So what is the source to true knowledge? What is true knowledge?
Some people say it comes from our thoughts, other we get knowledge throught from what we see, hear, feel, smell and etc.

True knowledge is someone who is wise.
Who is wise? How do we know that person is wise? What determines that the things that person is saying are wisdom?
What is wisdom? :oh
Always Follow A Wiseman's Teachings But Never A Wiseman, Becuase A Wiseman Is Still Just A Man, A Man Who Can Become Tainted And Corrupt.
Well...
"Always Follow A Wiseman's Teachings But Never A Wiseman"
Why do we have to follow? Cant we humans learn the things that wiseman learn by ourselfs?
"Becuase A Wiseman Is Still Just A Man, A Man Who Can Become Tainted And Corrupt."
Yes. Can became tainted and corrupt? Well yes, IMO power corrupts and power comes from wisdom. So:
wisdom -> power -> corruption
ps: nice quote ^^

Ok Good question about why cant normal people just learn the same things that wisemen have learned. Well if we did things like that there would be hardly any progress in the human culture life as we know it would not exist.
We as humans build of those who came before us thats the only reason we have come so far as we have now.

consciousness is your thoughts, you seeing, hearing, feeling, memory.
True knowledge has a source you cannot find, it is the subconscious. There lies the processor(software) that processes the things that come from your hardware which is your eyes, memory, sense nerves. Then it goes to your monitor which is your consciousness. Someone that is wise does not try to find answers out of nothing, this is a bad habit. you know when you try to remember or understand and just when you give up you suddenly get the answer. Boom! first of all some are trying to look in their brain literly to find the answer, in reality they are contracting muscles. Someone that is wise won't have this bad habit of trying to find the answer, no the answer comes to him. He looks at the beginning the middle and finds the end. He looks at the factors before him and sees how they will behave. He tries to solve a question and memories, thoughts and the imagination helps him to get on the right path, then he gets his final thought, the answer. Everybody can become wise, they just have to let go of their habits. Then they will become wise, creative, loving and happy.

I think true knowledge is the abililty to let you understand & do whatever is needed in whatever situtation. But, being humans, we do not know everything & understand everything, so we are somewhat limited. A typical person can only know so much within a lifetime. But anything that we learned can be helpful to certain situation, because knowledge is power. :amuse

When making decisions, can one be correct, for the wrong reasons; or wrong, for the correct reasons? I think u can be called wise depending on what you choose in certain situation, explain a logical reason why you chose it over the other. So... what do you want to be in my question: the wrong or the correct one? I think no man knows the answers to all the questions, for example:
Why is the hair down there curly?
Is it because it's flattened by underwear or something, but if so, how come nudists still have curly hair down there? There are some things that can be explained but still, something contradicts it.
Like for another example, everyday, I found myself wondering what color the women's underpants are; the panties. Odds are they are primarily basic white cotton underpants. Maybe it's silk. Maybe it's a thong. Or something I don't even know about.
I'd call a person wise if he could answer the probability of what a certain women's panty color and material, maybe even size, the next day, or if she will even bother to wear one or not wear one.

I say true knowledge comes from the ability to inquire (ask questions). You see, if we don't ask a question, then nothing will be discovered or be ackknowledged as a part of our intellect. Who ever made this thread knew what they wanted to ask. Good job, I like this. Also, if we didn't question then this thread wouldn't have existed.:)

Ah, Jackal, amazing question.
What exactly is true knowledge? Well, I suppose this slightly relates with the quote:
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Now, I don't really mean that quote directly relates with the topic, just that it shares common ground. Knowledge can be perceived in many differents ways. It can be expressed through words, images or ideas. No one person can know everything, as that would be the same as being "perfect", when we know, there really is no such thing as everyone will differ in opinions.
The majority of the populus seems to believe that wisdom is in direct relation with age, experience and a level of enlightenment. Now, it's not what I believe, but an opinion nonetheless. My take on what true wisdom is; one indulges themself in every aspect of life: Religion, theories, technology, nature, history, astronomy, math, science, etc...
This list goes on and on, though I believe that'd be nearly impossible to obtain such information in one mind. Will it ever be achieved? No.
As we continue to learn, our mind reaches a limit. The brain stops producing brain cells which enable us to expand more and more, then, decandence is achieved. Our mind starts to slip and decay. All the while, the world and universe around us expands and changes on it's on accord. You see, there will be new things all the time, no one could possibly ever know everything.

wise= knowing/ choosing the right thing
smart= knowing/being able to process information
intelligent= beeing able to pocess information/information is knowledge.
it depends what you mean by those words. some people are called smart, but in fact just knows allot of things. he knows it because he has used his logic. A wiseman uses logic between facts and becomes wise. a intelligent processes knowledge.
we are not talking about how intelligent you were born that is another matter.
the people that are defined with those words have the same things in common but people use variations because of cultural usage of those words. if your old you are wise, if you know about life issues you are wise. if you go to harvard you are smart but beeing a loser with women makes you not wise, if you have a high IQ you are intelligent but keeping your rooms messy and dirty is beeing not-wise. someone that cleans after himself to keep things tidy is smart.

you are saying that knowledge is knowledge.
you have intelligence and a intelligent man.
An intelligent man has to know that the man that is in front of him is going to kill him or not. he needs to know his movingcapability. he needs to know that trees are hard. then he can use that memory to know something else. intelligence is just a culculator. he does a culculation like this: if this(knowledge) then that(knowledge). you define wisdom as knowledge but when you are choosing what knowledge applies to the situation you are using intelligence.

