I own a sitar. No idea how to play it. Got it and a string broke. Otherwise i might have learned. Let me tell you its impossible to find someone who can string a sitar in northern indiana. So now i have a neat room ornimate that smells like pumpkin.

As my profile says, I can play the guitar, violin, and drums. I am currently in a Black Metal band, mentioning what songs I can play would be pointless because I know that less than half of you would know them, which is a good thing. Death to False Metal.

I use to play bass guitar in a few bands, some of them groove and jazz, some other rock and punk, some other rythm'n'blues. And I use to play Clarinette, which is quite a cool instrument, as long as you don't play too much of Mozart and Bach^^.

No, viola is practically the same as violin, but instead of an high "e" chord, it has an additional deep "c" chord (or is "string" the word? ^^''). Because it is bigger, it has a deeper and warmer sound (which I love a lot ^.^). You have to do more work with the bow to get a nice sound out of it, though... oh, and the notes are written in viola clef instead of violin clef, which is rather annoying if you've only known violin clef before... ~__~

I play in marching band (yeah I know, I'm sure that just sounds so exciting to you guys), I can play trumpet but I really play french horn, as in it's my primary instrument, and I know a crapload of old school video game themes. I'm also in the process of learning guitar right now. Can't play much yet...aside from Zelda and Mario Brothers and some random classic rock stuff. Eventually I'll get better and I can start a garage band. w00t!

I only have an acoustic guitar, I got it like 6 months ago, first guitar I've ever owned and I'm still learning :D What I really wanted was a cherry red electric guitar. I didn't have enough money at the time though, I'm really impationt and I wanted a guitar badly so I just bought what I could afford : a Jay Jr. acoustic guitar (I'm not all that keen on brand names n whatnot :D) with all the other stuff I got (guitar cover, picks, books with DVD on how to play) The guitar itself was like 75 dollars... All of it came out to be over 130 dollars I had JUST enough. I know a bunch of chords and I can read music fairly well, but I still cant to the b chord, DAMNIT! And I still cant play any songs :D

I have a piano, Stieff & Sohn style, quite old. I learn very quickly
and I can play many songs smoothly in less than two weeks time,
and memorize in a months time. I'm talking about late-intermediate
songs. For very advanced songs, such as the 3rd movement of Moonlight
Sonata, it took me two months to play smoothly, five months to
play it at the required tempo, and six months to memorize it. Still
nothing compared to some of my friends, though. :)

Er. No. I can easily play Alot of FF6's songs on my guitar. Mostly Kefka's Theme, The Main Battle Theme, and the Boss Battle Theme(Which has a Badass intro that sounds like slayer if played at the same speed).
anyway, as for instruments. I play the guitar, and from that, I can play that Piano. Give me enough time to figure out where notes are on an instrument and I can play about anything.

I play the drums doing random gigs generally in the jazz society with musicians two to three times my age! Also, I've marched snare drum and bass drum in East Lake marching bands and we were the Florida state champions last season. I can play otherworld on the drums, but that's easy. I can play the majority of Tool's Lateralus (minus some double bass, considering I can only get 16th notes on the bass drum up to maybe 160 tops due to only having single bass pedal).

Thanks, it kinda sucked though. It started raining right when we got on the field and after the last bands for semi's played, final's got called off because the fields were "unsafe", and since we had the highest score going into finals, we got the title. The seniors were pissed, moreso than everyone else, cause we had a better show in us. But, eh, whatever. It was fun. The show this year was nuts though. Here's the music. (http://www.keypoulan.com/marching.html) Click on heartbeat. The 3rd movement, Heart Attack, is the craziest. Musicwise, it's just there, and for the drill, it was power set after power set. Most of the time we're jazz running it, and at 185-200, that's kinda tiresome. Our drill was done by one of the lead drill writers for drum corps, and the fact that we're the smallest band to ever get a state championship title (82 members) was pretty cool too.

