I read this book a while ago and thought saw that this part of the fourm is kinda bare so I thought I'd put up a classic. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. This is one of the scariest books I've ever read. It isn't suppose to be it's just that it hits so close to home. When you read this book you'll see life ending up like this. With the breakdown of humans to the drug Soma, you can't help but see the world making a turn in this direction. I'll give you a very brief summary. You people being born in certain catigories. Alphas, the highest order, the Deltas, kinda like middle management. Then you have the Gammas or the working class. No one is born anymore, they are created in test tubs. I don't want to spoil anything cause it is a really good book. I'll leave you with this. In the future world where everything is perfect, the savage is the most enduring character. He's probably one of the most profound characters I've ever read.

I didn't find the book too interesting, sure its a possibility, but I doubt people would let it happen. Why? Simply because people in power enjoy it, but having power over mindless idiots isnt fun, its like having power over an ant colony.

This book was billiant! It's easy to see why it's a classic.
I read it two years ago so my memory isn't too fresh, but it was a page-turner. The idea was both logical, probable, and terrifying. A very good read.

P.S. Thanks for making a post about a "classic"! They're rather underappreciated. Last year I read Moby Dick and have yet to find somebody to discuss it with because nobody can seem to get past the dull writing style ^_^ But really, the themes are very interesting...

It's a good novel, definitely worth readying. I really enjoyed his Huxley highlights the fact that notions of normality are completely based around your up-bringing, (trying to remember the exact parts) with pregnancy being a rude/filthy thought.

Bit of a gloomy read with the ending considered but entertaining nonetheless.

Are you trying to imply the majority of people aren't already mindless idiots?

I loved this book, its definantly one of my faverites. I read it twice, once in sixth grade and again this summer, and throughly enjoyed it both times. I love the writing style and how effectively he discribes every aspect of the society to the reader. The ending was great as well.

lalalalalalaal -covers ears- I CANT HEAR YOU

I just started reading it for English today. One thing I will say is Huxley would have had a field day if genetic engineering was available to write about when he made the book

Excellent book, I have complaints about it being boring and the story being ignored for the sake of the concepts, but that never really happened. He maintained a connection and empathy with them. Awesome stuff.
