What an awsome episode!

Ichigo just about completes his bankai powerup by the end of the first half, and the episode ends at the point where he stabs Byakuya after deflecting his Senbonzakura petals. Ichigo himself looks awsome animated in his bankai form... it really shows off his speed. The transformation itself wasn't quite as dramatic as I thought it would be, but there are a few flashbacks thrown in there, and also some stuff that wasn't in the manga.

Judging by the preview for the next ep, it looks like the fight could come to an end.

Wow.

I gotta say that was total dissapointment. First off, the art was pretty bleh at parts, definitly not one of the better drawn Bleach episodes, and it didn't help that 13 minutes of the episode was total filler or flashbacks, and that the rest was completely drawn out with majority of the scenes having no good music.

I thought the anime also did badly with handling my favorite quote in all of Bleach. It was so rushed...one of those lines where you know the subtitles are going to go by really fast. -_-

Only good part was the last 3 minutes or so. Though, I thought they did a good job with the speed Tensa Zangetsu gives Ichigo, I just can't help but feel the anime is downgrading Byakuya.

Maybe I came into this expecting too much, but it seems this battle won't live up to the manga counterpart as my favorite fight in all of Bleach.

I'm personally not enjoying this as much as I want to.

I have to agree. Byakuya's bankai was portrayed beatifully, but Ichigo's animated movements weren't really that special.

The only movement that looked good, was when Ichigo was circling Byakuya. All his other movements looked disappointing. I was especially expecting better animation when ichigo deflected Byakuya's bankai with his sword, but i was really dissapointed there.

.... Some parts of the episodes just had me annoyed... I don't mind scene switching and all .... but... there was a bit too much... and most of all... they added some damn "OMG Ichigo is so powerful moments!" which never occured in the manga... it also kind of contradicts Byakuya's initial reaction of his bankai not being much... but I guess people hundreds of meters away have better sense than him. There's also the fact that added him shielding himself with his own bankai against Ichigo's bankai charge... which once again... was another stupid "OMG the main character is so powerful!!!" addition...... other than that, I guess Ichigo running circles around Byakuya and swatting his flower petals (which I noticed was silver in the manga when checking to confirm if the above additions I noticed were really in the manga or not).

Oh well.:P It was a fun and exciting episode.:D It really did seem like a fight between Gaara and Lee, but... the Gaara vs. Lee fight was still better.:amuse The animation in this episode was okay, but not exactly the best. It was still exciting though.=D Not much to say besides that... except it would've been nice to see the reactions from everyone throughout ALL of the Seireitai. Ah, this fight was cool though.^_^ Little interruptions.=D Next week should be the finisher.

From some rumors I've heard spreading around, I hear the anime is planning on stopping after this arc. It's gonna end on a good note since it's rapidly approaching the manga. I hear that they don't want to do fillers/filler arcs and they aren't planning on a long break and as such will stop after this arc. Have any of you heard anything of this?

Nope. Just what DB said. Although I've guessed that they'll probably stop and just release on OVAs or something. It would take too long to wait for there to be enough material to start a second run.

I bet they just end it. I don't even know if Bleach is popular enough for OVAs. It isn't even in the top 10 shows in Japan. It's usually somewhere in the top 20, though.

That's what I've been saying for a while... Bleach is now on far worse shape than Naruto, and they will do a year of fillers(20 from last season + 26 = 46... almost a year).

Anyway, back on topic, Im clearly getting dissapointed each episode with Bleach... sure this is the most expected fight in the series but let me get this out of my system


-Art was mediocre, they should've gotten the guy art team for this one... Byakuya just doesnt evoke that feeling he had, just look at the flashback to quickly notice the difference.

-the useless sidekicks's humor was just off, really it ruined the mood the episode had going(Bleach's humor is great, but it failed big time this episode)... and why exactly are they going there? to see ichigo? certainly they cant do anything at this point, not with their current power level...

-...which brings me to this, they are just a step from putting power level with numbers.
They just... exploded a lot... upped the speed, upped the power, upped the speed again, oh and Ichigo just got to Byakuya's throath... and stepped back WTF? I forgot, the have to power up again.

-What was that with the constant full name calling? Byakuya calling him Kozo and them saying his full name... unrealistic for his character. Ichigo also repeated Byakuya's full name, too over the top dramatic.

when the 2nd intro showed up, I was so into Bleach, I was expecting all those fights... of course Ichigo's friends would surely live up to fight against those captain somehow... none of that ever came true... cast reduced to comedy relief.

now, its nothing more than a flashy series with decent art/animation, no substance at all... and please dont reply saying "oh but you just wait","naruto sucks now" or "kubo has a master plan", of course I can see why many like Bleach, but the writing really leaves(?) much to be desired.

well that was immensely enjoyable :D I thought it was all pretty well done, especially Ichigo blocking all of Byakuya's blades, that was awesome. They got his movements looking very nice as well. Byakuya's ban kai looked great especially now we get to see him using it in a more complex manner compared to the Renji fight. The artwork could have been better but hey.

ahhh now I want to watch 59 :P

Lol was it jus me or was that episode rock lee vs Gaara with swords and pink sand lol!!!
I thought it was really good but the similarity between that ep an the naruto one (ep 49 or something i think) was too close. First ichigo ran straight towards him dodging then did the circling him shouting out 'oh look i can go faster want me to go faster!?!' an even the way he blocked the attack then stabbed byakuya was similar to how rock lee jumped into the sand an then punched gaara in the face...

