whether or not we are causing Global warming does not matter. We should be trying to prevent it from happening if anything. Perhaps if we paid a little more attention to the enviornment we woulden't have to worry about it.

When Alaskan permafrost is melting for the first time in 10,000 years-- something native tribes don't even have LEGENDS about-- and local villages are having mudslides...

IT'S OBVIOUSLY NOT GETTING ANY COLDER!

PS: Over the next couple weeks, I can't guarantee how often I'll be able to check in here, but I will still try to post at least 3 chapters of the Book of Hondo each week.

Hey. Did U meant 'warming' or 'worming' LOL

OMG worms gonna eat us alive:eek

Edit: But seriously, I've read many articles saying that global warming will do some serious harm to the world, and I've read as much articles saying that we shouldn't worry to much and it won't be that bad. I don't really know what to think about it.

the world will end in 50 years? Wasn't it that we will run out of oil in 50 years? By which then the florida keys and 1/3 of florida will be under water ;)

Prevent global warming? global warming happens on it's own. We're just accurating it in an unimaginal pace which the world can't adapt to fast enough.

Plus even if we just cut off all use of greenhouse gases one day, the plant would still keep heating up. It takes like 10 years for them to raise and then break down into other greenhouse gases that are less harmless but still harmful ( i'm not sure if this applies to only CFC's or all green house gases )

Global warming could be responsible for the deaths of humans (if not the entire race, then at least a majority). But not the destructions of the Earth.

Also, no one knows the exact date of the end of the world. To assume what it is is a bit rich. Then when it ends on April Fools' Day, those people are going to eat their words.

Eh, I sure hope 'Global Worming' won't be conducive to out demise. Worms are grotesque.

Global warming does suck, but I've read that the earth's natural "warming" is significant enough where even if humans stopped their portion of it, the Earth would heat up anyway.

However, I don't expect to see anything happen while I'm alive.

Did you know forests contribute to the temperature to Earth because they absorb heat because of their dark leaves?
The desert is also a form of reflector of heat and sun rays which helps contribute to keeping the Earth's temperature balanced. Some eviromentalists plan on sticking a crap load of solar panels out in some random desert, which solar panels also store heat(makes sense) which can lead to rise in global temperature as well.

Just some key things you may want to think about with this current subject.

Global worming must be some internet-phenomenon in context with that old rumour livechat inspired between the saucy teenagers of Wales, right?

The rumour for those of you who dont know it: "Girls on teh internet?"
And the also fairly well known "Teh internet is for pr0n", although sources indicate that there is rivalry between the present organisations and denominative factors which tie the two together in the debate of an intarweb's true nature.

Personally I think the title was a typ-oh(MG) but that is up to the average individual to realise, regardless of gender. Global warming is far more interesting in my opinion, and strangely enough I seem to realise that one half is discussing this environmental issue whilst the other half is questioning the theory of global worming.

It's a difficult choice to pick a subject to side with, so I will ask a favor of the thread's author to explain what the topic is.

Nonono and NO. You people have got it all. Global warming will cause the next ice age. And before you shout, "hey dipshit, that doesn't make sense", hear what I have to say. Well what is happening, is that the warmer Gulf stream is melting more of the polar ice caps. This melted water, is fresh water, not salt water, so it swims above the salt water. This fresh water slows down the undercurrent of the gulfstream, the water flowing south, I can't remember how but I know it does, and so the gulf stream is weakening. It doesn't flow as far north as it used to, and many parts of nothern europe (where I live) are experiencing the results already. Anyway, with the gulfstream weakening the polar icecaps will form again and reach much much further south and take over teh_world!! O_x
So prepare for an ice-age!!

i cant say much because i dont know the facts about this issue. But all i got to say is that Georgia hasnt been extremely cold much over the past few weeks. I'm hopin it will get below 30 so it'll gace a chance of snowing. It was pretty warm suprising today and it's January. I wonder if this is a record. But anyway, i would prolly be more interested in this if the temperatures over the past 100 years increased over the years.