My marching band played his Locomotion for our last show. My band's a group 5, (111 members) which means that we are in the most competitive group of marching band, group 5 open. And it is vicious. In our all-state championships we were marching in 32-33 degree weather, but we still marched our best show. Our drill was crazy, though. In movement 4, end of the line, we had to dash across the field. (16 steps in 4 counts, a distance of about 10 yards)
Mary no jutsu, are you a drum major?

I don't know which is worse, marching in 32 in full uniform or marching in 100+ in full uniform..But N.C. has some crrrrazy good marching bands.
Keramachi

100+ degree weather in full uniform? Yikes... NJ has some pretty damn good bands, too. Immaculata HS (VERY prestigious school, people convert to Catholisicm just to go there) marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade a couple years back, and we had to compete against them. Many times over. Dosen't that sound fun?
But, I should probably be keeping this thread on topic.

Haha, yeah. But maybe they win because they're good. We have Tarpon Springs High who litterally plays the same show with the exception of a few notes and a page or two of drill every year for the past 7 years. They flood the field with props so you can't see how crappy their drummer is, they use the same flags and the same annoying talking guy every year, their notes are generally scales, they don't have a drumline, and last but not least, their backfield drummer has a metrenome in his ear (yes, this has all been proven). But somehow, every year at every BOA event, they win.

I'm really good at the xylophone. Whenever we used to play it school i was the best. I also know a few guitar chords but prefer the bass. I played flute for a year. I can play right-handed piano, tambourine, the electric organ and the recorder as well! I do a little of everything but I'm exceptional at nothing.

I play the piano (typical asian). I want a grand piano + start playing guitar. Well ... My 'word' of wisdom is... never cut off 5 minutes of practice, it adds up. And no matter how hard you try it's never good enough. It's a tough world out there... and when teachers catch you procastinating, they can be jugdemental, very judgemental. It cost more of less $40 dollars for a private lesson. Around $15 for a group thing. But don't start, save yourself.

I've been playing guitar for eight years. I'm not really any good as I can't play bar chords to save my life, but I can sure as hell finger pick the mother. My favorite song to play is Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You by Zepplin. I also know how to play the piano and harmonica.
Never took lessons, and never really want to. Unless its a good friend or something who wants to show me something.
I want to own a guitar that my friend CB builds. He's really good at building them, and has quite a selection now, so just having one by him would be an honor (he is a friend of mine, so it would be cool to play on something he built. *shrug*).

I can play the piano, SOME of the guitar (I was almost a year into my lessons before things came up and I had to quit), some of the flute (a hobby I adandoned as a child), and violin. I'm sure there are more I've experimented with, but I just can't think of them at the moment. I've considered having my friend teach me how to play the drums, but let's just say more things came up and we couldn't get to that.
Before I die, I plan to be able to play maaaaany, many instruments. I love music, I love writing music, and I WILL PREVAIL IN DOING SO!! MWUAHAHAHAHAHA~[/end rant]

It's been about four years since I was in my violin class, but if my memory serves me right; it's like a smaller version of the violin. I'm not sure if there are differences in the strings, or anything, but it just has an all around higher sound than the violin because it's so much smaller.

I've played flute for...about 12 years now though I don't sound like it. I've played piccolo for 5 years. In high school I took up trombone so that I could join the jazz band and maybe be a little useful since flutes were kinda shoved aside.
I also sing. I don't think I sing badly but my range sucks. I'm about two notes shy reaching the highest note to be a true alto and two notes shy on the low end to be a true tenor. But I enjoy singing. I haven't done chorus in years but I still do the occasional karaoke (even if it means singing a song that was made famous by a guy).

