I think of a very interesting philosophical question. Let's discuss this over here.

In 1972 and 1973, two unmanned space probes, Pioneer 10 and 11, were launched respectively with enough initial velocity to escape the gravitational pull of the whole solar system. They were the first two man-made spacecrafts that ever left the solar system and travelled into the deep space. Both space probes carried with them a golden plaque known as the Pioneer Plaque.

As you can see, there are symbol of a hydrogen molecule, figures of a man and a woman, silhouette of the spacecraft, position of our Sun relative to the center of the Milky Way Galaxy and 14 pulsars and also a schematic diagram of our solar system on the plaque. Obviously this is a human attempt to make contact with the alien civilizations out there.

After receiving too much criticism over the plaque, the next two interstellar space probes, Voyager 1 and 2, which were launched in 1977, carried with them a gramophone record called the Voyager Golden Record (It seems that NASA has a strange obsession with gold ) instead of a stupid plaque with some nude people on it.

The famous Voyager Golden Record

The contents of the record were selected by a committee led by Carl Sagan. A total of 115 images and a variety of music and sounds were included in this record. It also contained spoken greetings in 55 different languages, from Akkadian to Wu, a chinese dialect.

You can find everything in the record from this website:

I will post a few images below. Some intelligent alien life forms out there maybe watching at these pictures right now, who knows? (this is of course a joke since we are now still in contact with these space probes)

My question is: If one day human finds an unmanned space probe like these sent by a distant alien civilization that happens to fly past our solar system, what kind of impacts will it bring to the human civilization? And also, what do you expect to see inside the alien space probe?

1) If amateur = OMFG!, if Military, it will be covered up, if Media then well considering Fox News and CNN it will case riots and crazy people going in times sqaure wanting to join the aliens.

2) If in millitary hands it will be disected for a possible advancement of ways to blow shit up. If civilian it will be looking for ways to be commercialized / sold on E-bay. If media well its too scary to imagine.

3) Prolly find on it Alien porn.

And the alien who sent it would be GODDAMIT! HOWD I FUCKING LOOSE MY PORN COLLECTION...AGAIN?!?!?!?

Stupid human militaries would probably hold an alien hostage and deny it.

Then an incredible negociator will smooth things out.

Thus beginning our awkward introduction into inter-galactical relationships.

I'm just hoping they are smarter than we are.

I think if they found that probe they would just tell everybody unless it's a message that says: "we will rape your children"
I think that just like the aliens that see the recordings we will also have a wrong picture of the aliens. I mean those aliens might think those chinese at the table are having a psycho war.
and maybe they will think that there are two races on our planet. One small white creature and a big one that is burned by the acid air bla bla
I don't really care about these aliens unless they are funny.

No, let's assume that the thing is not covered up. Assume everybody knows we have just brought back an unmanned alien space probe that travelled past our Earth. How will this change our lives and thoughts? Our position in the universe will not be the same again. We are not special anymore! Will our lives be changed forever? Will new religions appear? (In fact this kind of religions already exists) Or will we just get over the thing after some time, just like how we got over all the other momentous events in the history?

I think it is going to have some unimaginable impacts on our everyday lives when "someone is out there" is proven beyond doubt. This is probably why the military always covers the things up, instead of telling people the truth.

it will affect everyone that didn't believe in aliens and it will feed all the minds of the people with imaginative theories where aliens are a part.
Some people will take action in preparing for the aliens. scientific research will be started. More movies with aliens will be made. New alien jokes will be told. When that generation dies the next generation will dream about meeting those aliens. There will definatly be psychos that will say "I don't think the aliens would agree". Religions will have a extra chapter regarding the aliens. For instance the katholic church will say that the aliens are also the sons of jezus and we should embrase them. you think of some more things...

^ Seems to be a common thing with you.

On another note. If aliens invaded earth, and the females had breasts. I would make it my mission to fuck one of them.

They were recorded in the Voyager Golden Record and sent to the outer space by the space probes Voyager 1 and 2 on 1977. I am glad they put a Malaysian pic in it.:chimpo

They may use some kind of laser guns to make your "precious" disappear.:tem

Aliens are evil, they are not freindly creature!!!

..they were offspring of the fallen angels (nephilim) ..they came to earth with an evil plan.. the bible has wrote about the princes of the air (UFO) and they prepare themselves for the armagedon, which will be held on the second coming of christ!!

what i've been said is not a joke, but the truth I am serious :S

All I think would happen is the Evolutionists would say "Told you so". The Religious would say "This is simply God (insert appropriate deity) testing our faith." Most other people would be pretty unaffected I should imagine, they'll just write it off as a publicity stunt to sell them the next Ipod.
It's an interesting question though.
What would I expect to see inside... Maybe a DVD similar to what we sent. We pop in the DVD player and "This DVD is Zoned 27 and only viewable in the galaxy of Crappulons 3,4,5. This is to prevent the unauthorized copying and Distribution of said product."
Either that or it will all be in some indecipherable language that no-one understands... Like Welsh

But it would be worth the risk.

Cause after they rule the world, or do whatever and leave. I can go around telling everyone I fucked one of their women. Won one for the team.

To me, a woman is something with a vagina. So if it has a dick, then it isn't a chick.

Also I don't consider anything with less than a c-cup to be a woman.

I always found it amusing how the series Beast Wars had the Golden disk recovered by the villian, Megatron. He attempted to use to change time and take over the universe...This may show some insight into what may happen.

Anyway, I imagine they'll just trace where it came from and start zapping away.

:yell Hey, you guys! Stop posting this kind of stupid jokes in the philosophical section. I don't want my thread to be turned into a " Do you want to have sex with an alien?" thread. It isn't funny, ok? By the way, I am talking about unmanned spacecraft. There is no alien inside for you to satisfy your crazy fantasies. Geez, people.

The world should respond in much the same way it did when "King Tut's" unmolested tomb was discovered. The 1st World countries would be affected the most by far due to having the most interest in the discovery. The little information we would then have on the extraterrestrial culture in question would become a craze seen in Hollywood movies, novels, TV, fashion, and possibly music too. 2nd and especially 3rd World countries would be much less effected, as their ways of life both have little contact with the hustle and bustle of the Information Age of more privileged countries, and have better things to worry about than whether or not we are alone in the Universe when their basic needs are not near as easily met.
Much like how the appeal of Ancient Egyptian culture has really never died down, the same would go for this discovery once the craze had long ended. There would be an impact on a fair amount of religions or other organizations who like the idea of humans being the sole sentient species known, but not to a level that would require a government cover up. Religions threatened by the discovery would just deny it just like how religions threatened by the concept of evolution denied that. Space brothers cults would grow more confident now that the nonbelievers know that we are not alone. "They're hiding the TRUTH about aliens!" conspiracy nuts would continue to believe what they believe and paranormal sceptics would just adapt their silly "logical explanations" to the new discovery.

I don't think the discovery of Aliens would affect religion too much. Some religions claim or support the existence of ET beings. In fact, the Quran states that we are not the only beings in this universe. So as far as religion goes, i doubt people will give up or change their religion just because another life form was discovered. As for clothes or fashion, the most that would be changed is holloween costumes. If Aliens are discovered i dont think anyone would show interest in mimicking their clothing, especially since it would most likely be foreign to us.