Global Warming is a big issue but at this point it is impossible to decipher whether it is a natural cycle or the cause of the human races emissions. Personally I think that it is a combination of both, but as has been mentioned before even if we stopped greenhouse gases the earth would be heating up.

so what? The more water the more CO it will absorb, expanding it and raising sea levels! Plus there are vast amounts of methane in the polar caps. Plus the polar cups reflect the sun (like already mentioned). Do you see where I’m going with this? One problem leads to another. (dominos effect)

The last little ice age happened because lake Algonquin ( giant lake where the great lakes are now) flowed into the sea and messed up the gulf stream. Sounds a lot like what’s happening right now but with the polar caps. I’m sure we don’t have to worry about this because by then the ozone layer at the North Pole will most likely deplete, 2 out of 3 austrians will have some sort of skin cancer thanks to the depletion of the ozone layer at the south pole.

Well, Satan hates all of God's creation; his primary goal is to subvert humanity (from Adam and Eve to Revalations) and sunder humans from God (Forbidden Fruit).

Maybe after he does this, than he wants to destroy the Earth? :P

All scientific evidence (strong evidence) points to the global "worming" However, we humans have lived on Earth for a relatively short time, so scientists still aren't too sure of how the weather patterns will change or how much the average temperatures will rise by. Currently they have very powerful supercomputers and complex algorithms to predict weather 50 years from now... we already kno how reliable the weekly forecast is

sorry to ruin your fun, but weather and climate are two different things. So you should think twice about keeping that “sarcastic” remark at the end.

Plus there are geographical evidence of temperatures increasing and decreasing.

sorry to ruin your fun, but weather and climate are two different things. So you should think twice about keeping that “sarcastic” remark at the end.

Climate, the long-term effect of the sun's radiation on the rotating earth's varied surface and atmosphere. (Encarta Encyclopedia 2003)

Weather differs from climate, which is the weather that a particular region experiences over a long period of time. Climate includes the averages and variations of all weather elements. (Encarta Encyclopedia 2003)

First of all, I didn't compare climate and weather did I? We already know that climate changes on a large scale over time (thousands, millions of years), i.e. the Ice Age. Generally when we are talking about global warming caused by greenhouse gases, we refer to the short-term, regional effects on the weather that this warming trend will have in the next few decades.

And essentially, that last "sarcastic remark" bears warranted validity since the algorithms used to predict weather every week is the same the ones used to predict weather in 50 years. The results are radically different in these calculations, some predict changes in a few degrees while others see a increase of dozens of degrees.

These "few degrees" are enough to worry humans tho, it can mean melting ice caps that will encroach on coastal cities, or the viability of traditional crops. From a global perspective, "changes in weather patterns" in these upcoming decades is a very appropriate.

There might be some climate changes where savannahs turn into desert, but generally speaking, tropical regions will remain tropical and arid will stay arid. "Changes in weather pattern" will be a much more universal experience for the world, cuz if global warming is occuring, almost every part of the globe will see atleast modest changes in temperature and precipitation; on the contrary, this does not necessarily mean the region's climate has changed!!!

Plus there are geographical evidence of temperatures increasing and decreasing.

WTF? That sentence makes no sense at all; even if someone could infer ur meaning, the sentence just stating the obvious. Weather changes daily and the climate changes with or without humans; that is why global warming effects refers to "weather patterns." Did u truly believe that movie "Day After Tomorrow" or somethin...

The world's going to end on 6/6/06? Now that's absurd, considering that that's less than five months away now.

But it is true that the earth is being effected by global warming, evident in the hotter weather we get. And it's the result of the greenhouse effect. It's because of all the CFC gases in the atmosphere. They destroy the ozone molecules, which makes up the ozone layer (duh), and that's the layer that protects us from the harmful UV rays.

That's all I can remember from Geography class.