But yeah bleach is great i felt a lil let down by the ep cos i was really looking forward to it but apart from obvious plagurism i think on its own it is a great ep, an yeah agreein with above posts, the reference to ichigos friends goin to see him cos they are his friends was lame an pointless. They are soo weak they will probs jus fall of the cliff/rock cos of all the reiatsu lol.

Wekipea (sp) was wrong, just a rumor of the 50ish episodes. Take anything fm that site with a grain of salt.

The filler rumor is new, fired off by DB from the beginning of the Ep 58 sub claiming a 22 "Naruto" like filler~arc.

Watched it three times so far. No spoilers, but man that big boobed baby can run... The animation is "draft mode" and the plot thickens. But there's alot of stuff hang'n so a few fillers to show the other battles, the attainment of Bankai, etc would be just fine.

Anyways just a some little tidbits. In Dattebayo's translation when Hitsuguya/Matsomoto reached the Center 46 they had Hitsuguya request permission to enter Center 40 which is wrong. Anyways okay episode despite some filler stuff. They do a pretty good job adding in filler material when it is not a filler episode.

News on Bleach episodes: Bleach is only slated at this moment to have 70 episodes. I believe I gave that information on another thread here. That does not mean it is not going to end at 70. Cause at the moment there is no word on it ending. 70 is just the number of episodes the Studio signed up to do. In most cases I hope it gets continued but just to let you know.

Another thing as some people already found out there will no Bleach the week after next.

...ok....Those two battles should not be compared...at all. Lookin at points such as the speeds and sand movements, replaced by blossoms, doesn't mean shit. Get over it. In all, the Rock Lee v.s Gaara battle is way ahead of this Bleach's animation and choriography [sp].

Oh, I sadly have to highly disagree.

The animation was not that great this episode; I mean, just compare it to 44 and 39; not even close to many of the earlier episodes.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the episode - but it's just that the anime has not lived up to the manga's awesomeness as my favorite fight in all of Bleach. It was kinda dissapointing that the art was subpar this episode for Bleach standards.

And once again, it didn't help the episode that 10 minutes of it was filler and flashbacks and that all canon scenes were extended and drawn out.

It could've been soooo much better.

Dude That Bankai is kick butt. They couldn't have picked a better power. What I love is even after Ichigo released his bankai, Byakuya still wouldn't believe it. And the coat is a nice touch.

Good episode though I certainly think it isn't the best battle that we have seen in the series. The animation and art were kind of crap if you ask me, both were much better in the previous episodes. I hope the next episode will be at same animation lvl again.

Ichigos bankai looks awesome, and I like how Ichigo looks more like zangetsu with his clothing :cool I wonder if his bankai has anymore special abilities then just increased speed and strength, maybe that chain has something to do with a special ability or it's just something from his past. At first the chain reminded me of the chain between a persons soul and his body, future will probably tell what it is...

They animated Ichigo and Byakuya's Ban Kai perfectly IMO. You really had a solid sense of Ichigo's speed and the overwhelming-ness of Byakuya's rose pedals(though I thought they were white, but eh)

Anyway, though the anime has consistently failed to match the quality of the manga, this episode could of done better. Ichigo going ban kai is an enormus deal in the series. The entire chapter was in color in the manga. The anime lessened the moment with bad music selections. I mean they actually had good animation this time! But they screwed up with the music...

This isn't to say that it was BAD, I was just expecting better.

Ahem! I've been aying it ever since episode 55 and if finally happen in 58... Ichigo.

ep 55 with rukia about to get executed and ichigo coming in has been way better then these fights in the last 3 eps- ichigo vs byakuya was cool, but ichigo entrance to the scene was cooler.

The other things going on in the epsiode didn't appeal to me at all. His friends.. omg just kill them off already and the cut aways to hitsugya and his vice captain.... ok we get the picture something messed up is going on.. Blargh and the flashbacks.. um what was the purpose, they didn't touch me at all like naruto ones... they were simply annoying.

the whole hitsugya icident with hanamori and zaraki vs ichigo were the best sub saga so far. Oh wait and kon of course.. he is GOD AND MASTERMINDING the entire story.. he will very soon blow up soul society then take over the world... Omg please don't ban me for this manga spoiler...:sad

Ichigo's new cloak looks cool, similar to the one Zangetsu is wearing but less shabby :blink Since his clothes changed, are those a part of his bankai as well?
Anyway his bankai is the best part, that black sword looks awsome... Wonder if it's got any special powers, for example there's chain at the end of it and the technique is called "heavenly chains slice moon" at least DB translated it like that. Maybe it's something similar to Hitsugaya's sword.