Well, like I said, I'm not very good, I enjoy playing Jazz and Ska with my saxophone, which I have more experience with. Some of my personal favorites are "Take Five", "Maputo", and "Southern Exposure" (not the song by Yanni :smile-big ) for Jazz, and (during my failed Ska band experiment) "Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts", "The Beer Song", and 'Far Behind".
Hopefully over the summer I can have more time to play and actually get decent with the cornet... When you don't have classes that require you to play music, it gets much harder to find time to practice. :notrust
Dave Brubeck 's Take Five!!! Man do I love that song. You get a rep for making a reference for the Dave :P

So make one! Not for me, but for teh ppl who demand it! :wink
Fruity Loops is easy in use, and has quite cool built in effects, and is good enough for me most of the time... at least untill I'm trying to do some progressive stuff with wacky timing. Ejay imo sux, and I'm just too lazy to learn how to use Reason 2.5.
At the moment my FL with additional samples, soundfonts and plugins occupies over 3,5GB of hard drive space, so I've got everything I want, maybe except mentioned "weird noises", and ambient nature sounds...
And since it's musician thread: I also play some guitar, but only in home or with a friend, no real band so far...
So make one! Not for me, but for teh ppl who demand it! :wink
I will I will :laugh. But first I want to find as many free programs to add to the resource thread along with reviews for each program. I will post one this weekend :amuse.
If you or Cata would like to contribute, just pm me the info to add in the thread :)

I suggest if you want to gte off beats use the piano roll option over the beat map it allows you to input off beats as wells as change the pitch of the pliug-in your using in that channel

Hokageryu.
It's a program that simulates music creation by allowing you to program thousand of different sounds into a track style formatt.
By playing around with drum beats, it's easy to make bad techno...
for me, it's the wierd stuff I like playing with to make really creepy ambient music that doesn't sound right :)
Hoka, dont worry mate, Ill be posting a thread about music creation programs for the pc this weekend hopefully :amuse

I'm aware of that, but it's kind of useless with a bunch of the sound effects. :)
I haven't been playing with it lately, but intend to get back to it...especially after I get a frigging microphone.

I play guitar and a little of bass and drums. I make up my own stuff usually, but I can play stuff by RHCP, RAtM, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Hendrix, Santana, Beatles, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Dave Matthews Band, The Seatbelts, Phish, and Chevelle. I like to dabble in everything.

Well,I'm a young metalhead....and has little experience in music since i have only studied music for less than a year.
1.Classic Guitar (approx 9 months)
2.Drums(Approx 3 months)
3.Electric(Starting on nxt month)
4.Saxophone(4 months)
Oh well,i don't have musical talent but i am rather...errm...clever.....so i tend to progress faster than average people......sorry if you think i think so highly of myself but i'm a humble one...as i **** compared to so many of you....my goal in life which i must achieve is to form a black metal band.....hopefully when im 18 i will be able to form 1 and have enough practice.......

I can read music, compose music, and also sing. I've sung for the late Pope and the Queen of England.

I play the Piano and guitar. I was formally schooled with the piano for 10 years with a personal teacher, I can read music and stuff and not to brag but I used to play pretty good, I stopped my piano schooling bout 2 years ago and my skills prolly deteriorated over time without my daily practice. :)

I do, I play guitar in a rock band although it's hard to pin us to a genre.
We're influenced by alot of small UK bands like Biffy Clyro, 65daysofstatic, oceansize and make a kinda modern post rock sound... I love it.

I play the flute and I'm currently starting to get into jazz and improvisation. I guess that can count as composing. :)
My boyfriend is really into electronic music and remixes (plus he can play piano and french horn). He likes to take songs with similar chords and chord progressions and mesh them together. Some of his creations can be found here.

me I play gutiar and bass mainly and write music on them
I play and write jazz and funk, blues and rock
used to write metal and alt when I was younger but grew out of it.
I'm getting ready to start up a project with two other guys that I played with be for that allows to use the bass as the lead instrument, somthing that I have expermented with for years but never had a chance to expand on.
also I work in beat machine programs like fruity Loops as well but thats more me just playing around.

I've been playing alto/tenor sax for about nine years. Picked up the guitar about 2 years ago and I've learned half of the solo in Hotel California (by The Eagles) and I have this rinky-dink, old school Yamaha keyboard on which I can play the theme to Jurassic Park and other simple songs... I am a sad being, yes I know... I need to practice.
