Sakata Gintoki is a samurai living in an era when samurai are no longer needed. To add to his troubles, oppressive aliens have moved in. Gintoki lives with Kagura and Shinpachi, taking on odd jobs to make the world a better place... and to pay their rent.


Mainly a series of episodic stories, Gintama tells the story of a group of freelancers living off the generosity of an old and cranky shop owner. Seeing as they have significant difficulty paying their rent, they go around in futuristic Edo trying to make some spare change. The leader of the gang is Gintoki, an unruly swordsman with a natural perm who lives life following his own rules. Gintama is being serialized in Weekly Jump, and is rather popular. Fans of shounen, as long as they’re not looking for a deep plot, will likely enjoy this action/comedy manga.

Okay, I am not really sure how popular this manga is amoung the fellow forum members, but I for one really enjoy it! If anyone else loves this series feel free to sign up here!

Im definetly in I love this series! Its for sure an underated gem of the Shonen jump world.

They are starting an snime of the series in april and there will be a special of it on this years jump festa tour thingy, so hopefully the anime will bring in a new wave of fans and the manga will start to get scanlated by a different group.

Katsura's seiyuu plays Gaara too. xD I think that's the only role of his I don't love.

My favorite character. I love the guys of the shinsengumi but my favorite character would have to be gintoki. He's the coolest main character ive ever seen in a anime. He's got some of the greatest quotes. I just love gintoki, he's so funny. Of course ill bet alot of people love gintoki. Im trying to think what other characters i really like. Well one of the great things about this anime is that alot of characters are extremely funny so i love alot of them.

Gintoki - "Do you want me to tell you the 3 types of people i hate, First! Girls who fool around during preparations for a school festival! Second! Foolish boys who tag along with them, unnecessarily aroused! Third! Teachers who just go along with it, smiling serenely!"

I'm not sure anymore. Either Katsura or Takasugi, even though the latter has only been in one episode so far.

I love the Shisengumi, but I just adore the four former... er, whatever they were called. >_< They intrigue me, because they all started off in the same place, and now they're all so very different: a lazy bum (more or less), a rebel leader, a destruction happy criminal, and a ship loving businessman.

Gintoki is the first main character in a shounen that I've ever really, truly appreciated and liked. I think it's because he lacks the typical shounen hero drive towards some sort of grand dream... he's just lazy, unmotivated, and wonderful in every way.

Well i finished episode 31 and 32 and i gotta say those were EXTREMELY full of win. I mean episode 31
Was way cool and very funny(It's amazing how he mixes both in so well Comedy+Kinda Serious Episode=Win(period its just win) and the way it ended made me think "Whoa is gintama entering like a new arc or something". Its the first time gintama has ever made me wanna watch another episode to have to find out at that moment(was driving me crazy).
Then episode 32
Was also very good and picked up where episode 31 left off, although i didnt think it would come back so soon(it seemed like a cool idea for a bit).

They were both excellent episodes and definately keep up with gintamas regular full or win-ness(haha). Almost caught up to you guys now.

I´ve been thinking in make a sig with motives to watch Gintama and join the FC. I thought in 2 ways:
1. make 10-15 motives of why you must be the pure win in form of Gintama.
2. put in the sig a photo of all the main characters (and they´re more of 15 I think, lol) and each one of them says why shall you watch Gintama.

In the case 2 I´ve already thought in a little phrases:
-Hattori Zenzo: Because life is love, and you´ll love this anime in the same mode I love Jump.
-Hasegawa: Because if you don´t watch Gintama, you´ll be a loser. A Madao, like me.
-Shimura Tae: Because if you don´t watch Gintama, I´m going to kill you :nod
-Sadaharu: Wof!
-Sakamoto Tatsuma: Haha! Because this anime is fun, and it will make funnier your life, haha!
