Wow, that´s like the complete opposite of what I read when I was a kid. Up in our cabin in the mountains there were this comic where the Flash beats Superman by a nose in a foot race.

That cover is from before Crisis on Infinite Earths, when the original Flash (well, actually the second Flash), Barry Allen, died and a lot of continuity got messed with. Since then, Superman has been de-powered from nigh-infinite planet-juggling, time-traveling, heaven-breaking-into power to something more modest and Wally West has become the fastest character in DC (with a couple of cosmic exceptions).

I was always under the impression that the Flash moves faster on land, but Superman can surpass Flash in flight...

superman does travel faster in air than on land... his maxspeed (flight) is generally agreed to be 99% of lightspeed.

flash is faster than lightspeed.

My understanding is that they are essentially as fast as long as they are actually travelling slower than lightspeed (once you get past lightspeed Flash enters the speed Force and it's unclear whether or not he can be said to be "moving" in the conventional sense) Flash can use a whole bunch of speed-related tricks that Supes cannot though.

I can understand why this question is asked over and over again on just about every site that I visit. The misconception to everything involving Superman and Flash, is that up to date, their have been three Flashes. The Flash that Superman raced (and beat) was Barry Allen who's dead by the way in the present DC timeline. The present Flash is Wally West and Wally would smash Supes in a race.

Wally was the first Flash to discover a little something called the speed force.

Yeah, that episode was pretty awesome. Especially at the end when he challenges Clark to a race and toys with him for a bit before leaving him in the dust. :P

^ Thats right- it was Bart Allen, not Wally, Jay or Barry (All of whom are faster then Kid flash anyway :P)

IMO Flash ftw- he is the fastest man alive for a reason- Speedforce means he has 'infinite' speed- he can go as fast as he wants to :tem (And its a good plot device also)
