Gundam SEED Destiny, "The chosen future" discussion

Well, I figured since it's out and all, and people should have watched it by now, I'd start a discussion thread.

So, what did you all think about it? Good? Bad? Could have been better? Lots of stuff to talk about, so talk.

Here's a short rant I have.

This was the ending Destiny should have had from the very beginning. Eventhough like 90% of the episode was the same as the last episode, the remaining 10% of new stuff was really good. I think it was alot better that they added all these small elements to make it more interesting.

I loved the end of it too, eventhough it was like: "Hi! I'm Captain Obvious, duh!".

Athrun was like: "This is Kira, Kira Yamato, Freedom's pilot."

Shinn and Luna: "EEEEEEEH!?"

But I really liked what Kira said. "Let us fight together."

This could not only be a very good end to Destiny, but an excellent beginning to something new. Shinn, Kira and Athrun on the same side against the new badguys. And hopefully this time, Shinn will be the real main character.

I don't know if I could handle another Gundam series though. My suprising foray into Mecha land might be ending but if it's the same characters and still good music I'll still watch. o_O

He is. With Lacus gaining top ranks in ZAFT, he could probably be up there somewhere too. Having the best of both worlds, what a guy. :P

I was happy with having 'Vestige' as the opening song for the episode too with Kira and Athrun in all their glory minus Shinn. I do start to like Shinn in this episode though especially towards the end. I loved the part when Shinn had that flashback of meeting Kira earlier before the war and the ending song flows in... That was the best ending I could ask for. :amuse

Anyhows this ep was a lot better than Phase 50. The battle scenes made a lot more sense and more logical too. The clashes didnt look as rushed as they did in ep 50. It also flowed a lot better.

What did seem weird was the voice acting. It seemed a little strange. I m guessing that after not doing anything on GSD for a few months cause the Voice actors to forget the type of voice and tones they used for there characters:amuse

finally managed to DL the S^M version... well i guess its Destiny's real ending if it were given like 2-3 episodes more with some minor adjustments like asuxcaga ain't over yet, rey and shinn took a little more time to pwn, and that thing where athrun followed kira in messiah... everything else was just phase 50... and oh... we did get to see some damage on the heros like the damage on dom trooper unit 001 and on dearka's phantom. we also get to see SHIHO AGAIN!!!:laugh (maybe that black and red warior/phantom we saw in the past was hers) personaly, i liked this more than phase 50... i think this is GSD's version of End of EVA... :P although there are still a lot of questions left unanswered.

One question though... shin+kira+athrun fighting together is indeed a good line to open up a 3rd SEED series, but i wonder where could the next conflict come from? cagalli is the head of ORB, Lacus is up there in ZAFT. so could it be that the EAF will be the ones again to cause the new confilct? or will aliens start coming to earth ala super robot show style then invade plant first on their way to earth?:P if that happens i believe that would be a first for gundam...

Wow even knew I already knew all the shocking parts thanks to the dumbed down last episode we were forced to see, this was still a bit impacting. Why didn't they just wait a few weeks before releasing epi 50 is beyond me..this was so much better.

edit: As to where the next conflict could come from..could be something crazy like some people have joked around about Lacus going Darth Vader!. Revealing everything went according to plan *nod* or some galactic disaster that a complete alliance of Zaft and EA is needed to beat *Stelvia!*

Maybe conflicts for a 3rd Seed would come from some similar to the rogue co-ordinator group in GSD? Small army of elites with powerful mobile suits would be to be a good challenge and foe for the super pilots like Kira and Athrun. It may be better to focus on small groups rather than the entire picture.

I saw it and I like it. Also I like the scene where Shinn goes insane(when he sees his sister and Stellar being "taken" by Freedom). He completly has this awsome look on his face. I also like how shocked Luna was by learning of Shinn's loss, meaning he's been hiding it along with his ORB citizenship, and played it off like he was a regular PLANT citizen.

Still, I want another one that actually STARS Shinn and not have him be the fill-in boy for thirteen episodes until the poster boy comes in and takes over.

Much better, especially the ending, and everything with Shinn. He continues to be my favorite character period. The music was even better then usual, a lot of Phase 50's problems were fixed(but the Shinn losing and Kira miraculously escaping remain, the latter getting even more unbelievable with Athrun thrown in).

I liked how the Orb forces didn't seem quite as untouchable in this version, even though all the main Orb characters survived. They probably should have destroyed the Archangel, it would have given more emotion, and the characters on it don't really serve any purpose except to have pointless scenes of Murrue ordering them to evade fire and showing Miriallia once every 10 episodes.

The ending OVA was definetely a lot better than the crappy episode 50 we were left with.

Scenes were beautifully constructed. As others have mentioned, the Fields of Hope with the retreat signals, and also the very end when the ending song plays after Kira's dramatic lines 'We can replant them. That is what we are fighting for. Let's fight together.'

I didn't like Shinn through the whole series. This has renewed him quite a bit.

I would've liked to see a better wrapup of the relationships though, but I guess that wasn't too important to the central storyline. Still would've been nice. For one, Athrun / Cagalli / Meyrin love triangle. And then there's Mu and Murrue, but it's pretty obvious that they're probably off making babies somewhere.

A 3rd series seems possible, though they'd be milking the GS for all it's worth. I guess they could have the EAF start up the conflict again, and as someone has said in their reply already, have a coordinator that wishes to destroy Kira in order to get their existence recognized or something.

Bah who am I kidding, if they made a 3rd series it'd probably be even worse than GSD, which was bad enough already.

