be done...

If you want any other colours for the border, choose a different colour to fill with.

I hope that helps, somewhat and sorry if you already know this.

The same method applies to gifs, I believe.

I usually just make a new layer, select all, then Edit>Stroke and pick my settings I want, for location put inside, and you should get a border.

@Kagi - I tried your advise since it was shorter. It works. Thanks a bunch.

@Itachi Amaterasu - Thanks for the help anyways.

Here's a basic way to make a 3 pixel border:

1) Make a new layer
2) CTRL+A...go to Edit>Stroke, and apply a 3 pxl Black stroke
3) Go to Edit>Stroke, and apply a 2 pxl White stroke
4) Go to Edit>Stroke, and apply a 1 pxl Black stroke
