View Full Version : Comic book Quality is declining

In my opinion there are approxiametly three important aspect in a comic book: Characters, Artwork and Plot. All of which, seemed to be losing the attractive tenour that first drew readers to them in the first place.

Marvels release of thier Ultimate series, should be proof enough, that there was need for change. And, that older readers where becoming bored. House of M, breaking the avengers apart is yet another example.

Aside from Marvel, generally there have have been a large number of mini series that have been streaming out of late, throughout the comic book world. Dc and marvel are the most reconizesable though, so I'll stick to them.

House of M, Omac, Rann Thagar war, etc and so forth- were cool, but their mini series and have had a lot of forthought. Thus, they are lacreme of what the company releases. As far as regular run of the mill comic book goes, they seem o suck more then ever before. Comic book quality has vastly fallen.

The Plots of late have become stale and uninspired.Take a typcial Comic book, like Flash, X-men or Jla. If you read one arc on it's own, for the most part, it is quite entertaining and enjoyable. However, each arc seems to have vast similarities, and in turn creates vast boredom. Moreover, when it comes to Characters thier seems to be very little effort going into creating inspiring characters, instead of just cannon fodder.. whose sole purpose is to get pwned!!! The protagonist in his comic mini series is always directly involved in the comic, I personally think this is a mistake and in turn makes the comic a character driven affair. This of course, could be a good thing, but Characters like Flash/ Spiderman are one dimensional. They may have varied response but thier principals are the same and are never comprimised. My GOD! Batman has been going on for ages and yet he has never slipped, never accidently killed someone or done so purposely. Even more ridiculous is that none of his enemeies who he fights more, then he seems to go to the bathroom:nuts - have been able to deduce who he is. Batman stays in gotham, and has fancy gadgets. He's human it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Ah! I had more to say... more to complain about that is regarding plot and how backwater, it been seeming lately, but I've lost my train of thought.

My main beef though, in this area is that comics, are imiating a certain facet of life I find horribly annoying. And that is repetition. I know it is unavoidable really, especially in an ongoing series however some comics(the good stuff) seems able to side step the problem, somewhat.

-Artwork-

I have no real grievance here. Just that some comics seems to be done in a rushed manner. And, that the variety in artwork from comic to comic in a continuing series is both refreshing at times and horrible.

Ps: This was basically A rant! Because I am pissed of that The amazing series Strange and Book of Doom are not going to be further conitued, I mean wtf wtf!!!!!!!!

due to your asanine posts in the BD I'm going to choose to discard your opinion.

^ Well the good thing about an Opinion is that even if no one else except it, it doesn't mean it will change. Therefore, assanine post or not, my subjective view is 100% right. Just as your subjective view of my assanineness is 100% right.

Actually, everyone is right:amazed

Meh, there is always ups and downs in comic books. This is reflected very well in long running series. There are some Batman arcs that are like "OMFG, THAT = TEH PWNAGE!!111 BEST COMIC SERIES EVA!!11" and others that are just meh and pretty boring IMO. Same goes for Flash, Spiderman, JLA, X-men, etc...

If you see a noticeable decline in the quality of long running series lately, this could be due in large part to the changes both Marvel and DC are doing to their universe. DC has most of their best talent working on IC and the various tie in's and mini series revolving around it and it has definatly payed off IMO. Same with Marvel, they are trying new and different things and have redistributed some of their talent to other ventures I believe (although this didnt pay off quite so well IMO, but that may just be me).

Totally agree- IC and House of M are the best comics to have come out in a long time, very rich and detailed plots, and beautiful artwork

If you want back to the basics comics, read Invicible, its also pretty cool

I love you Manga Cult!! (And Nybs too, for making the MC :P)

..I without draw may claim, due to reading spiderman the other. My annoyance was with Dc, really and not Marvel. And, I wasn;t talking about mini series.

Anyway
spiderman the other>>>>>>>>>>> ALL comics ever written.

-I'm still pissed that the series Strange isn't continuing, I mean wtf strange can have amazing stories.
