What makes you happy?

A 3AM thread for me, a different time for you. Anyhow, I thought it'd be interesting to hear other people articulate their personal views on what constitutes happiness to them. But why not, instead of simply just stating what makes you happy, elated, etc, use this thread to bloviate about the "why" of your happiness.

I'll start: Happiness is what I feel whenever I come home from college for breaks and whatnot, and am greeted at the front door by my Labrador & twin Corgis. There is almost nothing better to me than to be bludgeoned by a wagging tail of a friend (Humans need an expression to approximate the wagging of a tail in my opinion--a smile just doesn't quite match up).

Why am I happy? As Catullus said: "Happiness is a warm puppy."

A lot of simple things make me happy. Being alone and having free time to draw or read or do whatever I want. But what makes me happiest is just to be with a lot of my friends and family, without any problems, just all of us together having a good time. Also, whenever I can do something for someone, or when something I do makes someone else happy, it is a great feeling. So yeh, all of that stuff makes me exceedingly Happy :D

Freedom and anticipation makes me happiest. I like knowing on Friday afternoon that I don't have to do anything for the rest of the day, or tomorrow, or Sunday. I like not having worries. And not having things to worry you makes you happy, at least for me.

There are a lot of things that make me happy. I'll say my one thing that makes me happy and go. Talking with good friends or old friends. I only have two left standing (old friends), I don't always get to talk to them, but the few times we do talk is very comforting in some ways.

Heh, simple question, yet very hard to answer. Happiness comes in with many levels and aspects. I can say I always feel moderately happy. I have a family with parents & siblings, a home & a job. That should be something to be happy about. :amuse

Yet, the degree of happiness varies as it it compared in different situations. For example, I feel less happy to know that I can get a better job, or be in better health, etc. However, comparing to those who are less fortunate, I feel I'm happier, because I am in a better situation.

After thinking about it, whatever the situation might be, I'll only need 2 things to be happy: Health & family. :amuse

Traveling
Learning something really interesting.
Actually understanding something really interesting.

Finishing that big homework assignment. (the being done part, not actually doing it)
Getting good results from an experiment in the lab.
Cuddling up on the couch.
Music.
Long walks after dark.
Performing!
Realizing that I just might be able to accomplish my dreams after all.

Hmmm...My friends make me happy. And cartoons. And comic books (Asian and American). And children. Children make me amazingly happy.

The thing that makes me happiest is being with the family I babysit for. I love their kids to pieces, and I know they love me. Since I've started college I've been told by their parents repeatedly that they miss me. Even their ten-year-old, who is starting to go through puberty and is getting very teenager-ish, misses me. It's so nice. And over the past four years I've been half adopted into their family, and the parents are kind of like my parents.

I tell them everything, and they still love me. And I'm very untrustworthy, so every once in a while I go through this phase of depression where I somehow convince myself that they don't love me anymore and they put up with me and continue to reassure me that I am loved.

So yeah...that's what makes me happy.
