I haven't really cosplayed from Naruto yet, but I don't know, maybe with a little work I could pass as a good Orochimaru. Well, save for the fact that I've had my hair cut off and it's like...a quarter of an inch long now.

I have bough fabric and stuff, but I havn't started sewing. I can't sew but I'm sure my dear mom help out... and dad will help me doing the fore head protector (i know you can buy it but I want to try doing one myself)
But I will start this weekend... and the one I am going to cosplay as is... Gaara! My sisters will cosplay as Kankurou & Temari so I post a pic on all of us when the costumes are finished ^^ If this thread is still here of course... but we will hurry!

I don't know yet were we will do the cosplay but there will be some anime-cons in sweden next summer... I hope... O_o

TrendyNinja, Cosplay is short for "Costume play", basically dressing up as any character, usually from an Anime or a video game, but not exclusive to those :)
I haven't cosplayed, but if I ever did I'd make a rad cool Tsunade, I even have the attitude and drinking/gambling problem to go with it.

You can make an agreement with your mother that you do the most work on the costume but she helps you. Working together is good.

Short Sleeve black t-shirt and bringing the sleeves up a bit
Fishnet Shirt altering it to short sleeve
Black pants with big pocket and "capri-like" drawstring
Ace Bandages
Flip-flop ninja shoes
White cloth for cape
Red cloth around gourd
Custum made belt type thing
Gourd made of styrofoam, rolled in fiberglas ressin, paints baige, and hand painted MWMs and WMWs. yup yup.. gonna be awesome.. ill post pics when im done

Is that a Plastic or metal Forehead protector? That just looks too painful to be metal. The Zabuza costume isnt too bad. The sword is kinda cool. Im building a Anbu Costume! Muwahahah. When I have that put together (probly late november early december) I will post pictures of me in my Anbu Gear.

My headband was made of aluminium, and custom made, beats the heck out of buying an official one, besides, mine had to be black. Good luck on your ANBU costume.

I ordered a Metal one that is custome made, Although I stuck with the blue. The only thing im having a hard time getting for the anbu costume is the Bloody mask. I cant see paying 80 dollars on EBay for the mask. (I stoped my max bid at 40 dollars *Sigh*)

I would love to try and make my own mask, problem being I have little to no time aside from work. I work 4 days a week sleep most of friday and usually work overtime. Making a mask would be Extremely difficult (and im a perfectionist) so I know I would do horribly. If I could find a simular mask I would paint my own pattern on to it seeing as I dont want to be one of the already established anbu I want to be a Unique anbu. If anyone knows were I can buy an Anbu mask (aside from EBay) let me know!

Today I started on my Gaara costume! Well, started isn't the right word... but something like that O_o

But I happened to get a Shino-jacket some days ago (I'm lucky! Mom gave it to me, it isn't exactly a Shino jacket but close enogh!), and I had a pair of sunglasses and a blue headband (but I don't have any fore head protector >_<) so I did some quick Shino cosplaying... I post some pics tomorrow ^^
But my hair is to long and I havn't any good stuff to fix it like Shino's... -_- But it isn't real cosplaying so it doesn't matter...

My youngest sister made a very good Moegi by the way.. .but I don't think she wants me to post a pic of her... but she really was cute and very much alike Moegi!

Todays Mission: Project Buy Crap for the gourd!!!
Today me and my cosplay friends are going to buy all the stuff I need for my gourd. I hope it doesnt cost too much :-/. Then my friend has to decide who hes going as. I want to make a smaller version of the gourd, because I don't want it to big... and my sisters (who will cosplay as Kankurou and Temari) will have smaller versions of Kankurou's doll and Temari's fan as well. We want to do or costumes a bit personal you see ^^

Use Paper mache for the gourd. Thats what the guy in that picture I posted did. It was a Paper mache gourd and it came out looking great. I would suggest going to your local hardware store (Maybe a lowes or Home Depot) By some Chicken wire and shape it into the gourd and just put the paper mache around it, thus making it EXTREMELY Light and not as fragile. Plus it will come out looking really good and easily paintable.

But the important thing with cosplaying is having fun ^^ And to dress like Gaara kind of make me excited in some way.. O_o

yea, i got mine from konohaimports.com what im gonna try to do is suspend the metal part and drape as much of the blue as possible. Then im gonna let that soak for however long. then take it out, and use a dropper to drop little ammounts around the side of the metal, as much as i need to, as long as it will take.. ill tell you how it turned out

Cosplay Lab (http://www.cosplaylab.com) is the place to go if you like this sorta thing. Many bad ones, but there are some really good ones that make it all worthwhile.

Most cosplays are pretty bad though, mostly because (like the other poster said), the cosplay is hastily thrown together or incompetently made, the colors are too bright, or the cosplayer doesn't have the body shape or facial features to pull it off. I've seen way too many seriously unfit girls and guys cosplaying sleek, thin characters like Spike, Faye, Hinata et.c. and that just looks plain gross, comprende? Know the limits of your physical shape, then you'll avoid looking bad =)

Yes, I was referring to that guy. It's a Gaara. The sashes and the attempt at having blackened eyes seal it. Also, you can't really tell, but he has the symbol for love on his forehead.

Has anyone noticed that certain ethnic/racial/age characteristics seem to fit different characters better--and that it would generally help if cosplayers took their own physical qualities into account when selecting a character to cosplay? Hair color for instance looks better the closer to a person's natural color it is. For an example of a characteristic, I would suggest that Naruto generally looks better when cosplayed by a natural blond with yellow highlights than when cosplayed by a natural dark-haired person with blond hair color everywhere..

As I look through the pictures, the main thing seems to be getting the face right and hair right. That's why I would like to commend whoever posted that lovely Sakura cosplay. Her face looks just about right for Sakura.

Granted, it was a very ghetto-type costume that I threw together at the con, but I still had fun hanging out with all the Naruto cos-players. They probably sell prop veins at Party City or something. Party City always has uber cool face prostetics. ^_^ This Halloween, I attatched this fake pair of sissors to my face and did the whole blood shibang; it was awesome. But yea--Party City can hook you up!

All you people complained that Naruto doesn't have a specific race and all that, but look at it. It might be in Japanese, but how many characters actually do resemble asians? That's the reason why most female cosplayers here chose to be Shizune/Haku/Tenten.

And since I'm Asian as well, I don't really look like any Naruto characters and the closest resemblance I could muster would be ... you guessed it, Haku or Shizune.

KnK, I don't think that's what we (speaking on your behalf Cruci, feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken in my assumptions) were implying (that most girls on NF are Asian).

I think Crucifixation wrote that observation in reference to her ethnicity (her location is Singapore, so I'm assuming she's Asian as that's what her post implied), and how it's tough as well for Asian people to cosplay Naruto characters as most of them don't look Asian. My response to her post was just agreeing with the irony she brought up :wink

The only gennin characters that don't look Asian are Naruto and Sakura. Everyone else seems racially acurate to me. Even Ino (my theory: She must have some bloodline-type thing going on)
