Philosopher's Stone. Although the second & third came close, none of the other books truly captured the lighthearted wonder and excitement of the original book. And by the way, it's called Philosopher's stone, Philosopher's stone. None of this Sorcerer crap.

goblet of fire most definently it just had the most action.

I'd heard something about Philosopher's Stone, but I wasn't sure if people would recognize it. So I put Sorcerer's. Sorry. :-/

I personally liked The Order of the Phoenix. It showed more of the world of wizards and stuff and I liked all the underground resistance stuff. I thought that stuff was cool.

Umm... not too fond of the series anymore so Prisoner of Azkaban or something like that? Sirius Black izh cool. ^^

For me it would be the latest book so much was revealed and so much treachery, though the goblet of fire comes at a close second it was by far the most action packed book of the series thus far.

I absolutely loved Prisoner of Azkaban, then Order of the Phoenix. Loved them all, but these two stand out.
Book 7 shouldn't be in there; it's not out yet.

It's between Order and Prince. I'll need to read both of them once more to make a final decision, but I'm leaning more toward Prince at the moment. Also, there's nothing wrong with the title Sorcerer's Stone compared to Philosopher's Stone. You have your preferences as I have mine, so none is better than the other. I prefer SS anyway, as PS sounds odd while SS sounds better to me.

I'd chosen Chamber myself since the ending to that surprised me. Chamber spoiler below.
Possesed by Riddle or not, Ginny Weasley being the culprit blew me away. I figured it would be Percy since he was acting Itachi-ish. I know it seemed like they were purposefully pointing at Percy, especially towards the end, but I thought maybe it was like how Quirrell was the obvious first villain and maybe the trend would continue. Meh.

I've loved all the books...but my favorite is still Prisoner of Azkaban...it's probably the only one that I'd reread more than 5 times....it was just the best one in my opinion...so...I'm voting for Book 3 Prisoner of Azkaban.
Prisoner of Azkaban will always be my favorite. ^_^

Prisoner of Azkaban, it just had... something.
Second one was the worst, IMO.

I liked the Prisoner of Azkaban. Lots of Snape, lots of Sirius, and I was really surprised by the ending. Order of the Phoenix was alright too, but Harry really got on my nerves in it.

12-17-2005, 04:42 PM
For me it would be the goblet of fire.
Funny entertaining, and sad, all at the same time. As th books go on they get more depressing, especially book 6 or was it 5 both upset me, actually 6 was worst we had a build up to the death.
A lot of stuff happened in the Order of the Phoenix so i voted for that.
The Prisoner of Azkaban get's the 2nd place. :)

My favorite was CoS because that was the book that got me into the series. Ginny and Tom still remain my favorite character up until today. After that I'll have to say GoF, it was entertaining. I really didn't like Ootp and HBP because they seem too fanon-like. Although HBP bets GoF in terms of humor and "subtext" scenes. So much Harry and Draco smut, it's enough to keep every fan girl entertained.

My fav = Half Blood Prince
Philosopher's Stone: Eh, it was okay, too little kidsy (yeah yeah, it's a children's series ^_^)
Chamber of Secrets: It was fun, but still too kidsy
Prisoner of Azkaban: My second favorite. This one was well connected with itself, it had a circular feeling to it once it was over. Nothing was out of place and every detail had a purpose. Well done.
Goblet of Fire: My third favorite, although it did waver with unnecessary things (ex. S.P.E.W., Rita Skeeter's excessive articles) But it redeemed itself by resurrecting my favorite HP character, Voldemort
Order of the Pheonix: In my opinion, by far the worst thus far. Although it was long and a lot of information was given, I couldn't help but feel in the end that not much was accomplished. Basically it was just Harry angsting, Umbridge being annoying (what was the point of her, anyway?), the ministry being naive, and the Order being righteous. Then at the end a last-minute "action" scene was thrown in and Sirius was killed off to make the book seem like it had a purpose. All in all, I wasn't impressed.
Half-Blood Prince: Finally, a book almost as connected and circular as the third one! For the first time since book five I felt that the story was going somewhere. Also, more limelight was shed on Voldemort, my fav, and then my other favorite characters, Snape and Draco.
And then there's book seven...personally, I hope Voldemort wins, it would be so anticlimatic if Harry triumphed ^_^

Book Three for me. It was very clever and set a lot of things up (for example, Sirius). Also, it wasn't too long so it didn't slow down much.

Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite. I love them all, really, but no one dies in Azkaban and there's no direct interaction with Voldemort. He honestly scares the crap out of me.
Plus I love Sirius and Remus. And I like the fact that we finally find out something about James. Other than that Harry looks like him.

Prisoner of Azkaban for me. Had lots of action and suspense and a great story.
I've only read one Harry Potter book which is the Goblet of Fire. I've see the last three movies. I like that book the best because in my opinion it has the most action and...
Somebody actually dies at the end

I enjoyed Half-Blood Prince most because it was the most adult and we finally got to see how Voldemort became Voldemort.
In the Half-Blood Prince we get to see spells that are meant to inflict serious damage like what Harry used on Draco, Harry is going to need to learn to not only use spells with the intent to kill, but to do it without words. It was an excellent setup to Harry's final growth.
I want to see the final battle between Harry and Voldemort all the more after Half-Blood Prince.

Prisoner of Azkaban & Goblet of Fire tied for best IMO
Goblet of Fire was my favourite. The movie left out a lot of good details that were in the book.

12-31-2005, 01:32 AM
i voted half blood prince, but that was tied with order of the phoenix.
half blood prince was a more mature book and it got deeper in the use of spells. spells without speaking and reading someone's mind while doing spells(snape did with harry). it got me really excited for the 7th book.
i also like order of the phoenix alot because it showed harry as a real kid. he couldn't rely on dumbledore the whole time so he had to do things that he thought were for the best with lots of opposition. plus the fight with dumbledore and voldemort at the end was awesome.

1.Prisoner of Azkaban <----Voted for this
2.Order of the Phoenix
3.Sorcerer's Stone
4.Half-Blood Prince
5.Goblet of Fire
6.Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban, dunno why.
Maybe because in this books the arc "OMG We're fucked!! Voldemort is coming back!!" started?

I don't know why you guys enjoyed reading Prisoner of Az. the most. And smae with HBP. I think thiswas the worst out of all the books. Short, skippy, and nothing eventful happns in teh book until the end. I enjoyed GOF the most. And Order of the Phoenix was just a bad time for Harry and teh rest...

I have to say the third (Prisoner of Azkaban) was the best. It was simply perfect in all aspect in my opinion. Not too long, not too short, and a good plot. In terms of my top 3, they are:
1. Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Order of the Phoenix
3. Half-Blood Prince

01-21-2006, 06:24 AM
I have to say that the fourth one was the best one, it feelt like it was a change in the book, like voldemort wasn't the only important thing in the book. Still the fifth one was also great, it was abit slow in the start and stuff but you found out alot and the book gone somewhere and yeah the end was just amazingly good!
well yeah all books are great imo but those to are the best

01-22-2006, 05:15 AM
My favourite would have to be the Prisoner of Azkaban though, I hated the movie...so many details were missing and I found myself rather bored. But then again, in my opinion, books are generally better when they stay as books and aren't turned into movies. Sure some movies turn out good but there are always those that don't.
i love number four and three :nuts

I go through stages. PoA was my favorite for the longest time (1999-2003 or so) but now I am infactuated with Order of the Phoenix (produced the most theories, was book just out at height of my obsession). My favorite climax is the turning point in GoF - but the rest of the book just didn't live up to that ending. HBP still hasn't really set in yet and I'm still weirdly enough 6 months later kinda in too much of a shock from it to REALLY analyze it yet.

Still so pissed that they excluded one of the 'Greatest Quiddith Matches of All Time' out of the the movie, banshee mascots' & all. My friends' & i almost went bloody 'Hulk' when we saw that sh*t!!!

I have to say Goblet of Fire is my favorite book. The whole Tri-Wizard Tournament thing was pretty damn cool, and when I saw the movie, it -kinda- killed the book a little bit, but it was still nice to see it being acted out with all the special effects and stuff. And no, I'm not a PotterNerd. I used to be when I was reading all the books. >_>
I'm not a big fan of HP, but I've read it (except the last book - no time for reading it now. I'll wait till summer holidays start :)). Anyway, I like Prisoner of Azkaban.

