Hmmm i dont know whether there is a thread about this and if it should be placed here...

Here's what i've been thinking:

The letter D comes often in the manga:
Monkey D. Luffy
Portgas D. Ace
Gold D. Roger
...

And now when i was watching the anime, i watched the episode where luffy fought against aoikoji...

The admiral mentioned about luffy's grand father...and luffy started to sweat...
Im wondering who luffy's granpa is really
and also if everyone in the family is pirate...
So whats ur opinion about this?

Something is bugging me there...
Aokiji said that he dealt with luffy's grand father right?
But aokiji himself doesnt look that old...
So how come?
it would mean that:
1. Luffy's grandpa was pirate till old age
2. He had powers enough to give a marine admiral trouble

well his grandfather is alive since luffy appears to have "afraid" of him

so his grandfather for example can have like 58 years and aokiji have 40 years and they both fought in the past like 10 years ago or something

I still think it's Gold Rogers. Aojiki doesn't look that old but if he's one of the top 3 of the marines he could easily be around 45 or more.

And who can give such trouble to that kind or marines besides the pirate king himself? I dunno but the thing about "dream or destiny" that appeared on ep 45 of the anime and don't remember it on the manga is a foreshadowing about it.

Raptor, your sig and avatar gave me the proof. Aokiji was around when nico Robin was, which means he's been around for at least 20 years. Definatly could still be Gol d. Roger, but i personally hope that luffy's grandfather is not gol d. Roger.

^ I guess Ace and Luffy could be just half brothers. Alot of half brothers call eachother brother especially when they come from small families. Plus itd explain Ace's absence in Romance Dawn.

Doesn't seem like it's the case. Shanks seems like a very happy and kind guy so i don't see the problem about befriending Luffy even if he's just a kid.

his family is full of pirates
the way everyone reacts when they see him (says they remind him of Roger)
Has his dream of becoming king of the pirates and becoming like him
Same personality (Guess that doesnt matter)

Then there's the fact that they all seem to be exceptionally strong. Luffy is quite strong. Ace is one of the strongest pirates as he's just under Whitebeard, the man who tied with Gol. D Roger. Gol D. Roger well... he was the pirate king. Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teach) was nominated to be a Shichibukai, and his underlings went unnoticed in a room of 3 Shichibukai and a the top 2 ranking Marines, then there's the fact that Ace is forced to chase after him, but that may possibly be due to "family" reasons.

I think the reason luffy was sweating was because everyone was behind him, and he didn't want them to know that gold roger is his grandfather...also maybe to make everyone keep guessing a little longer...you know to keep the hint and tease going along untill the end of one piece

I really think it's gold D roger is his grandfather...what convinced me the most is when buggy had him in the stocks and he smiled excactly the same as roger- definitly close related.....Also the fact that everyopne who has met roger and has noticed a resembelence in luffy to him

(and also i read that pilot manga..and it made no sense to the actual storyline, so i don't think it can be accurate about luffys grandfather in anyway)

I know he's a new character but we're forgetting Haguwa-ru D. Sauro. Oh man, everything Robin said earlier about Luffy and the "D's" makes so much sense now. I really think she didn't mean Roger at all but Sauro instead. And same with Aokiji's comment as well. I mean, Robin, Haguwa-ru D. Sauro, and Aokiji are all in this current flashback. Nothing has really happened yet but in the next couple chapters, big things are gonna happen I'm sure of it.