One thing I didn't get was when the Neo-Genesis fired. Mu/Akatsuki was stuck in the blast and Athrun calls out 'Captain!' It looked like Mu was on the brink of death again, but then he miraculously SOMEHOW survives and destroys the thing with Athrun.

I actually enjoyed this ending. The main reason: It was an actual ending!
We finnally get so see what immediately happens after the battle:
~A cease fire (yes, I agree the scene with all those flares in the sky was beautiful..^_^)
~Anthrun going to pick up shin and Luna,
~Anthrun appearing in the final confrontation between Kira and Gilbert :S
~Orb and Plant representative signing a peace treaty
~Apparently the relationships are set (AnthrunXMeryin, ShinnXLuna, ~KiraXLacus..okay the last one was a given xDD)
~Kira and Shin face to face meeting: I totally failed to realize that shinn after all his battles with freedom never got to see the pilots face. Wow, he must have been shocked, I guess he was probably ecpecting some gruff, scowling, sculpted guy but instead came across this person with the most gentle features and facial composition :laugh
~Is it me or did Yzak and Derka get a bit more screen time this time around? :lmao

If she really became the chairwoman in PLANT, which she probably did, that would mean the story would have to focus alot on her since she is the leader of the coordinators. And with that said, it is safe to say that Kira would play a big role because he is her boyfriend. Athrun too would play a big part because of his friendship with Kira and Lacus.

That would make it into another Destiny more or less. Of course, the other people from the old cast would have to play a role too, taking up even more space and glory from the new cast.

But, they could fix this problem in a number of ways.

Alternative 1.

Make the whole Archangel crew retire, and have a new cast take over the ship, or a completely new ship, with the Archangel hidden in ORB. This would not only make room for new characters, but a whole new story. Then have Kira, Athrun or whatever act as teachers for these people. And there would be one of these kids (a Shinn-type of character) that would stand out in this group, and this guy would become the next Kira.

Follow the Destiny Astray characters (after Destiny ended).

Or, they could just make a whole new gundam universe.

But in my opinion, no matter how hard they try, they can't surpass Tomino's Universal Century. :)

all right I'm very late to watch this, I downloaded it when it came out and thought it would be all the same with just some few new scenes that didn't do anything to the story. just like the GS OVA.
But I'm glad I saw it, cuz I really disliked the old ending. And I tought to myself "yes!! that's ho a ending suposed to be like"

They can make a storyline which seems totally unrelevant to GS/GSD line but contribute to the main story in a certain way or change the outcome of a bigger event like butterfly effect.
In UC timeline, Gundam 8th MS team and 0083 have little to do with the NTs but rich the story and fill in the gaps.
Maybe they can do the same with GS3

Unfortunately, Shinn is a much more realistic person you can meet in a real life.

Well the problem is that in Lacus's walking scen, where most people get the idea she will be the Chairman, you can see the Second Chair of the Council of ZAFT/PLANT in the backround when you see where she's walking. You also see her again in another scene wondering what Gilbert is doing. Lacus is said to be working as a meiator for an alliance and peace between ZAFT+Countries that signed into alliance with ZAFT and accepted the Destiny Plan V. ORB which is at a HUGE disadvantage. But with the lead force of the countries, ZAFT, under a huge dent in forces and resources, it boils down to the fact that if they make peace, the other nations will follow.

As for ORB being alone, the report to Gil on the Destiny Plans acception was complete besides two nations. One, ORB which of coarse was expected. And Scandanavia, which was being controlled by LOGOS through their Prime Minister and is most likely filled with the radicalists of Blue Cosmos. Besides, they were the country whose capital was first destroyed by Requium when ZAFT first fired it.

Being that, I doubt three Gundams could defeat the entire worlds recources of mobile suits and practically infinate number of soldiers. Yes ORB has its own forces, but against the world? Come on.

But, it seems Gil acted with out consulting the Council of ZAFT/PLANT and acted in what most of the council probably believes, to be a rash and tyranical move. Thus, they most likely want peace as well.

As for the next Gundam Seed...something where Kira isn't the all mighty and always right, which seemed to be how it became twoards the end. I mean, it was really hard to tell who was the badguy in this one, which may be why its so unpopular with a society that likes those things written in stone, and is maybe why I like it better than SEED where one side was good while another was bad. It just seems like war really is and how theres no real badguy from the spectators side.

Maybe this is where the series should end. No, Kira. No more Shinn. No more Athrun, Mu, Murre, etc. Let them rest as legends in their own time, and lets have a new story with new hero's and hero's that conflict with the first group. And keep Fukada away from Gundam...and everything else he does.

Personally i would like to see the EA break up. Old tensions between the Atlantic and Eurasian Federation escalate into a war where people are just left to sit by and watch. Maybe add a conspiracy like some representatives getting assassinated during a press conference to declare their neutrality. Something like that would be awesome.

i think that the EA breakup has partly happened in GSD... remember that a lot of the earth countries took part in the new earth aliance including orb because of those damned seirans... argh... towards the end, when gil identified logos, many earth nations joined forces with ZAFT and actually declared war upon EA loyal countries...

True but all we saw once those forces allied themselves with ZAFT was them getting thrown in front of ZAFT forces to take all of the damage (like at the battle at Heaven's Base). Im thinking more along the lines of a really focues Eurasian vs Atlantic Federation conflict. Something other than anti-coordinator to fuel a war. The whole "your coordinators so were gonna blow you up thing" is slightly worn at this point in time.
