Hey hey, as the latest episode aired we saw a drastic change in Naruto's voice when he was kyuubified :narutokyu ... well when the nine tails took over for those who didn't see the japanese versions... Anyway, what do you guys think of the demonic sounding voice? I like it because it overrides Naruto's normal voice, which in my opinion is kind of annoying. However, it seems a lil too demonic or something. What do you all think?

I love his Kyuubi voice. It surpassed everything I'd imagined for Dub Kyuubi Naruto. I was incredibly surprised and impressed. <333

I agree. The dub demon voice definately surpassed the original. I liked the special effect and the tone of voice was perfect. That's the best I've heard in this dub. I loved it. 10/10.:narutokyu

Maile has definately improved. Normally she sounds a little flat, but she let out a lot of feeling with this. I hope she keeps this up.

I knew they were gonna mess with the voice, so naturally I was worried. Of couse, as always with this dub, they handled it EXCELLENTLY! I never have to worry about how they're gonna handle something in this dub again! THIS KYUUBI VOICE MADE THE WHOLE EPISODE WORTH IT! And the preview for next week... absolutely CHILLING. I was actually a little afraid of Kyuubi Naruto.

>_< Of all days for my cousins to be in a play, it had to be TODAY!!! AND when my vcr wasn't working!! GAH!!!(was really looking forward to hearing dub kyuubi naruto) Either way, i guess i'll just have to wait untill the 31st. (Thank you cartoonetwork for your excessly huge marathon!!!) Though i'm really glad to see that a lot of people thought it was done great. ^^ It makes me all the more eager to hear it! XD

Maile did a GREAT job with the emotion, especially in:

"I'm gonna KILL YOU!"

The Episode preview, and Maile's scream at the end of the preview. Made me a little scared!

evil voices always sound better in english. you can put more emotion into each individual word, since they dont string together like japanese speech

The demonic voice was cool, much more "evil" than the Japanese one... But you could really tell that it was feminine, or at least I picked up on that >.< Doesn't matter, though (:

I've got to second pretty much everyone here. Dub Naruto's Nine-Tails voice was chilling. You could really hear the rage and murderous intent in it. The dub VAs are really improving, and they're doing pretty well in all the parts we were afraid they'd screw up. I've even warmed up to Sakura's dub voice, whose was probably the most annoying of them all.

Man, you guys have got no idea how much you've relieved me with this discussion.

I missed this episode, and the thing I was most worried about all along was Kyuubi Naruto's voice, since his one lines + various grunts and such in episode 17 sounded so COOL. I was so worried that they'd mess it the HELL up.

I can't wait to catch this rerun on Friday.:spaz

This was the first time I loved Maile's Naruto voice. It's probably the only voice I don't like in the dub but the demon voice? Wow, I loved it. Keep it up.

I happend to catch the end of the epi (since I never miss Bobobo =P) and i'm not the biggest fan of the dub :sweat with that said, that voice was not even close to being better than the original, "Dub>original"...thats just crazy talk.
Not only that but it wasn't even her voice alone, showing lack of range. If they were gonna synth her voice they coulda gone a little grungier.Maile really did sound like there was a fan between her and the mic LOL. :bye

better or not than the original, its a pretty good adaptation, and it conveys the rage quite good.... good enough that if someone hears the dub 1st, they will probably like it over the original.

As for the effects done... that's exactly what effects are for, to enhance an voice to match a specific emotion, I dont see anyone complaining about the echo when Sasuke shouts "KATON!" in the original... that's just one example.

The Dub has been doing most things good since episode one.

Not really. Of course I am still used to the jap voices. I think they screwed up Naruto's and Sasuke's voices.

Naruto's demon voice was very good. At first I was a little worried, but after Naruto said," I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" I was very pleased. That means there is still hope for other characters, though I would laugh my ass off if they gave Oro a "Michael Jackson accent."

What cracked me up was when Kyuubi-Naruto's voice did the preview for the next episode, and then they had regular Naruto's voice take over to announce the name of the episode. :laugh

Bad example? a special effect is any effect done to enhance the voice acting, and the echo does teh same in the example I mentioned... changing the actual voice or not is irrelevant; we both know the voice lacks range so there's a even more reason to do it this way, question is, why would this be looked down upon?

Glad to see you feel the same :laugh but I never said it was bad they did that..just that if they were gonna do it they could have done better than how it turned out. Answer to your question, it's looked down upon because it shows just how bad said VA is (as if it wasn't blatantly obvious).

While effects do enhance things they are most commonly used for things that cannot be achieved through normal techniques, which makes changing a voice or not very relevant since a person echoing their own voice would be quite unconventional and would need that effect added. Acting out emotion or being able to growl while speaking on the otherhand is totally do-able and would/should not require outside assistance.

You're misreading what I put. I never said the echo was bad. I agree it does add power too a voice but again an echo isn't something that can be done without an effect, giving justification...also power isn't an emotion.
I simply said it was a bad example, needing effects too sound angry (which is an emotion) isn't the same as a nice echo which has nothing to do with emotion what so ever. See what i'm getting at?

It might not matter to you but it sure as hell matters to me :P. Honestly what good is she if she can't do her job? I know if I did a crappy job i'd be fired on the spot :cry. Yes it it is an unfair comparison between her and Junko but how about between her and Wendee Lee or any other GOOD English VA.

Yes, I know you base your POV on acting skill... and you shouldn't, because at the end, the scene was done and it was good, and you just think less of it because "its not her real voice". Like saying "that army of 10000 men isn't real, cant they hire 10000 extras to make it real?" during a war movie, all you're doing is cheating yourself from being entertained.

Sad thing is, if it happened the other way around... had Maile done those lines without help, it would've come out poor or average at least, which would make people go "OMG THATS SO LAME, CANT YOU ACT? PUT A DAMN SFX YOU LAZY BUMS?" and dont tell me they wouldn't.

I respect you POV, but the bottom line its just there to stop you from enjoying a well done adaptation of a great scene.

You are totally right about me cheating myself but is it so wrong to like things too be as authentic as they can possibly be.
If something is possible without CG send a stuntman in or use an appropriate number of actors, I want real fire,water whatever.It's fine when they need an insane amount of people like you said. If it can be done without effects it's fully supported by me. If it's acting like you just watched your friend/rival get killed, I appreciate some raw emotion. I feel less cheated that way and makes getting into the feel of the scene soooo much easier aswell as 100x more enjoyable.

Don't think this can go any further :laugh but i'm glad to see intelligent conversations still exist around here. Resorting to childish name calling didn't happen once smile-big lol. I too respect your POV.

Even though I enjoyed it, I look at it this way:

Though it wasn't Maile's original voice, when Naruto is under Kyuubi's influence, he isn't exactly his original self either. His eyes change, he grows fangs, and he gains chakra which isn't his either. It makes logical sense that something which isn't his should be added to his voice to enhance the fact that he is Kyuubified. Riku in Kingdom Hearts is another perfect example of this.

Very true.

The voice effects were not for making Maile's voice sound angrier. The purpose of the added effect was to show that Naruto was not normal and to add more to the voice. They were merely "demonizing" the voice.

A LOT of shows, especially cartoons and theres also video games, use similar voice effects to show that the character is possessed, not human, transformed, etc. That is what is going on in this dub.

That is why I liked Maile's Kyuubified Naruto better; it had a effect that showed that Kyuubi's no joke. When I first saw this scene in the Japanese version, I was kind of hoping for an effect simular to this one. I hope Viz keeps this up.:amuse