Ok, I've watched 58 about fives time now. The episode was great (except the "friends" part, fastforward that part), however, is it me or was that the worst animation ever in bleach? They didn't spend any time grey scaling, just scrible filling the shadows (except the girl waking up in the room, it had to be done by another team of artist). The more I watched the episode, the more it stood out. The hands were terrible, just look at Hitsugaya's hand on the door of area 40. Infact, look at all the hands and all the shadows under the chins in the neck area.

I guess I'll go back on some of the previous episodes and see if I'm just making it up.

All I know is that they really screwed up the look of the bankai. They animated it as if it was perfectly straight, when it really had this huge, badass curve.

Wat scribbles? If u are talkin about the straight diagonal lines under their chins, then they were followin how Kubo did them in the manga.

let's just say the scribbles are much more pronounced than in any previous episode. It started in 57 when the two guys played "rock/paper/scisors" Previous it had been there but not as pronounced. Plus many of the previous episodes had proper grey scale even with the 'scribbles' to soften the scenes.

But like I said initially, it's just me, but I noticed a decrease in the animation quality, imho.

the first time i watched it i thought the animation was a little bad, but some of the effects were awesome: Like Ichigo powering up to do bankai, also bunch of Ichigos running different direction circles around byakuya, Sakura zenbon everywhere and moving around nicely. I think it's just cause Ichigo is so fast it seems there's no animation, but there's nothing between to animate. He's just disappearing and reappearing.

Oh, I concur narutosimpson, the episode was top notch enjoyment for me too. And my observation wasn't to take away how much I enjoy Bleach. It's just something I noticed that seemed very pronounced in this episode. Over all one of the most enjoyable episodes to date.

The only animation difference there seemed to be to me was when Ichigo and Byakuya actually crossed swords and stood face-to-face. Ichigo just looked kind of . . . . . different in that profile shot.

It may look curved at that speed, but when he was standing still it looked very straight. Its a small thing, but it disappointed me a little.

Episode 58 was awesome. I loved the part where it looked like Ichigo was trapped and caught by Byakuya's bankai only to attack and defeat every single attack with his sword extremely quickly in the air. That was awesome.

Unfortunately I think i'll have to reflect the opinions of TenshiOni, Megaharrison, aburo yin and others. This episode was a disappointment (just like almost every other major moment in Bleach that had the potential to be awesome when animated).

It seems that Bleach doesn't get anywhere near the budget it deserves so we never seem to get an episode that looks like Rock Lee vs Gaara (48 was it?) in Naruto. This of all episodes would have looks awesome if animated to that standard but it was instead, bland, as usual.

Music choices that don't increase the tension of the battles aren't helping either.

I find it odd because it seems as if the fight with Mayuri was given greater care than this one (honestly this is a more important episode).

I must agree with you there. I really don't like their choice of music for certain scenes. It doesn't feel like it reflects the mood that is going on. One music choice I particularly don't like is the one they played in this episode and the one where Ichigo stops the Soukyo. It feels like some sort of calm music when the atmosphere doesn't feel calm. In this episode, they played it right as Ichigo was about to do bankai and I really didn't like that music choice for that scene.

My main complaint is that Ichigo's coat seemed much stiller than someone moving at his speed should have. I mean, it must be hard as hell to animate, but that would have made his speed seem so much cooler. Overall, a very good episode, couldn't really ask for more but I will anyways.

Hero and Baddie trade blows and are even. Baddie uses an attack which is completely brushed aside. Baddie goes all out and Hero is hit while Hero still has yet to show his true strength. Hero uses that and owns Baddie.

Well it's the same if you change Gaara and Lee's places, and completely remove the first part. And assume Gaara using his sand gourd is showing his true strength. The fight is pretty much different with the exception of how the anime animated Byakuya's bankai, which resembles Gaara's sand in how they move alone and nothing more and Ichigo having extreme speed, but of course using his sword to attack while Lee relies purely on taijutsu.

But like music notes, they can be blended in a new fashion.

Ichigo must have some kind of healing factor like wolverine. :D He some how survived one shikai attack and loosing about a gallon of blood. that's cool, I was just like "oh well, i guess they are gonna climb the steps till the end of the arc" which could still happen, but i wouldn't know it in advance...

i think the battle looks like gaara/lee, but it's different in that gaara didn't control his sand in ep 48 like the sakura blades, also the sand was an absolute defense, the blades aren't, First thing ichigo could have done was slash byukuya's throat. And ichigo is moving so much faster than lee, it gives the impression he is everywhere at once, like when he circled byukuya. Those are the differences I saw, to beat a dead horse.