True knowledge doesn't exist if ignorance is bliss.
it depends on what you belvie in such as if you belive in that ignorance is bliss that means a wise person can live there live in happyness if u belive in it as nureshroom said
Experiencing bliss or happiness is actually a very subjective phenomenon. If you're ignorant, then you are oblivious of all the things that make an urbanite happy. On the same vein, the urbanite cannot impute his/her happy life to a Timbuktu villager: "you're not as happy as I am coz you weren't able to watch Harry Potter 4". Yup.. I guess that's it.
In the end, I say, ignorance does not hurt..(well, probably because you don't know that it was your ignorance that hurt you.lol)
True knowledge can only be gained in eternity. There exists no knowledge in its true and unadulterated form simply because we live in an unproven world..one question leads to the other and the process of inquiry, however systematic it is, becomes cyclic. Even mathematics (especially statistics->probablity) are grounded on axioms..take note, axioms. in ideological terms we can translate this word as dogma. Axioms are unproven expressions but nevertheless widely accepted. This does not, by any means, negate the importance and accuracy of mathematics. The point is that, it could be just wrong much like other earlier theories deemed to be true and were, at the turn of the century (relative to the theory's conception), disproven. Who knows?

I don't get it. Does true knowledge mean knowledge of all things or knowledge of what is real. If it is the first, yes it will take along time to know the dynamics of everything and knowing what is where will take almost infinity.
if it is the second then true knowledge is what you see clearly, what is real.

I am just toying with the idea of ignorance and knowlege. Of course we cannot tell which is better, which will lead to a happier life. We cannot go back to the garden of eden. Anyway, true knowledge for me is anything that is perceived by my five senses. As simple as that. Thus spake my pragmatic mind.
But if you want to converse with my philosphical mind, re-read my earlier post. I cannot find anything better to restate what i've already said. Meta-thinking is indeed difficult.

Noob's translation- True knowledge= Knowledge that is true.
I object.

Is one example of the correct-wrong reason and wrong=correct reason
something like "Kill him, or else everybody dies." Or something like negotiating with criminals to save other's life, because for all we know negotiating with criminals is wrong.
And by the way, you need to stop worrying what color our underpants are. There are many kinds of underpants out there. Even if you use the remaining time in your life, you will never find out the answer because everyday, there are new panties made; different styles, colors, material used, size, and etc.
Tomorrow I'll be wearing silky white, though.

knowledge that is true is between the actions. you see actions but those are relative. another person will see it different if one eye is born stupid. What you can say is true is the source of the action. with knowing this you know all you need to know to clasify the action.

Sometimes being not wise and knowlegeable rocks. But it is better to be wise to make correct decisions. How do you define a smart person from a stupid person? I mean, not all High-Grade achievers are smart, from my observation, most H-G achievers don't have common sense. Sometimes they can do complicated problems but tends to forget the simplest problems. I noticed it back when i was in college. Or is a smart person a person who couldn't be fooled easily? Like the businessmen. Not all business went to a fancy-schol just to put up a good business. They just worked hard and use their brain a lot to make their business proper.
Think about it. What is true knowledge?

The reason that not wise and knowledgable is regarded as better sometimes is because often people put standards upon themselfs that may not fit in the situation. Thus this person is blocking himself from education.

i am an epistemological and ontological dualist. to me, there are two types of real "things" - mathematical and physical. the physical we are part of and can change, but can't understand. while the mathematical is separate from us and fixed as is, but we can comprehend it. so comprehension = possibility for knowledge. hence we can only know math, and nothing physical.... everything we believe to know about the physical is only a "model" from math, which in reality never matches up perfectly to physical phenomena

The math does fit perfectly with physical phenomena. The problem is we can't observe every physical event for even the simplest action or force and thus our model will always have inaccuracies.

06-26-2008, 11:02 AM
True knowledge can be easily explained as omnipotence. But omnipotence contradicts itself, as to be omnipotent you have to see all shades of gray and not be bound by them, humans see things in black and white because each of us perceives reality differently. So to be omnipotent you have to not perceive reality at all but yet see all shades of gray and not be bound by them, you have to base your decisions on logical and illogical contradictions and the imposable. No matter how hard you try you can not leave your state of being fully but remain in it fully with a full understanding of contradictions and what would seem impossible. Thus humans can not achieve true knowledge through omnipotence, even though that is how we describe it, so truthfully true knowledge is a heightened mental capacity that requires you to exist and not at the same time, and thus it does not exist by our current capacity but might exist to something of higher ability.

True knowledge is knowing that it's a limit, you can't bypass because you can't know AND understand EVERYthing in the world, and beyond. To know everything would make you something 'godly' and no human possess the abilities of being a God.
True knowledge is facing knowledge with a serene state of mind and constantly finding out new discoveries, but not getting attached to them or claiming to think we know something for fact, but instead keep continuing to expand ourselves. It's when we claim to know something for indisputable fact that we let out ego get the best of us. Logic is just something human perceive. Just like when the people who tell me "I only see what I believe." Um okay... so are you saying that your eyes let you understand and perceive everything that the universe was, is and ever will be? It's important to not get too ahead of ourselves when trying to claim we know something for a fact.

knowledge is infinite, and i suppose their isn't much truth to it if even at all.
so in my opinion i guess true knowledge is wisdom. observing what is around you through out your life, thinking about it, and concluding.
i would guess this is why i am so stir crazy to get the fuck out of where I am, and go see and experience everything that I can. im some one that wants to know everything and knows nothing.