The prisoner of Azkaban
I actually liked how the book didn't focus on Voldemort for once, but on the others that were involved in the tragedy. And it also introduced Sirius Black <3. This book was about friendship, betrayal and vengeance, not the usual "Voldemort tries to kill harry in some impossible magical way" like the first two.

Prizoner of Azkaban, definately. The werewolf/criminal is really a good guy thing seemed so huge when it first came out, I just ate it up XD The fourth book was a huge let down after that, especially since she'd waited too long to publish it, and the excitement kind of died down...

To me the 3rd book was the best. It just had something in it that really interested me. I'v read that book at least 9 times! (Yes, as you can tell, I am a bookworm ^_^). I think it was because it introduced two whole new characters that will continue to be used in the books (at least Lupin will). This was also about the first time they got into depth about Harry's parents when they were younger.

Ummm... Sorry to burst your bubble, but nine times isn't all that much. I have read each book upto the GoF atleast twenty times, be it in Dutch or English, OotP around ten times (which, incidentally, is my favourite of the series so far) and HBP around six times.

I like the half blood prince.
It was cool to know about the life of voldemort.
Order of teh Phoenix was good, because...well Harry potter was Biyotching like crazy, which was kinda funny, but kinda made me pissed off at him.
I cried though, at the end. Well...kinda, since my friends ruined the ending for me.
The Half-blood prince was kinda obvious on who's gonna die near the end. x_X which my friends kinda...ruined for me too. GAH.

i'd have to say the 3rd and 4th and 1st were my favourites.
3rd because it had alot on family and didn't have a lot of voldemort.
4th because it was so action packed, and it had so much stuff going on i really liked that one.
and the 1st because it what drew me in. that first book really just has a... should i say very innocent feel to it. like when you read it, it feels like eating champorado that was cooked by your grandma (filipino thing). or like eating cookies with warm milk.

The Prisoner of Azkaban. It introduced some fun characters (Black, Lupin) and to me it had the best plot twist of them all. It was the ideal length, thorough, but not ponderous and perfectly balanced drama and action with humour. I haven't enjoyed the following books nearly as much (though Goblet of Fire came close)

The thing is, with the HP films, stand-alone they aren't bad, but they leave out and add in so many things. The worst so far, IMO, has been the Prisoner of Azkaban movie, that was just wrong in so many levels. I enjoyed some of the particular scenes in Goblet of Fire, such as the dance-lesson, but the Quidditch World Cub, the three tasks and the fact that Bagman was not included irked me to no end.
As for the sixth being just like fanfiction, would this be because of the romance, or?
hyo–shin
07-30-2006, 07:17 PM
what I liked about the movies was the typical british flair. the story was flawed and partly futile for those who haven't read the book.
as for the sixth: no, not just the romance. imo the authors writing style wasn't the same as in her previous books. some would argue that the sixth part is just preparation for the last one, but come on. harry potter simply got too big.

But really, I just don't think the other books are as well-written....
The second book was terrible. It was almost like a filler episode in anime...it was like, before we get to the important stuff, let's write a filler story of what happened in his second year. And then to disguise it as a filler book, she threw in a few tiny facts that will show up again in later books so die-hard fans can be like, "OMG TEH SNAKE REMEMBER PAGE 201 IN THE SECOND PARAGRAPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED?"
*ahem*....I'm done. Harry Potter is over-discussed to death. It's really not that great of a story....

Prisoner of Azkaban wins hands down. No contest. The first two were pretty good and it peaked for the third book. But after that, the story kind of went downwards and began to get worse and worse. The 7th book better be good to make up for the lack of "goodness" in the most recent 3 books.

I think that the sixth one was the best. Harry has gotten his last task in destroying Voldemort once and for all. And he set to it. Also, even though it was not a good thing, I liked the ending...

Prisoner of Azkaban; just because it held a much more fulfilling plot.

the goblet of fire was the first and best. chamber of secrets was second best. I have only read the first part of POA and it was good, but that was my favourite film.
